Advancements In Sequence Generation: A Gan-Based Reinforcement Learning Approach
Advancements In Sequence Generation: A Gan-Based Reinforcement Learning Approach
Defensive Publications Series
This paper builds upon the SeqGAN framework, aiming to introduce targeted enhancements to improve its efficacy. SeqGAN, a pivotal algorithm for generating discrete token sequences, is extensively utilized across various NLP applications. By conceptualizing the data generator as a stochastic policy within the domain of reinforcement learning (RL), SeqGAN adeptly sidesteps the challenges associated with generator differentiation through direct gradient policy updates. The RL reward signal is derived from the evaluations of a GAN discriminator assessing complete sequences, subsequently informing state-action decisions via Monte Carlo search. Notable enhancements include the incorporation of WGAN, employing Earth Mover’s distance rather than KL …

Remote Work Admist The Covid-19 Outbreak: Insights From An Ensemble Community-Based Keyword Network Analysis, Carlo Drago, Luisa Errichiello
Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers
COVID-19’s rapid shift to remote working has sparked interest in synthetizing the growing body of research in order to gain a comprehensive understanding into the scholarship structure of the field. This study explores the issue of pandemic-induced remote working from a multidisciplinary perspective, paving the way for further investigation and effective decision-making. A co-occurrence network analysis of keywords in scientific articles is employed to comprehensively analyze the international literature on pandemic-induced remote working. We use bibliometric analysis, network centrality measures, and community detection algorithms to identify key concepts, trends, and interconnections within the pandemic-induced research landscape. As a result of …

A Hierarchical Network Management Strategy For Distributed Ciiot With Imperfect Csi, Fan Yang, Shilong Zhang, Chunnian Liu, Jie Huang, Tao Yu, Keping Yu, Mohsen Guizani
Machine Learning Faculty Publications
In the distributed Cognitive Industrial Internet of Things (CIIoT), since industrial devices may self-organize to determine their connection and dispersion and the network may be distributed with no infrastructure, network management with self-organizing characteristics is still an unsolved and a difficult problem. To overcome this challenge, this article proposes a hierarchical network management strategy for distributed CIIoT with imperfect channel state information (CSI) considering services with different transmission delay requirements. First, we build a two-layer architecture that supports collaborative spectrum sensing and multinode spectrum sharing in a distributed CIIoT. Then, to improve the network management efficiency and reduce the number …

Tokengreen: A Versatile Nft Framework For Peer-To-Peer Energy Trading And Asset Ownership Of Electric Vehicles, Madhusudan Naik, Akhilendra Pratap Singh, Nihar Ranjan Pradhan, Neeraj Kumar, Amiya Nayak, Mohsen Guizani
Machine Learning Faculty Publications
The rapid increase in the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and the installation of charging stations (CSs) are key components for bidirectional energy transfer between EVs and CSs. However, the traditional techniques of energy trading have issues of trust, scalability, traceability, provenance, and authenticity among energy prosumers. To address these challenges, particularly information imbalances between energy buyers and sellers, we propose TokenGreen, a novel framework that leverages blockchain and nonfungible tokens (NFTs) to enable participants to have ownership of energy assets through investments in distributed energy generation, distribution, and clean energy infrastructure, leading to trust and transparency management among the …

Addicted To The Beloved? A Comparison Of Craving For And Attention To Beloved And Vape Stimuli, Caitlyn Harriman
Addicted To The Beloved? A Comparison Of Craving For And Attention To Beloved And Vape Stimuli, Caitlyn Harriman
Theses
People who are in love seem to be addicted to their beloved. People who are in love have attentional biases for the beloved and people who are addicted have attentional biases for the substance they are using. This raises the question of how similar craving and attention are for the beloved and an addictive substance. However, there are no studies that directly compared craving and attention to the beloved and addictive stimuli. The aims of the current research were to directly compare subjective emotional experiences, sustained motivated attention, and early automatic attention for the beloved and vape stimuli, in people …

American Evangelicals’ New Testament: How Trump Gained Support From The Nation’S Most “Moral” Voters, Isabel V. Capecci
American Evangelicals’ New Testament: How Trump Gained Support From The Nation’S Most “Moral” Voters, Isabel V. Capecci
Political Science Honors Projects
For nearly four decades, white Evangelical Christians in the United States rallied around politicians who all fit a similar mold. This consistency was flipped on its head in 2016 when Evangelicals poured out in unprecedented levels to support Donald Trump. Despite being inconsistent with the type of candidate they have traditionally voted for, Evangelicals flocked to the polls with 81% of this group supporting Trump for the presidency. Evangelical support for Trump remained over 75% for the duration of his presidency and his reelection campaign in 2020. This shift begs the following research question: How was Donald Trump able to …
An Originalist Approach To Puerto Rico: Arguments Against The Status Quo, Micah Allred
An Originalist Approach To Puerto Rico: Arguments Against The Status Quo, Micah Allred
Notre Dame Law Review Reflection
Few originalists have grappled with a fundamental question about Puerto Rico: whether the Constitution permits the United States to hold the island indefinitely as nonstate territory. There are reasons to doubt that it does. The main purpose of the Constitution’s territorial provisions was to allow Congress to transition the then West-ern Territory into states. And, as a structural matter, Congress’s direct authority over Puerto Ricans conflicts with important constitutional principles such as federalism. But for originalists, arguments from purpose and structure are helpful only insofar as they elucidate the original meaning of the Constitution’s text. This Article lays out two …

Tying Law For The Digital Age, Daniel A. Crane
Tying Law For The Digital Age, Daniel A. Crane
Notre Dame Law Review
Tying arrangements, a central concern of antitrust policy since the early days of the Sherman and Clayton Acts, have come into renewed focus with respect to the practices of dominant technology companies. Unfortunately, tying law’s doctrinal structure is a self-contradictory and incoherent wreck. A conventional view holds that this mess is due to errant Supreme Court precedents, never fully corrected, that expressed hostility to tying based on faulty economic understanding. That is only part of the story. Examination of tying law’s origins and development shows that tying doctrine was built on a now-dated paradigm of what constitutes a tying arrangement. …
Admiralty, Abstention, And The Allure Of Old Cases, Maggie Gardner
Admiralty, Abstention, And The Allure Of Old Cases, Maggie Gardner
Notre Dame Law Review
The current Supreme Court has made clear that history matters. But doing history well is hard. There is thus an allure to old cases because they provide a link to the past that is more accessible for nonhistorian lawyers. This Article warns against that allure by showing how the use of old cases also poses methodological challenges. The Article uses as a case study the emerging doctrine of foreign relations abstention. Before the Supreme Court, advocates argued that this new doctrine is in fact rooted in early admiralty cases. Those advocates did not, however, canvass the early admiralty practice, relying …
Pretrial Commitment And The Fourth Amendment, Laurent Sacharoff
Pretrial Commitment And The Fourth Amendment, Laurent Sacharoff
Notre Dame Law Review
Today, the Fourth Amendment Warrant Clause governs arrest warrants and search warrants only. But in the founding era, the Warrant Clause governed a third type of warrant: the “warrant of commitment.” Judges issued these warrants to jail defendants pending trial. This Article argues that the Fourth Amendment Warrant Clause, with its oath and probable cause standard, should be understood today to apply to this third type of warrant. That means the Warrant Clause would govern any initial appearance where a judge first commits a defendant—a process that currently falls far short of fulfilling its constitutional and historical function. History supports …
Climate Zoning, Christopher Serkin
Climate Zoning, Christopher Serkin
Notre Dame Law Review
As the urgency of the climate crisis becomes increasingly apparent, many local governments are adopting land use regulations aimed at minimizing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The emerging approaches call for loosening zoning restrictions to unlock greater density and for strict new green building codes. This Article argues that both approaches are appropriate in some places but not in others. Not all density is created equal, and compact multifamily housing at the urban fringe may actually in-crease GHG emissions. Moreover, where density is appropriate, deregulation will not necessarily produce it. And, finally, green building codes will increase housing costs and so …
Intellectual Property And The Myth Of Nonrivalry, James Y. Stern
Intellectual Property And The Myth Of Nonrivalry, James Y. Stern
Notre Dame Law Review
The concept of rivalry is central to modern accounts of property. When one per-son’s use of a resource is incompatible with another’s, a system of rights to determine its use may be necessary. It is commonly asserted, however, that informational goods like inventions and expressive works are nonrivalrous and that intellectual property rights must therefore be subject to special limitation, if they should even exist at all. This Article examines the idea of rivalry more closely and makes a series of claims about the analysis of rivalrousness for purposes of such arguments. Within that frame-work, it argues that rivalry should …
Narratives Of Exile: Themes Of Displacement In Seghers, Duras, And Elio, Erin Consla
Narratives Of Exile: Themes Of Displacement In Seghers, Duras, And Elio, Erin Consla
Foreign Languages & Literatures ETDs
This thesis examines identity, memory, and displacement in the exile narratives of Anna Seghers, Marguerite Duras, and María Luisa Elío. I argue that identity post-exile can be conceptualized as a continuous process of becoming, marked by a kaleidoscope of past, present, and future. Several aesthetic maneuvers such as the use of elements of form, memories of childhood, and palimpsest are shared by the chosen narratives, resulting in similar negotiations with identity. Through analysis of the authors' aesthetic focalizations, it becomes clear that their binary subject positions are modulated by the liminality and contradictions inherent in identity creation after exile. The …

Critical Faith: What It Is, What It Isn't & Why It Matters [Chapter 1], Joni Schwartz
Critical Faith: What It Is, What It Isn't & Why It Matters [Chapter 1], Joni Schwartz
Publications and Research
Near hysteria has erupted in the media, state and federal legislatures, community boards, and churches around critical race theory (CRT). Despite the term's history, development, and clearly defined meaning, it has become a catch-all for white America's fears, deflections, and equivocations on race, society, and the law. Christians are no exception. Their critiques routinely claim that CRT is rewriting of American history, that it is anti-democratic, and even heretical.
Critical Faith presents a counter argument to these claims and insists that CRT is a tool to grapple with the thorny issue of race in both society and the church. In …
