Introduction

Depression affects 1 in 5 individuals during their lifetime (Hidalgo et al., 2021), with 23 million Americans seeking mental health treatment annually (Parish et al., 2023). While guidelines from the AAFP and APA advocate comprehensive care approaches, medication prescriptions for anxiety and depression remain prevalent, particularly among children aged 6-18 (Lester et al., 2022). Direct observation identified a need to bridge gaps in adjunctive therapies between the primary care setting and counseling services for patients who presented with mild or mild to moderate anxiety or depression. Starting in 2021, college athletes could earn financial compensation from their name, image, and likeness (“NIL”). With the change in laws, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (“NCAA”) created an interim regulation for states to follow. After the Supreme Court decision, some states’ trigger laws went into effect, some states made new NIL regulations, and some states continued to follow the regulation set out by the NCAA. With all these laws and no federal regulation, each state stands on different footing. In Texas, a restrictive NIL statute will affect its recruiting for years unless adjusted. Property rights are traditionally held sacred in Texas. But through eminent domain, landowners lose their property rights, purportedly in service of the broader public. Sometimes, the legislature confers eminent domain power on for-profit companies. Landowners are then forced to surrender their property while the companies benefit economically. The result is that landowners are stripped of the right to fully use and enjoy their property.

The recent Texas Supreme Court case, Miles v. Texas Central Railroad & Infrastructure, Inc., demonstrates the tension between property rights and economic development created by eminent domain. Facially, Miles concerns whether a for-profit company’s high-speed …

This research presents a critical analysis and original theoretical approach to a complex phenomenon that addresses current gaps in our understanding of the experiences of nurse executives and their organizational positioning in homecare organizations. It reveals how nurse executives experience paradoxical identities of executive and nurse. The competitiveness of homecare as a business and the status of homecare among other healthcare sectors is problematic and exacerbates the tension between those two identities. Our forefathers intended the United States Bill of Rights to protect individuals from government overreach. Specifically, the Fifth Amendment, as applied to the States via the Fourteenth Amendment, in part protects individuals from unnecessary takings. Eminent domain authority—its more common name—has long been recognized as a power to be used cautiously and only when necessary. The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) enzyme plays a critical role in governing the cell cycle, positioning it as a promising target for the development of anticancer drugs. In this study, we endeavored to design and synthesize innovative EGFR inhibitors with potential applications in anticancer therapy. A novel series of compounds, namely 3-(4-(4-(1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)-1H-imidazol-2-yl)phenyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazoles (30a-j), were meticulously designed using FBDD efforts and synthesized. The synthesized compounds underwent thorough characterization using ¹HNMR, ¹³CNMR, HRMS, and mass spectrum analyses. The last few years have seen an increase in interest in indoor positioning and localization as potential research and development areas. WiFi is a strong substitute that supports positioning based on indoor floor plans. In this thesis, the Principal Featured - Kohonen Deep Structure (PF-KDS) model is developed to position WiFi devices more accurately and efficiently for indoor floor planning. Initially, spatial data analysis is conducted using the Principal Feature Enhanced Auto-Encoder algorithm, extracting principal features for dimensionality reduction.

Within the operating room (OR), the ability to identify deteriorating patient conditions and effectively communicate, is essential to delivering safe and efficient care. Although rare, the critical nature of emergent events necessitates early recognition and prompt intervention by an experienced anesthesia provider. The complexity of emergency management is often related to diagnostic ambiguity, individual provider experience, and disruptions of the fast-paced OR environment, requiring appropriate training methods for proficient execution. This doctoral capstone project was completed through partnership with Rock Steady Boxing Music City, a non-profit organization that provides boxing classes for individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and other motor-related disorders. The purpose of this project was to understand the participatory barriers that are common within the Parkinson’s disease community and develop solution-oriented resources in response to these barriers. All developed resources were intentionally created to maximize accessibility and explored areas such as driving, fatigue, caregiving, and memory. This doctoral capstone project was completed through a partnership with the residential department of the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Homes, a state-wide ministry that cares for children whose families are in crisis. There were two primary focuses for this project: (1) providing sensory integration education to house parents and (2) creating tools to ease transitions. Outcomes included a presentation and training on sensory integration, a booklet with easily accessible sensory integration information, a local activity guide for day visits with families, and a routine schedule of home visits to ease transitions.

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a life-threatening autoimmune disease where the immune system destroys the insulin producing beta-cells in the pancreas. There is no cure for the disease, and the current treatment involves life-long, daily injection of insulin. An ideal therapy for T1D will be the suppression of autoimmunity and increased functional beta-cell mass. The immune regulatory cytokine IL10 can suppress inflammation in various autoimmune diseases. On the other hand, several growth factors and peptide hormones are known to promote an increase in beta-cell mass, through neogenesis and beta-cell proliferation.
