Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting approximately 10% of reproductive-aged women worldwide and is commonly associated with pelvic pain, infertility, and reduced quality of life. Current management strategies, including hormonal therapies and surgical intervention, often provide only temporary relief and are associated with recurrence and adverse effects. These limitations highlight the need for alternative, non-hormonal therapeutic approaches that target underlying inflammatory and cellular mechanisms of disease progression.

Weight Concerns And Body Image Dissatisfaction Elicit Maternal Psychological Control Through Escalating Appearance Anxiety Behaviors, Madeleine Guillont

The current study examines bidirectional associations between adolescent body-related concerns and maternal psychological control, and the behavioral mechanism through which these associations operate. Participants were 723 sixth- through ninth-grade students (350 girls, 373 boys; ages 11–15) attending all public middle and secondary schools in a mid-sized Lithuanian community. Self-report surveys were collected at three time points across the course of a school year. Results from full longitudinal mediation models indicated that higher body image dissatisfaction and weight concerns at the beginning of the school year predicted increases in maternal psychological control at the end of the school year, through increases …

The U.S. cybersecurity workforce continues to experience a critical talent shortage alongside persistent inequities in racial representation, particularly at the faculty level within higher education. This mixed-methods dissertation examines African American representation among faculty in cybersecurity academic programs designated by the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C) and investigates the factors that influence recruitment, retention, and advancement. Grounded in a transformative research framework, the study integrates quantitative analysis of national institutional data with qualitative interviews to illuminate structural patterns and lived experiences shaping representation.

Cardiovascular, Metabolic, And Mortality Outcomes With Semaglutide Versus Tirzepatide In Obese Patients With Hypothyroidism: A Real-World Analysis, Andrew Cecil, Ekow Essien, Gloria Amoako, Abena Agyekum

OBJECTIVE: Hypothyroidism coexists with obesity and increases cardiovascular risk. This study compared cardiovascular, metabolic, and mortality outcomes between semaglutide and tirzepatide in obese hypothyroid patients.

METHODS: This retrospective cohort study utilized the TriNetX Global Collaborative Network (155 healthcare organizations). Adults aged ≥18 years with BMI ≥30 kg/m² and hypothyroidism receiving semaglutide (n=104,138) or tirzepatide (n=45,772) were identified. After 1:1 propensity score matching for demographics, comorbidities, and medications, 42,940 patients per cohort were analyzed over 5 years. Outcomes included all-cause mortality, myocardial infarction, heart failure, pulmonary embolism, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, and cerebrovascular disease. Inflammatory Burden And Multisystem Outcomes In Cushing's Disease: A Five-Year Comparative Cohort Study Stratified By Hs-Crp, Andrew Cecil, Ekow Essien, Gloria Amoako, Abena Agyekum

OBJECTIVE:

Cushing's disease is associated with significant cardiovascular and metabolic morbidity, yet the role of systemic inflammation as a prognostic marker remains incompletely characterized. We investigated whether elevated high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) identifies a higher-risk phenotype among patients with pituitary-dependent Cushing's disease across multiple organ systems.

METHODS:

Using the TriNetX Global Collaborative Network (155 healthcare organizations), we conducted a propensity-matched comparative cohort analysis of adults with Cushing's disease stratified by hs-CRP levels (≥1.20 mg/L vs. < 1.20 mg/L). Following 1:1 propensity score matching for demographics, comorbidities, and medication use, 617 patients per cohort were analyzed. Outcomes included mortality, cardiovascular events (myocardial infarction, heart failure, pulmonary embolism), chronic kidney disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, depression, osteoporosis, and cerebrovascular disease over a five-year follow-up period (1-1825 days post-index).

RESULTS:

Patients with elevated hs-CRP demonstrated significantly higher all-cause mortality (20.5% vs. 7.9%; HR 2.86, p< 0.001) , increased risks of heart failure (7.9% vs. 4.5%; HR 1.98, p=0.023), and type 2 diabetes (14.5% vs. 6.1%; HR 2.71, 95% CI 1.65-4.45, p< 0.001). No significant differences were observed in myocardial infarction (3.3% vs. 2.3%, p=0.303), chronic kidney disease (12.1% vs. 8.3%; p=0.052), hypertension (23.5% vs. 16.9%; p=0.067),   pulmonary embolism (3.1% vs. 1.7%, p=0.118), depression (6.3% vs. 5.6%, p=0.606), osteoporosis (7.1% vs. 6.5%, p=0.704), or cerebrovascular disease (8.4% vs. 7.6%, p=0.635).

This talk examines how Callao, the district with the second highest homicide rate in Peru, has come to be understood—and governed—as a site of danger. Tracing Callao’s history since its founding in 1537, the presentation shows how racialized labor regimes, criminalized economies, environmental degradation, and uneven state presence have produced enduring narratives of disorder. These narratives have obscured structural abandonment while casting residents as inherently troublesome and dangerous. Rather than an exceptional space, Callao emerges as a product of these long-term processes, revealing how violence functions not as a breakdown of order, but as a central mechanism through which urban …

Neurodegenerative diseases (NDs), such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and prion diseases, are characterized by the dynamical spread of toxic proteins through the brain. In prion diseases, cellular prion protein (PrPC), produced by neurons, misfolds into a toxic form, known as scrapie prion protein (PrPSc). PrPSc induces neuronal stress which ultimately leads to cell death. In this paper, we develop mathematical models for the progression of prion diseases, incorporating a cellular defense mechanism that introduces a delay term affecting protein translation and a volatility term accounting for unaccounted biological factors influencing the system. The limited remains of a structure exposed in an excavation carried out just outside ‘Akko’s Land Gate probably formed part of a late Ottoman–early British Mandate roadside coffeehouse for travellers and merchants passing through the city. The associated finds included local and regional glazed pottery, European porcelain bowls and coffee cups, tobacco pipes and nargile heads, and glass items, reflecting the encounter and interaction of local traditions and international trade networks at the site. This study discusses the pottery retrieved from the excavation at the western foot of Tel Yafo, dated to Iron Age II and the Persian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Early Islamic, Crusader, Mamluk and Ottoman periods. The ceramic assemblage is generally similar to the assemblages retrieved from other contemporaneous contexts in Yafo, whilst also including a few rare or locally uncommon types. Hence, this pottery constitutes a contribution to our knowledge on the material culture and economic contacts of Yafo’s population in these periods, and in a few instances perhaps even hints to the presence of foreign individuals among the local population. …

An excavation at Qedumim Square, Yafo, uncovered settlement remains of the tell, dating from Iron II, the Persian, Hellenistic–Early Roman, Byzantine, Early Islamic, Crusader and late Ottoman–British Mandate periods. Two segments of a fortification wall were probably part of an Umayyad-period fortress dating from the seventh century CE. A late Ottoman-period stone-paved street with a drainage and sewage channel below it contribute important data concerning the urban infrastructure of that time. Several coins and large quantities of pottery retrieved from the excavation, including a few ceramic items inscribed with short Hebrew, Greek and Latin inscriptions, shed light on the settlements …

Dendroarchaeological Analysis Of Charcoal Fragments From The Byzantine Street In The City Of David, Jerusalem, Mordechay Benzaquen, Dafna Langgut

The excavation of the Byzantine Street in the City of David, Jerusalem (Area S2) yielded several hundred charcoal fragments from multiple loci, of which 200 specimens were analyzed at the Laboratory of Archaeobotany and Ancient Environments at Tel Aviv University. Preservation was generally good to moderate, and all identified taxa belong to the local Mediterranean Israeli flora. The assemblage is characterized by low taxonomic diversity and is overwhelmingly dominated by conifers, with Cupressus sempervirens (Mediterranean cypress) and Pinus halepensis (Aleppo pine) comprising nearly 90% of the analyzed material, suggesting that most of the charcoal derives from construction timbers commonly used …

The faunal assemblage from the Byzantine Street (Area S2) in the City of David derives from domestic refuse accumulated on a street surface and from redeposited construction fill associated with episodes of street repair during the late Byzantine–Early Islamic periods. The assemblage is well-preserved but highly fragmented, indicating rapid burial followed by post-depositional disturbance. Taxonomic composition is dominated by sheep and goats, with lower frequencies of pigs and cattle, alongside chicken, fish and molluscs, reflecting patterns of everyday urban consumption. Caprine age-at-death profiles are skewed toward adults, suggesting herd management strategies that emphasized secondary products and herd maintenance rather than …

Cotton Threads From The Byzantine Street (Area S2), Jerusalem, Naama Sukenik

The excavation of the Byzantine Street in the City of David, Jerusalem, yielded bundles of thread preserved through carbonization. They were identified as cotton fibers based on their morphological structure as observed under light microscopy. Despite their poor state of preservation, which makes it difficult to determine the nature of the object and its precise date, this study offers several possible interpretations based on the analytical results and preliminary findings.

Coins From The Excavations Of The Byzantine Street (Area S2), City Of David, Jerusalem, Donald T. Ariel

The coins retrieved from beneath the stone-paved Byzantine street in the City of David, Jerusalem, were studied with the hope that they will provide a date for its construction. Although only few of the coins assigned to the pre-street phase provided precise dates, the analysis of the numismatic assemblage provided dates for the various excavation strata, spanning the first and eighth centuries CE. These coins are an important addition to the extensive coin dataset recorded in the adjacent and contemporaneous Givʻati Parking Lot excavations.

Glass Finds Of The Late Byzantine–Umayyad Periods From The Byzantine-Period Street (Area S2), Jerusalem, Tamar Winter

Most of the glass finds recovered from Area S2 of the paved Byzantine-period street, south of the Temple Mount, date to the late Byzantine–Umayyad periods. These finds include various bowls, wineglasses and bottles, many of which are decorated with applied and fused-in trails, as well as jugs, lamps, windowpanes and a single tessera. The glass vessels and artifacts are characteristic of the period, and they reflect conventions observed in other contemporaneous glass corpora from Jerusalem and its environs. The Byzantine street segment exposed in Area S2 revealed pottery dated primarily to the Byzantine and the beginning of Early Islamic period, including from well-stratified contexts; these finds are accompanied by a handful of Early and Late Roman period pottery types which should be treated as residuals of pre-Byzantine activity in the area.
