APOBEC3 enzymes are key effectors of antiviral immunity that introduce mutations into viral genomes. We show that viral R-loops serve as preferred substrates for APOBEC3-mediated mutagenesis during herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) infection. APOBEC3 enzymes are recruited to viral R-loops, generating clustered C-to-T mutations in genes critical for viral assembly. Importantly, R-loops alone are not mutagenic, and APOBEC3 enzymes do not edit HSV-1 without an R-loop; mutagenesis occurs when R-loops and APOBEC3 enzymes interact. These findings identify endogenous R-loops formed during the HSV-1 life cycle as focal vulnerabilities and highlight R-loop-APOBEC3 coupling as a mechanism for antiviral mutagenesis.

The Appellate Division affirmed the denial of tenants' motion, seeking a declaration of a rent overcharge scheme. The motion, improperly brought under CPLR 906(1) and thus treated as one for summary judgment, was denied because tenants failed to provide all necessary documentary evidence, such as leases and underlying records for claimed improvements, to meet their prima facie burden. The court noted that while an attorney affirmation is permissible for admissible documents, personal knowledge is required for unrefutable facts. The court also clarified that post-2024 legislative amendments (L 2024, ch 95) eliminated the common law fraud standard and tenant affidavit requirement …

TP53 mutations are found in 10% to 15% of myeloid neoplasms and are associated with a dismal prognosis. Although hypomethylating agents (HMAs), such as decitabine, are active in TP53-mutated myeloid neoplasms (TP53-MN), mutation clearance is rarely complete and nearly all patients relapse. Molecular determinants of response to HMAs in TP53-MN are poorly understood. Here, we show that decitabine induces replicative stress with decreased replication fork progression, induction of single-strand DNA breaks, and activation of the ataxia telangiectasia mutated-Rad3-related (ATR) pathway. Resolution of decitabine-induced replication stress is impaired in TP53-mutated acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cells, representing a potential therapeutic vulnerability. Indeed, …
Resource-Aware Cooperative Perception For Autonomous Driving, Matthew Magee
Resource-Aware Cooperative Perception For Autonomous Driving, Matthew Magee
Theses
In recent years, many new vehicles equipped with autonomous driving capabilities have been deployed around the world, but they still have a number of failure cases. One proposed solution to improve performance in these scenarios is cooperative perception, a paradigm in which vehicles communicate with other vehicles and nearby sensors to collect additional perception information about the environment. Prior work has demonstrated that cooperative perception can be accomplished with the high accuracy and low latency needed for autonomous driving. However, state-of-the-art systems rely on unrealistic assumptions about the conditions of the network connections between participating nodes and the compute resources …

Advancing Hand Therapy Practice Through Specialized Clinical Reasoning And Patient Education, Candace Heinlein
Capstone Projects
This doctoral capstone experience (DCE) was completed at Corewell Health Grand Rapids Hospitals Hand Therapy Clinic and focused on two ACOTE concentration areas including advanced clinical practice skills and education. The experience combined hands-on clinical practice in a specialized outpatient hand therapy setting with the development of high-quality client education materials and home exercise programs (HEPs). Objectives were created to address identified needs through the creation of client education handouts, development of diagnosis-specific Medbridge HEP templates, and creation of training resources to improve therapist efficiency with Medbridge use. Outcomes of the project included improved access to evidence-based educational materials, reduced …

Feasibility Of Digital Environment In Al-Madinah Al-Munawaroh Schools And Teachers Attitudes Towards It, Khaled Muraya Alqahtani
University of Bisha Journal for Educational Sciences
This study aimed to identify the availability of a digital environment in Madinah schools and teachers’ attitudes towards it. The study employed a descriptive-analytical approach using a questionnaire, one of the most widespread and commonly used research tools across various scientific fields. It is more effective in terms of saving time and reducing costs, and it allows for data collection from a larger number of individuals compared to other methods. A simple random sampling of 213 male and female secondary school teachers in Madinah was selected to represent the study sample. The study’s findings indicate that the digital environment in …

University of Bisha Journal for Educational Sciences
This research aimed to identify the most common forms of bullying experienced by eighth-grade students, according to data from the TIMSS 2023, and those with the greatest impact on academic achievement, in Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Finland. The sample included all students who participated in the TIMSS 2023 study, totaling 15,667 students. The descriptive method, employing both causal-comparative and correlational approaches, was used to achieve the study’s objectives. The results showed that the most common form of bullying in Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Finland was “listening to hurtful things about one’s appearance,” with rates of 35.5%, 12.1%, and 24%, respectively. …

Performing Professional Persona On Whatsapp: Gendered Self-Presentation And Authority Negotiation Among Saudi Women At Work, Meshari Ali Al-Sairi
UB Journal for Humanities
Drawing on Goffman’s concept of persona as a strategic and situational performance, the study examines written responses elicited through guided workplace scenarios designed to simulate high-stakes professional interaction on WhatsApp. The study adopted a qualitative, interpretive, discourse-pragmatic research design. The sample of the study included 30 women and 10 men employed in academic or administrative roles at the University of Bisha, and data were collected through semi‑structured, DCT‑style guided written prompts tailored to WhatsApp communication. Findings outlined three recurring persona patterns in women’s responses which are not interpreted as individual communication styles, but as systematic and adaptive responses to the …

Demographic Characteristics Of Migrants To Khamis Mushait City, Hassan Abdullah Mari Alamri
UB Journal for Humanities
This study examines the demographic characteristics of migrants to Khamis Mushait City, to reveal their motives, and their relationship to their original homeland. The study relied on the field survey method using the sample method in data collection, and the descriptive analytical method based on the quantitative method, through the use of statistical methods (measures of central tendency, and Pearson correlation coefficient). The findings indicate that the majority of migrants are male with university-level education, and that more than half are between 25 and 65 years of age. The results further show that the most salient reasons for migration to …

Teachers’ Beliefs About Communicative Language Teaching (Clt) And The Implementation In Classroom Practices, Trifita Setyaningrum
Jurnal Pendidikan Humaniora
This study aims at investigating the match between beliefs and classroom practices about communicative language teaching (CLT). Survey design through questionnaire for professional teachers of English and guided interviews is employed in this study. The 25 questionnaire items revealed the teachers’ belief about CLT and the classroom practices based on its characteristics, i.e.: overall goals, relationship of form and function, fluency-accuracy, focus on real-world contexts, autonomy and stra- tegic involvement, teacher roles, and student roles. The data were gathered, reduced, grouped, and verified. The results showed that the highest discrepancy is on the aspect of fluency-accuracy.
