Coherence In The Fractal City, Sanaa Sati Abbas, Sahar Hilal Abdul Rida Al-Dujaili
Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning
This research is a second part of paper about the Fractal City. The research studies the coherence phenomenon in this city, which is one of its characters. The paper connects the urban coherence with the geometrical coherence through the theory of complexity which says that the large scale complex which is assembled from tightly interacting subunits on many different levels of scale is in a hierarchy going down to the natural structure of material. Also through the connection with the rules of geometrical coherence which are, the coupling, variety, boundaries, forces, organization, hierarchy, interdependency and decomposition. The case study was …

Design Characteristics And Flexibility In University Buildings : Mosul University As A Case Study, Ali Haidar Aljameel, Raeed Salim Al-Nu'man
Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning
Flexibility is one of the principal factors in architecture to which a paramount significance must be attached. This significance gains more ground in contemporary life in which change accelerates in a tremendous speed, for today's design might not meet tomorrow's needs without shifts or modification and this applies to the University buildings more than any other buildings in comparison. However, by reviewing the theoretical hypotheses tackling this topic in architecture on the one hand, and critically analysing architecture research on it, on the other hand; it results that none of these hypotheses or investigations have adequately or clearly determined the …
Protractors For Predicting Natural Lighting Levels In Architectural Spaces For Clear Sky In Iraq, Miqdad Haidar Al-Jawadi
Protractors For Predicting Natural Lighting Levels In Architectural Spaces For Clear Sky In Iraq, Miqdad Haidar Al-Jawadi
Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning
This paper deals with providing architects with protractors for clear sky natural lighting in order to help them in predicting light levels in architectural spaces which occur from any size of right angle windows. The protractors, which had been designed by professor Hopkinson before 1964, available to architects at present are two protractors one for over-cast sky and another for virtual uniform sky- not quite true in reality-, as the calculation for clear skies had not been yet approved. In 1965, Dr. Richard Kittler architect from The Slovak Academy of Science presented his explanation and his formula at CIE conference in …

Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning
Climute imposes big impact on the life of human and his activities, among them his residence which if designed and executed suitably to the climate without additional artificial treatments, it will achieve the thermal comfort to the resident.Hence the idiom ,, climatic efficient residence" rises which means harmonizing the effective climatic factors (with using minimum amount of energy) leading to the " ideal climatic shape,, which is characterized by the receiving of minimum amount of thermal iaad in si[nmer and maximum amount of it in winter, this will effectively reduce energy consutnption. The ideal climatic shape implies, as well as, …

Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning
The current research tries to explore the bases of establishing "The excitement phenomena" through 'Olor scheme articulations. Basically, the phenomena is influenced, presumably by structural and meaningful principles of articulations in the interior spaces. To tackle the research problem, three proposed models for esthetical interior spaces were chosen a a research settings. Also, virtual color articulation patterns were established, to select the most satisfactory, to achieve excitement Quasi- experimental method was adopted, depending on, gestalt theory of perception, analytical-descriptive st dy method, and a questioner as a method of testing. Fifty types of color articulations for each of 3 models, …

Architecture today aims to achieve poetics and eloquence in the architectural form, through which the pluralism and enrichment of meanings is achieved, and which achieves the involvement of the recipient in the creative process and his participation in the production of the text. In this case, the recipient will create bridges between the elements of the presence and the elements Absence and the text continues to acquire meanings and meanings as long as we have something to provide it with, and its meanings are only implemented by the limits of the reader’s experience and imagination. Complexity In Urban Environment, Sanaa Sati Abbas, Sahar Hilal Abdul Rida Al-Dujaili
Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning
Complexity is considered a design characteristic in the urban environment, representing a special case of environmental preference. Many studies link the concept of complexity to two fundamental concepts: ambiguity and contradiction. Therefore, this research aims first to distinguish between complexity and these two concepts at the urban level. Urban environments possess desirable levels of complexity, and their deficiency or excess can cause numerous environmental and psychological problems. Furthermore, complexity in the urban environment is linked to two key factors: observable and measurable differences and the speed of movement. Although complexity is necessary, it can cause a kind of disorientation and …
