Implementation And Numerical Simulation On Object-Oriented Elastic-Plastic Finite Element Method Based On Python, Henghui Li, Yingxiong Xiao

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: With the continuous expansion of the application fields of finite element methods, higher requirements are put forward for the scalability of finite element methods. In order to overcome the defects of the traditional finite element methods, a simple and easily extensible object-oriented elasticplastic finite element program framework is proposed based on Python. Combined with the characteristics of Python, we design some finite element classes such as the pre-processing class, the post-processing class, the linear solution class, the stress integration class and the analysis class. By applying the resulting framework to several typical elastic-plastic mechanical problems and comparing the results …

Building Moral Character Through “Catholic Athletes For Christ’S Program” At The Diocese Of Trenton, New Jersey, Neiser Cardenas

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

The tendency to care more for the business than the human being has increased the problem of unethical conduct in sports. Catholic schools, along with their limited resources, have worked over the last few decades to be better organized, more competitive academically, and more focused on social and moral responsibility. Unsportsmanlike behaviors go against the teachings and values of the Roman Catholic Church, so Catholic schools have the mission to minimize the problem.

This qualitative study explored whether combining sports activity and teaching Christian virtues could help student-athletes reduce unsportsmanlike behaviors. This study aimed to identify the success factors that …

Intervening For A Better Social Life? A Comparative Analysis Of Psychological Egoism And Aristotle As Alternate Foundations For Applied Social Psychology's Aims, Samuel D. Major May 2024

Intervening For A Better Social Life? A Comparative Analysis Of Psychological Egoism And Aristotle As Alternate Foundations For Applied Social Psychology's Aims, Samuel D. Major

Theses and Dissertations

The scientific aim which distinguishes applied social psychological research from basic social psychological research is that of using social psychological theory to develop interventions meant to rectify social and practical problems in hopes of fostering a flourishing or thriving social sphere. In developing their interventions, however, many applied social psychologists have failed to consider their pre-investigatory philosophical commitments, commitments which imply the kind of flourishing social life that may come as a result of interventions rooted in them. The aim of this dissertation is to invite applied social psychologists to consider if their frequently noted, yet often unexamined, commitment to …

Novel Tetrazolium-Based Colorimetric Assay For Helicase Nsp13 In Sars-Cov-2, Triet M. Pham, Morgan G. Howard, Shane M. Carey, Lindsey R. Baker, Edward L. D'Antonio

Natural Sciences Faculty Publications

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a human pathogenic virus that encodes for a helicase (SC2Hel) that is essential for viral replication. SC2Hel has the ability to unravel dsRNA or dsDNA in an NTP-dependent manner from the 5′ to 3′ directionality. The standard helicase assay from studies involving SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2 have relied on the concept of fluorescence resonance energy transfer. Adding to the collection of helicase assays, herein, we have developed a novel tetrazolium-based colorimetric assay system for the detection of ADP that is produced via SC2Hel activity. This SC2Hel assay combines three enzyme-coupled steps involving the …

Hierarchical Guided Enhanced Multi-Objective Firefly Algorithm, Jia Zhao, Zhizhen Lai, Runxiu Wu, Zhihua Cui, Hui Wang

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: The multi-objective firefly algorithm is easy to produce oscillation and aggregation phenomenon in the solution process, which leads to weak development ability and poor solution accuracy. This paper proposes a hierarchical guided enhanced multi-objective firefly algorithm (HGEMOFA). HGEMOFA builds a hierarchical guidance model, uses non-dominated sorting to obtain different levels of individuals. The individuals in the dominant layer are used to guide the evolution of the individuals in the inferior layer, the guidance direction is clear, the oscillation in the evolution process is solved, the aggregation phenomenon is reduced, and the convergence of the algorithm is enhanced. The Lévy …

Reducing Delirium In Post-Surgical Patients Through Pre-Operative Risk Assessment Screening: A Policy Option, Skye Porter Berg Msn, Fnp

Doctor of Nursing Practice Final Manuscripts

One of the major complications and reasons for prolonged stay amongst patients who undergo surgery is related to the occurrence of hospital associated delirium. Unfamiliar environment, previous comorbidities, age and anesthesia can alter and affect cognitive status in the general population. While there is substantial evidence previously listing high risk patients through demographics as well as prior medical history, this study collectively gathers information based upon prior evidence-based practice data to determine the benefit of prescreening patients through use of a predictive indicator tool. Based on the literature review and inclusion data gathered from fifty patients undergoing surgery, it was …

Embodied Visions: Interactive Installations That Reimagine Bodily Presence In Digital Imaging Apparatuses As Shadows, Yunzi Shi May 2024

Embodied Visions: Interactive Installations That Reimagine Bodily Presence In Digital Imaging Apparatuses As Shadows, Yunzi Shi

Dartmouth College Master’s Theses

Contextualized within a history of technological development, the evolution of imaging devices and technologies is accompanied by the abstraction of spatial relationships between the body of the observer, the apparatus, and physical reality, which leads to disembodying experiences for the observing subject. Compared with devices and interactive experiences, critical reflection on the epistemological impact of digital imaging devices has less priority in computational imaging and human-computer interaction research. Taking an artistic approach, this thesis describes Embodied Visions, an exhibition featuring three interactive installations exploring the technical infrastructure for imaging and reflecting on the (dis)embodied experiences in the digital age. …
