Feasibility Of Using Combustion-Based Methods To Quantify Saline-Based Anti-Stripping Agent In Modified Asphalt Binders, Riyadul Hashem Riyad, Ji Wu, Junan Shen

Civil Engineering & Construction: Faculty Publications

“Anti-stripping Agents” or “adhesion promoters” can enhance the chemical affinity between asphalt and aggregate by increasing their mutual attraction. Various forms of anti-stripping agents have been proposed to mitigate pavement stripping, and siloxane-based Zychotherm is one of them. Choosing the appropriate type and dose of anti-stripping additives is no doubt vital to the intended performance. Therefore, it is critically important to determine the dose of the additives used in the modification of asphalt binders. This research developed a feasible detection method that can closely measure the dose (0.05% and 0.1%) of siloxane-based anti-stripping liquid agents. Related test methods, including heat …

Research Methods Poster Session 2024

Investigating genetic abnormalities in recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is critical due to the large number of unexplained cases, which account for around 50%. While routine karyotyping of products of conception (POC) is widely employed, its efficacy is limited by a high failure rate in cytogenetics laboratories. Thus, Chromosomal Microarray Analysis (CMA) offers a potential option, with a success rate of more than 90% when karyotyping fails. Unlike karyotyping, CMA allows a full genome investigation without the requirement for live cultures, allowing the discovery of a variety of genetic abnormalities linked to pregnancy loss, including copy number variations, deletions, duplications, and …

Isovalent doping offers a method to enhance the thermoelectric properties of semiconductors, yet its influence on the phonon structure and propagation is often overlooked. Here, we take CdX (X=Te, Se) compounds as an example to study the role of isovalent doping in thermoelectrics by first-principles calculations in combination with the Boltzmann transport theory. The electronic and phononic properties of Cd8Se8, Cd8Se7Te, Cd8Te8, and Cd8Te7Se are compared. The results suggest that isovalent doping with CdX significantly improves the thermoelectric performance. Due to the similar properties of Se and Te atoms, the electronic properties remain unaffected. Moreover, doping enhances anharmonic phonon scattering, …

2020-Current year OA Pubs

The transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) has seen significant evolution since its early inception, reflecting advancements in surgical techniques, patient safety, and outcomes. Originally described as an improvement over the posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF), the TLIF began as an open surgical procedure, that notably reduced the need for the extensive neural retractation that hindered the PLIF. In line with the broader practice of surgery, trending toward minimally invasive access, the TLIF was followed by the development of the minimally invasive TLIF (MIS-TLIF), a technique that further decreased tissue trauma and postoperative complications. Subsequent advancements, including Trans-Kambin's Triangle TLIF (percLIF) …
