Layered Double Hydroxide (LDH) Is Reported To Improve The Durability Of Concretes, Primarily Due To Its Ability To Exchange Anionic Species, Including Chloride, Which Is Implicated In Corrosion-Driven Durability Issues. However, There Is No Comprehensive Study Investigating The Effect Of LDH On The Properties Of Different Cement Systems At Both Early And Mature Ages. In This Study, The Early Age And Mature Age Properties Of Portland Cement (OPC) And Calcium Sulfoaluminate (CSA) Cement Pastes Seeded With Submicron-Sized Calcium Aluminum-NO3 LDH (CaAl-NO3 LDH) Were Investigated. The Effects Of The 1–5%mass Dosage Of LDH On The Hydration Of Both Cement Systems Were …

Mathematically Rigorous Deep Learning Paradigms For Data-Driven Scientific Modeling, Owen Nicholas Davis Apr 2024

Mathematically Rigorous Deep Learning Paradigms For Data-Driven Scientific Modeling, Owen Nicholas Davis

Mathematics & Statistics ETDs

This dissertation explores the crucial role of data-driven modeling in science and engineering, with a focus on developing surrogate models to accelerate large-scale computational tasks, aiding in both outer-loop functions like uncertainty quantification and expensive inner-loop tasks within broader computational frameworks. Challenges arise with increased problem dimension and sparse, noisy training data, particularly significant when constructing surrogates for very expensive computational models where acquiring sufficient high-fidelity training data is unfeasible. In such scenarios, training surrogates from an ensemble of multifidelity information sources of varying accuracy and cost becomes essential. We emphasize neural network-based modeling paradigms, which are flexible in integrating …

Role Of Protein Kinase A And A Kinase Anchoring Proteins In Buffering And Compartmentation Of Camp Signalling In Human Airway Smooth Muscle Cells, Rinzhin T. Sherpa, Karni S. Moshal, Shailesh R. Agarwal, Rennolds S. Ostrom, Robert D. Harvey Apr 2024

Pharmacy Faculty Articles and Research

Background and Purpose

In human airway smooth muscle (hASM) cells, not all receptors stimulating cAMP production elicit the same effects. This can only be explained if cAMP movement throughout the cell is restricted, yet the mechanisms involved are not fully understood. Phosphodiesterases (PDEs) contribute to compartmentation of many cAMP responses, but PDE activity alone is predicted to be insufficient if cAMP is otherwise freely diffusible. We tested the hypothesis that buffering of cAMP by protein kinase A (PKA) associated with A kinase anchoring proteins (AKAPs) slows cAMP diffusion and that this contributes to receptor-mediated, compartmentalized responses.

Unpacking Automated Test Assembly: New Findings And Directions For The Future, Ling Tan, Charlotte Waters, Fuchan Huang, Dan Cloney

OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA)

In large-scale assessments, the manual assembly of tests to meet many competing criteria may become an intractable task. Automated test assembly (ATA) can use optimisation algorithms to achieve optimal assembly outcomes. Since 2018, PISA has been transitioning from fixed test forms to adaptive testing. This transition is driven by the aim of improved test targeting, which increases reliability. Multi-stage adaptive testing (MSAT) has been preferred to item level computer adaptive testing (CAT) as it can better address the sometimes-competing requirements of an assessment like PISA where item exposure, position effects, construct coverage, and cross-sectional trend all must be met in …

Emerging Therapies For Glioblastoma, Stella Aime Rios, Stephanie Oyervides, David Uribe, Angelica Maree Reyes, Victor Fanniel, Jonathan Vazquez, Megan Keniry

School of Integrative Biological & Chemical Sciences Faculty Publications

Simple Summary

Glioblastoma is the most common malignant brain cancer and is associated with poor prognosis, with an average survival after diagnosis of less than 18 months. Hundreds of clinical trials have been conducted, with more underway to make progress in treating glioblastoma. This review details conventional and emergent targeted therapies for glioblastoma.

Abstract

Glioblastoma is most commonly a primary brain tumor and the utmost malignant one, with a survival rate of approximately 12–18 months. Glioblastoma is highly heterogeneous, demonstrating that different types of cells from the same tumor can manifest distinct gene expression patterns and biological behaviors. Conventional therapies …

2024 Academy Of Law Alumni Fellows Induction Ceremony Program, Maurer School Of Law - Indiana University

Academy of Law Alumni Fellows

The Academy of Law Alumni Fellows was established in 1985 to recognize alumni whose careers are defined by exceptional personal achievement and dedication to the highest standards of the profession.

Academy Fellows are part of an elite group that includes US senators, federal judges, successful business leaders, and distinguished practitioners. A committee of anonymous alumni selects each year’s Fellows from among many deserving candidates. To be named an Academy of Law Alumni Fellow is to receive the very highest honor that the Maurer School of Law can bestow.

This year, we are honored to recognize four alumni whose remarkable contributions …

Immersive Japanese Language Learning Web Application Using Spaced Repetition, Active Recall, And An Artificial Intelligent Conversational Chat Agent Both In Voice And In Text, Marc Butler Apr 2024

Immersive Japanese Language Learning Web Application Using Spaced Repetition, Active Recall, And An Artificial Intelligent Conversational Chat Agent Both In Voice And In Text, Marc Butler

MS in Computer Science Project Reports

In the last two decades various human language learning applications, spaced repetition software, online dictionaries, and artificial intelligent chat agents have been developed. However, there is no solution to cohesively combine these technologies into a comprehensive language learning application including skills such as speaking, typing, listening, and reading. Our contribution is to provide an immersive language learning web application to the end user which combines spaced repetition, a study technique used to review information at systematic intervals, and active recall, the process of purposely retrieving information from memory during a review session, with an artificial intelligent conversational chat agent both …

Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors: A Narrative Review On Pd-1/Pd-L1 Blockade Mechanism, Efficacy, And Safety Profile In Treating Malignancy, Ian Brandon

All Publications

Checkpoint inhibitors have been implicated in the treatment of several cancers due to their ability to exploit the immune system's regulatory pathways. This article serves to emphasize the importance of these immunotherapeutic agents and provide further insight into their mechanisms, efficacies, and safety profiles. The main agents in question include programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) and programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1). Several literature sources were found to assess the use of these inhibitors in cancers involving the lung, breast, and skin. Several peer-reviewed systematic reviews and the outcomes of clinical trials are combined within this article to support the …

Jurnal Kultivasi

Job's tears (Coix lacryma-jobi L.) is a carbohydrate source functional food crop that can be developed as a substitute for rice. This study aims to determine the best application frequency of phosphate (P) fertilizer and paclobutrazol for supporting the growth and yield of job's tears in both rainy and dry seasons. The research was conducted from November 2021 - November 2022 at the Ciparanje research station and Laboratory Centre Universitas Padjadjaran, Jatinangor, Sumedang. The experiment used a randomized block design (RBD) consisting of P fertilizer application frequency (once, twice, and thrice) and paclobutrazol application frequency (once, twice, and thrice) and …
