Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP) is an ultra-rare and disabling disease. Preventing unnecessary and/or harmful medical procedures to patients requires early and accurate diagnosis, multidisciplinary care, and access to specialists with FOP expertise. This study aims to assess the needs of healthcare providers (HCPs) when providing care to patients with FOP. Knowledge, confidence, and management practices were measured through a short awareness survey, completed by 400 HCPs from different specialties who may encounter patients with FOP. Complementary qualitative data were obtained from a dialogue session about FOP. Quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential analysis, while qualitative data underwent thematic …

Wearable and bedside sensors continuously generate electrocardiograms (ECG), photoplethysmograms (PPG), and related physiological waveforms that could enable earlier detection of deterioration and more personalized care. However, current deep learning pipelines in biomedical signal processing often remain taskand device-specific, degrade under domain shift (new hospitals, sensors, skin tones, motion), and provide limited uncertainty information for safety-critical decisions. We propose PhysioBridge, a foundation-model approach that learns a shared representation space for ECG and PPG via self-supervised pretraining and explicit physiology constraints, then supports downstream adaptation with distribution-free risk control. Jozsa, Bernstein-Vazirani, and Grover, utilize Hadamard gates to create uniform superposition states for the input qubits of an oracle. However, Hadamard gates are non-native (non-supported) gates in all real quantum computers. For this reason, Hadamard gates are considered cost-expensive gates when realizing (transpiling) such algorithms into a real quantum computer. This paper introduces a new methodology for cost-effective transpilation of Grover’s algorithm into real quantum computers, by replacing all Hadamard gates with √ X gates. Microbial inoculants are critical for sustainable crop production in dryland agriculture. However, several limitations (drought, heat, salinity, nutrient deficiency, etc.) of drylands and soil variability limit their consistent performance. Climate, soil properties (pH, texture, etc.), and their interactions are strong filters for microbial communities, functions, and activities across multiple scales, regions, and ecosystems. This review discusses several considerations of the peculiarities of drylands that must be factored into microbial formulations and inoculations decisions. Blanket/universal microbial formulations, inoculation methods, timings, and rates generally approach microbial, plant, and soil functions in isolation. First-generation students are an increasing presence on college campuses. First-generation students are coming to school, with a gap in social capital in comparison to their continuing- generation peers. First-generation students need support and resources to counteract this capital gap. Using self-determination theory (1985) and Astin’s theory of involvement (1984) as drivers to gauge best practices to support first year students. Purpose: This study evaluated differences in expected and observed proportions of activities, average Step 2 scores, and abstracts, publications, and presentations since the adoption of a 10-experience maximum for residency applications and pass/fail Step 1 grading.

Method: The authors queried National Resident Matching Program data for MD senior applicants from 2016 to 2024 across 22 specialties. Data included average Step 2 scores; research, work, and volunteer experiences; and number of research products for matched and unmatched students by specialty. We investigated the role of copy number variations (CNVs) in Parkinson's disease (PD) using genotyping data from 10,815 patients (2731 early-onset PD, EOPD) and 8901 controls from the COURAGE-PD consortium. CNVs were analyzed using a sliding window genome-wide association and burden approach. No genome-wide significant CNVs were detected in the overall cohort, but a robust deletion spanning exons 2-6 of PRKN was identified in EOPD cases, validated by MLPA, and replicated in the GP2 dataset (23,089 cases, 18,824 controls). CNV burden was significantly enriched in PD-related genes, primarily driven by PRKN, with the strongest effect observed in EOPD. PRKN CNV …

We study the spectral stability of small-amplitude Stokes waves in a family of weakly nonlinear, unidirectional models of the form u_t + Lu + (u²)_x = 0. We introduce a perturbation method to expand the spectral data in wave amplitude near flat-state eigenvalue collisions, with the ratio of the colliding modes as a free parameter. This yields sheets of spectral data whose slices at fixed amplitude give isolas of instability. The same perturbation framework treats both high-frequency and Benjamin--Feir instabilities, extends to discontinuous dispersion relations (including the Akers--Milewski equation), and, for the first time, provides an …

Depressive symptoms frequently follow exposure to major life stressors, such as spousal bereavement. However, long-term mental well-being varies considerably. Previously, daily negative affect significantly predicted future depressive symptoms. Higher daily negative affect may signify worse long-term mental health for individuals who also show enhanced inflammatory responses to acute stress, as heightened physiological reactivity to acute stress has been linked with increased susceptibility to depression. Among widow(er)s, we examined whether stress-induced inflammatory responses altered the magnitude of the association between daily negative affect and future depressive symptoms. The action research study examined how participation in teacher-led committees influenced teachers’ perceptions of agency and morale within an urban Midwestern high school. Grounded in theories of shared and distributed leadership, the study addressed a problem of practice centered on limited teacher voice, fragmented communication, and inconsistent collaborative structures. A convergent mixed-methods design was employed to evaluate changes in teacher morale and professional agency following implementation of teacher-led committees.

Quantitative data were collected using Wong’s (1991) Staff Morale Questionnaire (SMQ), measuring leadership synergy, cohesive pride, and personal challenge. Surveys were administered at baseline (N = 30) and endline ( …

It was not until 1972 that the modern oboe achieved a formally established professional presence in Costa Rica. This does not suggest that the instrument was absent from the country prior to this date; rather, its professional consolidation occurred with the arrival of two foreign oboists (Claudio Bondy and David Busch) and whose activities marked the beginning of systematic performance, pedagogy, and institutional continuity. As a result, the professional history of the oboe in Costa Rica has been established for only a few decades.

The growing need for accessible alternatives to synthetic insecticides has renewed interest in farmer-made botanical formulations for pest management. This study evaluated the efficacy of selected homemade botanical insecticides against diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella) and cabbage aphid (Brevicoryne brassicae) on cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata) and kale (B. oleracea var. acephala) under laboratory and semi-field conditions. Three homemade formulations were assessed: a one-day-old multi-plant extract with neem (Azadirachta indica; PE + N), a one-day-old extract without neem (PE), and a fourteen-day-old, fermented extract without neem (PE14). ● State and federal policies targeting divisive concepts or DEI are shaping research agendas at scale and across disciplines. Twenty percent of all respondents, and 29 percent of researchers working in states with divisive concepts or similar laws, reported having avoided certain research topics because of state laws and policies.

● Eight percent of respondents representing a wide range of disciplines reported having had a federal grant cancelled in 2025.
