Electronic health records transformed the healthcare landscape, improving portability of patient information while streamlining communication and fostering collaboration.¹ Imaging technologies, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and Optical computed tomography (OCT), granted us the ability to view internal structures using non-invasive methods. In a similar vein, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as an impactful force in various fields of medicine, and its influence on ophthalmology is no exception.

Overview of Keratoplasty The evolution of corneal transplantation, or keratoplasty, has seen a paradigm shift from traditional penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) to the refined precision of lamellar keratoplasty (LK). Penetrating, or full thickness, keratoplasty is a replacement of all corneal layers: epithelium, Bowman's layer, stroma, Descemet's membrane, and endothelium.¹ Lamellar, or partial thickness, keratoplasty involves replacement of either epithelium and stroma (anterior lamellar) or Descemet’s membrane and endothelium (posterior lamellar).² From 1985 to 2004, over 95% of graft tissues were used for PKP. TRAAK, TREK-1, and TREK-2 are mechanosensitive two-pore domain K+ (K2P) channels that contribute to action potential propagation, sensory transduction, and muscle contraction. While structural and functional studies have led to models that explain their mechanosensitivity, we lack a quantitative understanding of channel activation by membrane tension. Here, we define the tension response of mechanosensitive K2Ps using patch-clamp recording and imaging. All are low-threshold mechanosensitive channels (T10%/50% 0.6-2.7 / 4.4-6.4 mN/m) with distinct response profiles. TRAAK is most sensitive, TREK-1 intermediate, and TREK-2 least sensitive. This doctoral capstone project was completed through partnership with GiGi’s Playhouse - Nashville, a non-profit organization offering free programming and services to individuals of all ages with Down syndrome and their families. The focus of this project was to develop and implement programming for GiGi Achievers, an adult education program, in the areas of money management, physical health and wellness, cooking, communication, and daily life skills. The results were physical and digital materials to be used for future adult education programming modified to address participant and caregiver feedback. The application of life cycle assessment (LCA) to biorefineries is a necessary step to estimate their environmental sustainability. This review explores contemporary LCA biorefinery studies, across different feedstock categories, to understand approaches in dealing with key methodological decisions which arise, including system boundaries, consequential or attributional approach, allocation, inventory data, land use changes, product end-of-life (EOL), biogenic carbon storage, impact assessment and use of uncertainty analysis. From an initial collection of 81 studies, 59 were included within the final analysis, comprising 22 studies which involved dedicated feedstocks, 34 which involved residue feedstocks (including by-products and wastes), and a further 3 …

In recent years, the use of technology has evolved in correctional facilities which may result in more vulnerabilities in correctional facilities systems. This study analyzes the types of security measures used in correctional facilities to stop cyber attacks such as firewalls, artificial intelligence, and facial recognition systems. The analysis also examines new challenges correctional facilities may face in cyber security and prevention strategies that will enhance cyber protection in correctional facilities. Additionally, this analysis compares the implementation of cyber security methods between jails and prisons.

This improvement science dissertation in practice (ISDiP) investigated the influence of universal design for learning (UDL) on student engagement and motivation in middle school classrooms at a K–8 school in Northern California. The plan-do-study-act (PDSA) framework examined the potential of UDL practices in the context of a Diocesan-wide professional development initiative and assessed if teachers’ deliberate integrations of UDL strategies contributed to enhanced student engagement and motivation. The study navigated nuances of transitions to UDL practices, observing teachers as they attempted to implement strategies while students participated in UDL lessons. Cannabis use disorder (CUD) is increasingly prevalent in the United States, but there is no effective pharmacological means to treat it. The endocannabinoid (eCB) system has emerged as a candidate therapeutic target demonstrating some evidence of efficacy in treating CUD. However, clinical trials evaluating eCB-modulating therapeutics have historically undervalued individual differences that could contribute to variation in treatment outcome (e.g. sex, comorbid psychiatric illness).
