Primary care providers often experience inconsistent confidence and incomplete documentation when managing hypertension, contributing to suboptimal blood pressure control. This quality improvement project addressed the need for structured provider education at an outpatient family clinic. The purpose was to evaluate the impact of a structured educational intervention on provider self-efficacy and documentation completeness. Using a quasi-experimental pre-post design guided by the Plan-Do-Study-Act model and Lewin's Change Theory, a 60-minute educational session was delivered to 12 licensed providers. Participants completed pre- and post-intervention self-efficacy surveys using the Acceptability of Intervention Measure (AIM) and Intervention Appropriateness Measure (IAM) and Feasibility of Intervention …

Student evaluation is an important factor in guiding students to develop self-confidence and gain competency in nursing skills. For evaluation to be effective, it must be consistent. The purpose of this quality improvement project is to implement a training program to improve consistency and interrater reliability among faculty conducting skill evaluations. The impact of the training program will be measured by a pre- and post-grading exercise using a skills rubric. Data will be extracted from the rubrics and entered into a codebook for data analysis. This paper examines how Corporate Affinity to Technology (CAT) affects organizational resilience among U.S. managers. Based on survey data from 364 managers in the retail, finance, and healthcare industries, this research indicates that the degree of technology use in a firm does not relate to the firm’s level of broadband availability or technology intensity, but rather to the extent to which technology is woven into the fabric of skills development, organizational culture, and the decision-making process. High-CAT firms are resilient under stress; low-CAT firms are fragile, irrespective of the level of technology they have invested in. Recommendations for managers who …

In the United States (US), occupational segregation by sex and race/ethnicity can contribute to health disparities. Although work schedule characteristics have been previously linked to elevated cardiovascular risk, little is known about the effects on chronic disease management in women and minoritized workers. We examined the association between work hours and diabetes management among US workers, testing for differences by sex and race/ethnicity. We utilized 2011–2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data on working adults (age ≥20 years) with diagnosed diabetes (n = 1041). This dissertation examines the paradisal quest of the Zomi people, an ethnic Christian minority in Myanmar, through the lens of Pentecostal spirituality. Historically, the Zomi have experienced political displacement, loss of their ancestral homeland (Zogam), and ongoing marginalization. While existing scholarship has primarily interpreted Zomi struggles in terms of ethnic identity, nationalism, and socio-political resistance, this study offers a theological reorientation by interpreting Zomi paradisal longing through the Spirit-Restored Paradise framework, a Pentecostal theological model developed here. A substantial number of older Americans lack confidence in their retirement preparation, and many approach retirement without a formal plan. Additionally, despite the economic significance of self-employment, little research has examined whether self-employed individuals differ from wage workers in retirement preparation and the conditions of underlying such differences. Guided by capability theory, this dissertation investigates the relationship between self-employment and retirement preparation, with particular attention to the mediating roles of financial capability, financial literacy, and financial self-efficacy.

Neonatal IgM antibodies reflect an in utero immune response to Treponema pallidum and may offer added diagnostic value. This study evaluated the test performance of treponemal IgM levels measured by the research-use-only (RUO) Dual Path Platform (DPP) Syphilis TnT point-of-care (POC) assay for congenital syphilis (CS) risk stratification. Conducted from May 2023 to May 2025, this study tested neonatal serum samples from infants born to mothers with syphilis using the DPP Syphilis TnT RUO POC assay, which reports treponemal and nontreponemal IgM levels as relative light units (RLU). Sharks are incredibly common in the Atlantic and Gulf waters surrounding Florida. Despite the prevalent nature of these animals, little research exists on the composition of their microbial communities (or “microbiomes”). Here we aim to determine the microbial makeup of the oral environment of sharks so that we can determine if there are any bacteria of clinical significance to humans, such as being antibiotic-resistant or having elevated capability for pathogenicity. The BCON-1 project aims to design and prototype the structural framework for a 1P-sized PocketQube satellite as an initial step toward developing a fully independent, flight-ready spacecraft. Building on experience and data from the earlier BCON-2 payload and the first prototype in 2023, BCON-1 focuses on creating a satellite structure and a downlink coordination system to optimize communication with ground stations. The mission seeks to demonstrate efficient data transmission from satellites to receive-only ground stations. This semester our goal is to successfully run an antenna deployment test.

The thesis examines whether economic sanctions erode the target countries’ state capacity and whether these effects differ by the identity of the sanctioning actors. Drawing on “the naïve theory of sanctions”, the thesis hypothesizes that economic sanctions reduce fiscal and administrative capacity but incentivize military capacity. By incorporating data from the Global Sanctions Database, the World Bank, and the V-Dem datasets, the thesis employs country-fixed-effects models to test hypotheses. The overall findings contradict the naïve assumptions and indicate that sanctions have limited efficacy in undermining the state capacity of target countries. Background: Individuals with a serious mental illness (SMI) are 2 to 3 times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes, yet are less likely to receive routine screening of hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) testing. Vasoplegia Syndrome (VS) is a form of distributive shock that is characterized by profound hypotension, low systemic vascular resistance, and high to normal cardiac output during/after cardiopulmonary bypass. VS is associated with increased mortality, morbidity, and length of stay in the intensive care unit.

We analyze a suite of high-resolution cosmological zoom-in simulations of jetted Seyfert galaxies over z < ∼10 projected on the major scaling relations, comparing trajectories of “normal” versus jet-hosting galaxies. Models include thermal and mechanical jet feedback launched from supermassive black holes (SMBHs) seeded at z ∼ 9.1 and z ∼ 3.7 with M_• ∼ 10⁶ M_⊙ in galaxies within dark matter halos of (Formula presented) logMhalo/M⊙∼11.8 at z = 0. A single parameter, the SMBH accretion efficiency, has been varied, resulting in L_jet ∼ 10⁴⁰⁻⁴² erg s⁻¹, and SMBH accretion rates range between ∼0.2 and 10⁻⁴ of the Eddington rate. We find that jet feedback (1) suppresses central star formation rates (SFRs), redistributes gas to larger radii, (2) generates long-lived expanding shocks that couple to the interstellar medium and circumgalactic …

Recent agricultural applications of engineered metallic nanoparticles (ENPs) have raised concerns about their uptake and fate in plants. To understand this critical issue, this study investigated the fate and uptake of silver (Ag) and zinc oxide (ZnO) ENPs in maize (Zea mays L.) after single or binary ENP exposure in soil. Results indicated that both Zn and Ag elemental concentrations in roots increased with increasing ENP dosage. Ag NPs in the tissues were detected, but not Zn NPs. Ag NP concentration was 3 times higher in the roots than in the shoots at low Ag NP dosing, while Ag NP …

Urine specimen contamination in emergency department settings contributes to diagnostic inaccuracies, unnecessary antibiotic use, increased healthcare costs, and decreased patient satisfaction. This quality improvement project evaluated the impact of a simulation-based educational intervention on staff knowledge, self-efficacy, and urine specimen contamination rates among emergency department nurses and patient care technicians with less than six years of clinical experience in a rural Texas hospital.
