Schemas are a type of semantic knowledge that are formed from generalizations about the world. Schemas are essentially expectations about how we expect the world to be, and they are helpful for understanding and categorizing information we encounter. Prediction errors, which occur when our predictions are violated, are caused by events that are inconsistent with our schemas. Current findings on prediction error’s effects on memory are contradictory, with some studies stating that the presence of a prediction error enhances memory for a context, while other research disagrees. This thesis applies the priming theory of communications and examines its effectiveness in the political realm, specifically, within the digital strategies implemented throughout the 2024 presidential campaign of Donald J. Trump. It was asked to what extent Donald Trump’s digital political priming on social media influenced the most important issues to voters in the 2024 election. The use and impact of rhetoric, images, and partnerships were analyzed in this study to determine the extent to which Trump was able to influence the issues voters deemed as most important. Mental illness affects a substantial proportion of adults in the United States, yet psychiatric diagnosis remains subject to diagnostic variability. Single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) is a neuroimaging technique that measures cerebral blood flow and has been proposed as an adjunctive tool for psychiatric evaluation. Existing literature reports group-level perfusion patterns associated with certain psychiatric conditions, suggesting potential utility in diagnosing complex or treatment-resistant cases. However, critics of SPECT emphasize the absence of randomized controlled data demonstrating improved patient outcomes. Background: Hemorrhagic shock (HS) following traumatic injury is hallmarked by innate immune activation, hypercoagulability, and thromboinflammatory complications. To date, the direct link between HS, injury severity, and endothelial cell (EC) contributions to thromboinflammation remains poorly understood. The goals of this study were to determine the impact of injury severity and HS on endothelial-mediated thromboinflammation and examine whether these changes increase the propensity for thrombosis.

This study aims to test the effectiveness of Diamond™ Nucleic Acid Dye (DD) in an operational casework study. By sticking to the exterior of cellular material in damaged cells or by incorporation into nuclei in undamaged cells, trace DNA molecules are visualized through the fluorescence of DD. DD offers a possibility to more easily recover crucial trace DNA of evidentiary value by improved visualization of the DNA on surfaces. Recent progress in large language models has produced reasoning-oriented systems that allocate additional computation at inference time (e.g., deliberation, verification, and self-correction), raising the question of whether these gains can solve tasks requiring creative and lateral thinking. In this thesis, we study such capabilities using two popular word-association games—LinkedIn Pinpoint and New York Times (NYT) Connections—which require identifying non-obvious patterns or relationships. We first benchmark some light-weight open models and analyze their performance trends with respect to puzzle release dates and approximate model knowledge cutoffs to distinguish memorization effects from genuine inference. Its deadliness comes from a class of chemicals called amatoxins. These cyclic polypeptides (a, . and y) inhibit the function of RNA polymerase II which shuts down protein production in cells. Victims exhibit gastrointestinal issues followed by live failure, multiorgan failure, and eventually death if not treated. Forensic science increasingly relies on DNA evidence; however, traditional short tandem repeat (STR) analysis has limitations when applied to degraded samples, such as hairs in the exogen phase. This preliminary study investigates the recovery and prediction accuracy of IrisPlex single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) from exogen-stage human hair samples to determine how factors like hair color and shaft location influence SNP recovery and phenotypic eye color predictions. The analysis focuses on the IrisPlex SNPs rs12913832 (HERC2 gene) and rs1800407 (OCA2 gene), which are strongly associated with eye color variation. Evolving public discourse on rape and rape culture is reflected in contemporary cinema. This thesis analyzes Promising Young Woman (2020), Blink Twice (2024), and Women Talking (2022)—all directed by women—through the theoretical framework of the ethics of care, highlighting how these films expose the persistence of rape culture and the systemic failure of institutions to support victims of sexual violence. Drawing on scholarship about rape culture, this analysis shows how the rape myths and institutional gaslighting depicted in these films function to dismiss victims’ testimonies, mirroring broader patterns of invalidation. The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) exemplifies a society marked by recurring cycles of violence, rooted in colonial exploitation, authoritarian rule, and protracted conflict. These dynamics have fractured both social cohesion and ecclesial memory, particularly among marginalized groups such as the Banyamulenge, whose contested belonging reflects broader patterns of exclusion in the Great Lakes region.

Within this context, the Catholic Church—despite its moral authority—has oscillated between complicity and prophetic engagement. The leadership of Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya illustrates both the Church’s ambivalence and its potential as a mediator in processes of peace and reconciliation.

In treatment of emergent hypertension, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends both oral labetalol and nifedipine, with no preference shown between the two. These medications have different mechanisms of action. Studies have suggested that consideration of hemodynamic profile may be an effective way to determine medication, but have not considered the Rule of 55, a simple calculation to predict hemodynamic profile.

Goals: 1. Determine if tailoring the antihypertensive to patient’s hemodynamic profile is associated with better control of blood pressure. 2. Determine if the Rule of 55 is an accurate method to determine hemodynamic profile.

Research on NICU experiences largely focuses on majority-language families; non-English-speaking families are understudied (Cleveland, 2008). The Family Integrated Care model promotes parent-infant connection and shared decision-making to improve outcomes (Wreesmann et al., 2020). Language barriers impede parent-provider communication, increasing miscommunication and parental anxiety (Kynoe et al., 2020; Ardal et al., 2011). The purpose of this research is to explore communication experiences and barriers between English-speaking and bilingual NICU nurses and a Spanish-speaking NICU mother.

Around 40% of people with Parkinson’s Disease experience depression and anxiety (Zhao et al, 2025). Depression and Anxiety have been said to be localized to the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (Brunoni et al, 2016). Transcranial Direct current stimulation (tDCS) has been shown to modulate depression and anxiety by targeting the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (Sreeraj et al, 2023). It is beneficial due to its cost, portability, and simplicity of use. Thus we will be assessing the efficacy of tDCS in reducing depression and anxiety in individuals with Parkinson’s Disease.

Burn injury patients wear supportive orthoses made by heat-forming sheets of thermoplastic material (Figs. 1 & 2). Bacteria cause severe soft tissue infections in patients wearing contaminated orthoses. Thermoplastic medical devices can develop biofilms that include antibiotic-resistant (AR) bacteria, which significantly reduces the number of available treatment options. A biofilm is a community of microorganisms that share resources allowing them to exist in a nutrient-limited environment. Biofilm microbes secrete extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) that attaches them firmly to a substrate surface while protecting them from harmful substances, including antibiotics. Annual costs associated with low back pain total over 450 billion dollars in the US alone [2]. The flood caused widespread damage to homes, roads, and infrastructure, forcing residents to rely on immediate local action before state or federal aid arrived. Fear Of Crime, Intolerance Of Uncertainty, And Trait Worry: A Mediation Model Of Perceived Risk And Victimization Concerns, Nicholai N. Chasseau

This study examined psychological vulnerability and fear of crime in 538 adults from Trinidad and Tobago. Perceived risk was the strongest predictor of fear, while prospective intolerance of uncertainty predicted fear directly. Mediation was supported among Afro-Trinidadians but not Indo-Trinidadians, suggesting sociocultural differences in cognitive pathways linking vulnerability to fear.
