Gen Zers And Millennials Are Still Big Fans Of Books – Even If They Don’T Call Themselves ‘Readers’, Kathi Inman Berens, Rachel Noorda

English Faculty Publications and Presentations

Identifying with an activity is different from actually doing it. For example, 49% of Americans play video games, but only 10% identify as gamers. According to a recent survey we conducted, there’s also a small gap between reading activity and identity for younger readers: 61% of Generation Z and millennials have read a print book, e-book or audiobook in the past 12 months, but only 57% identify as readers.

And yet there was a puzzling aspect of our results: The 43% of Gen Z and millennials who didn’t identify as readers actually said they read more print books per month …

Under Sundanese Eyes; Raden Ajoe Abdoerachman’S Journey To Europe, Atep Kurnia

Wacana, Journal of the Humanities of Indonesia

This article examines the travel account written by Raden Ajoe Abdoerachman, the wife of a senior native official, the Regent of Meester Cornelis (Jatinegara), Raden Aria Abdoerachman, who, with his family, was sent at the expense of the colonial government to the Netherlands to study agricultural practices in 1928. The account shows the colonial subject’s admiration for and mimicry of European behaviour and practices, but occasional ironic comments show her ambivalence towards some institutions in the Netherlands while at the same time she also criticises unfair representations of Indonesia.

Mapping Quaking Aspen Using Seasonal Sentinel-1 And Sentinel-2 Composite Imagery Across The Southern Rockies, Usa, Maxwell Cook, Teresa Chapman, Sarah Hart, Asha Paudel, Jennifer Balch

Aspen Bibliography

Quaking aspen is an important deciduous tree species across interior western U.S. forests. Existing maps of aspen distribution are based on Landsat imagery and often miss small stands ( < 0.09 ha or 30 m2), which rapidly regrow when managed or following disturbance. In this study, we present methods for deriving a new regional map of aspen forests using one year of Sentinel-1 (S1) and Sentinel-2 (S2) imagery in Google Earth Engine. Using observed annual phenology of aspen across the Southern Rockies and leveraging the frequent temporal resolution of S1 and S2, ecologically relevant seasonal imagery composites were developed. We derived spectral indices and …

Makeup Revolution: How Makeup Changed From The “Ideal Woman To The Redefinition Of The Standard Of Makeup”, Kellie Solomon Apr 2024

Makeup Revolution: How Makeup Changed From The “Ideal Woman To The Redefinition Of The Standard Of Makeup”, Kellie Solomon

Theses and Dissertations

For women, makeup became a mask that was forced upon them and could never be taken off. A woman’s main job was to remain at home, and while this development wasn’t new at this time, it became more common. Cosmetic advertisements would make money off of every woman’s insecurities by starting at an age where they are impressionable only to sell products that may or not work. My goal with this essay was to establish a timeline of makeup’s impact on society that eventually broke down into what is more common for today’s makeup wearers. This endeavor began with women …

Algorithms For Structural Synthesis Of Control Systems For Dynamic Objects Under Conditions Of Unmeasurable Disturbances, Husan Zakirovich Igamberdiev, Uktam Farkhodovich Mamirov, Bunyod Mamurjon Ugli Buronov Apr 2024

Algorithms For Structural Synthesis Of Control Systems For Dynamic Objects Under Conditions Of Unmeasurable Disturbances, Husan Zakirovich Igamberdiev, Uktam Farkhodovich Mamirov, Bunyod Mamurjon Ugli Buronov

Chemical Technology, Control and Management

The paper talks about ways to use inverse dynamic models to structure a control system for moving objects when disturbances are not measured. To solve the main problems that arise when implementing the inverse dynamic model method, methods for synthesizing inverse systems with given dynamic characteristics are used. The solution to this problem is obtained based on the theory that dynamic observers are invariant to unmeasured input influences. We broke down the matrix operator on the right into elementary orthogonal rotation matrices and on the left into permutation matrices to get a stable answer to the equation of the current …

Features Of Magnetoelastic Converters Of Mechanical Quantities Of Transformer Type, Sulton Amirov, Kamila Jurayeva Apr 2024

Features Of Magnetoelastic Converters Of Mechanical Quantities Of Transformer Type, Sulton Amirov, Kamila Jurayeva

Chemical Technology, Control and Management

The article discusses the features of a magnetoelastic transformer type transducer. In magnetoelastic transformer-type transducers, mutual inductance is assumed as a variable value, which is a function of the value of the applied mechanical force. Hence, the transformation coefficients of such converters are also variable. There are also choke type converters in which a change in the magnetic permeability of the magnetic circuit leads to a change in the total electrical resistance of the choke. For further research, transformer-type converters were selected, which make it possible to widely implement techniques for improving basic characteristics.
