Tiktok’s research API allows users to send HTTP requests to TikTok and receive responses as JSON data. These HTTP requests can be tedious to write and send, as well as the response data being raw and unorganized. This project consists of a python program that works with Tiktok’s research API. It provides an easy to use interface that takes simple information about the data the user wants, and then generates and runs the HTTP requests. It then automatically downloads the JSON Response data cleaned up and ready to use for research.

Implementation methods included building a 3D-printed forearm, writing a Python program with OpenCV and MediaPipe to read the webcam footage and give the Arduino Uno a command sequence with five binary values depending on if the fingers were determined to be opened, which is the value ‘1’, or closed which is the value is '0' and writing a C++ program to read the given binary values from the Python program to cause each finger motor to close or open the finger. The Student-Athlete Success Center for D1 athletes at Sacred Heart University maintains a library for student-athletes to check out textbooks for free, making it easier for them to obtain course materials. Currently, the Pitt Library is managed through a paper-based system, resulting in a multitude of complications such as inaccurate tracking and missing inventory. The work-study platform will allow those working at the library to add and remove books, check books in and out of the library, and monitor and update the condition of the books. Metaphors are linguistically interesting because they involve going beyond literal interpretation. For example, “night owl” can refer to an animal or a person who is active at night. Psycholinguistic researchers investigating metaphor comprehension must develop sets of stimuli (linguistic items used in experiments) that include metaphors and literal items as a baseline. One approach is to use metaphorical word pairs, because it lets researchers control several important variables, including how frequent words are within the language. The Great South Bay (GSB), a bar-built, temperate, coastal lagoon on the south shore of Long Island, New York, USA, is a highly modified estuary due to heavy urbanization and suburbanization in the last century. GSB historically provided up to 50% of the nation’s hard clam (Mercenaria mercenaria) harvest, and is the legal home of the “Blue Point” oyster (eastern oyster; Crassostrea virginica). Recent studies have shown mixed results on whether substance use has increased in college students over the course of the Coronavirus pandemic. This study surveyed 115 undergraduate students at a largely commuter college in the suburban northeast. The data suggested that mental health issues increased since before the pandemic, while alcohol use has largely stayed the same over the course of the pandemic. Continued research in diverse college settings is needed on this important topic.

PTSD is a psychiatric disorder that results after a person experiences trauma that causes serious negative neurological, biological, and physiological effects. Due to these effects, people with PTSD often seek help by going to many forms of therapy that dramatically resolve their symptoms, even more than pharmaceutical drugs. If the effects from PTSD were caused through traumatic events and can be cured through interactive therapies and treatments that involve mental and physical strengthening even without the help of pharmaceutical drugs, other physical ailments can be influenced by these treatments as well.

This disclosure describes techniques for detection of the breathing state of a user. Per techniques of this disclosure, nasal cannula based temperature measurements from a wearable device worn by a user are utilized to detect a breathing state of the user. The nasal cannula includes a temperature sensor that measures temperature of the air in the nostril. The temperature is converted to a breathing rate level which is analyzed to determine the breathing state of the user. Regions of low slope are indicative of the user holding their breath. This disclosure describes a nose clip integrated with a nasal cannula that includes components that enable measurement of biological parameters. The nasal cannula and nose clip can together be utilized to perform measurements of breathing state and other biological parameters of the wearing user. Global Analysis Of Human Population Density And Blue Carbon Stocks In Mangrove Soils, Shih-Chieh Chien, Charles Knoble, Jennifer Adams Krumins

Recent research highlights the decline in blue carbon within mangrove ecosystems due to anthropogenic pressures. We investigate the impact of human population density on soil carbon stocks in urban mangrove forests to assess their contribution to the global carbon budget. Conducting a global analysis, we compile mangrove soil carbon data and calculate population density using European Commission records. Findings reveal a negative correlation between population density and mangrove soil carbon stocks. Specifically, when population density exceeds 300 people km−2, soil carbon decreases by 37% compared to isolated mangrove forests. However, accounting for climatic variables diminishes this negative relationship, rendering it …

Indigenous populations are disproportionately affected by both environmental pollution and health disparities resulting in mortality rates 60% higher than their white counterparts. Previous research has revealed instances of pollution from facilities which have caused severe health issues in Indigenous communities. Despite this, widespread geographic studies of the spatial correlation between Environmental Justice (EJ) and Indigenous populations remain lacking. This chapter examines whether Indigenous people in the northeastern United States are inequitably burdened by contamination. I find that Indigenous people are disproportionately exposed to 21 superfund contaminants, regardless of state or federal recognition. The sources of these contaminants varied, ranging from …
