Pediatric Body Mass Index (Bmi) And Distal Radius Fracture Incidence, Jessica Avila, Tyler Hough, Nikalus Skipp, Amber L. West, Deana Mercer May 2024

Pediatric Body Mass Index (Bmi) And Distal Radius Fracture Incidence, Jessica Avila, Tyler Hough, Nikalus Skipp, Amber L. West, Deana Mercer

Western Journal of Orthopaedics

Background: The authors postulate that obesity in children increases the risk of distal radius fracture compared to children who are not obese. Because it is difficult to determine the population at risk, the authors observed the inverse of the rate of obesity in pediatric patients with distal radius fractures in an attempt to determine if there was a difference compared to national data on frequency of obesity in the pediatric population in general. If the rate of obesity was greater in distal radius fractures than the overall population, this would constitute evidence that obesity may increase the risk of distal …

Mobile devices (e.g., tablets and smartphones) have been rapidly integrated into the lives of children and have impacted howchildren engage with digital media. The portability of these devices allows for sporadic, on-demand interaction, reducing theaccuracy of self-report estimates of mobile device use. Passive sensing applications objectively monitor time spent on a givendevice but are unable to identify who is using the device, a significant limitation in child screen time research. Behavioralbiometric authentication, using embedded mobile device sensors to continuously authenticate users, could be applied toaddress this limitation. This study examined the preliminary accuracy of machine learning models trained on iPad …

A Warning Method For Low‑Voltage Electrical Safety Hazard Based On Multi‑Dimensional Features And Random Forests, Xiangqi Xiao, Junhua Hu, Zhi Ye, Wenxian Wu, Yujian Luo, Sheng Zou, Chen Luo

Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology

As a common safety hazard in low-voltage electricity use, fault arcs are difficult to perceive effectively on the eve of failure due to their concealment and randomness. Existing protection methods usually take measures after the occurrence of faults, which can easily cause electrical fires. To address these issues, a warning method for low-voltage electrical safety hazard is proposed on basis of multi-dimensional features and random forests. Next, a random forest model is built and hyper-parameters are optimized, with the goal of minimizing node information entropy to complete model training, so that enhances the overall performance and learning efficiency of the …

Impact Of New Energy Access On Regional System Frequency Stability And Unit Improvement Control Strategy, Lin Cheng, Jili Wang, Zhiyong Han, Xianbo Ke, Dongping Ai, Wenfeng Li

Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology

The new energy access ratio has rapidly increased in recent years, leading to increasingly prominent frequency stability issues in regional power grids. Therefore, this article studies the relationship between access ratio and frequency stability and proposes an improved control strategy for hydropower and thermal power-dominated frequency regulation. The analysis shows that as the access ratio increases, the equivalent inertia of the regional power grid decreases, and the equivalent power-frequency regulation ability decreases, resulting in a decrease in the static, dynamic, and transient frequency stability of the hydroelectric-dominated regional power grid; This leads to a decrease in the static and transient …

Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology

To improve the accuracy of electricity price forecasting and the stability of forecasting models, a short-term electricity price forecasting method based on improved VMD-PSO-CNN-LSTM is proposed. Firstly, after studying the correlation between variational mode decomposition(VMD) and the influencing factors of electricity prices, and introducing the maximum information coefficient, a parameter optimization model for VMD is constructed. Secondly, convolutional neural networks(CNN) and long short-term memory(LSTM) neural networks are used to predict the modal components obtained by VMD decomposition. As for the convolution in CNN, a extraction structure with multi-scale convolution feature is constructed, on the basis of the depth-wise separable convolution …

Secure Scheduling Method Of Main Network For Large‑Scale Wind Power Waist‑Load Access, Wei Zhu, Ziqi Yang, Junhui Qi, Wei Xiao, Yingjie Tang

Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology

The large fluctuation of wind power and the poor accuracy of day-ahead prediction lead to the contradiction between large-scale wind power accommodation and grid security robustness. An automatic frequency modulation scheduling method for wind power "waist load" output access is proposed to reduce wind curtailment and improve the online security of the main network under large fluctuations of wind power. Firstly, to improve the convergence of neural network for day-ahead wind power prediction, a multi-sample data preprocessing method based on singular value decomposition of time series matrix is proposed. Secondly, in order to obtain the output plan curve of waist …

Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology

The layout about pressure plate of relay protection devices is gradually changing towards simplicity and standardization, which objectively provides conditions for intelligent inspection of the pressure plate. However, due to the actual scene, it is often impossible to provide pressure plate images with sufficient size and resolution for pressure plate recognition. To this end, a method based on image enhancement and deep neural network for target recognition is proposed to recognize pressure plate images with low resolution. The image enhancement network uses collaborative learning signals from the target recognition network to enhance extremely low-resolution images into clearer and more informative …

Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology

The distribution of wind energy is uneven, and improving the assessment method of wind energy resource characteristics to enhance its accuracy and comprehensiveness is crucial for wind farm construction and efficient use of wind energy. A modeling method is proposed for the joint probability distribution of wind speed and wind direction based on a binary exponential polynomial. The parameters of the binary exponential polynomial of this model are solved by using linear least squares. A normalization constant is added to make the binary exponential polynomial satisfy the characteristics of the probability density function. It combines multiple goodness-of-fit index functions to …

Research On Inertia Coordinated Control Strategy Of Multiple Vsg Cells, Shiyang Rong, Hui Fan, Jifeng Liang, Tengkai Yu, Tiecheng Li, Jiamin Liu

Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology

In large-scale photovoltaic grid-connected systems, multiple virtual synchronous generator (VSG) units are often used to coordinate and provide virtual inertia for the grid. However, the unreasonable distribution of virtual inertia will lead to poor system frequency response and source-end vulnerability in actual operation. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an inertia coordination control strategy for hybrid optical storage multiple VSG cells. By using the membership function, the strategy converts three indicators of the state of charge of the energy storage unit, i.e., the adjustable power of the converter and the adjustable power of the energy storage charge and discharge, …

Design Of Multi-Objective Optimization Algorithms For Vlsi Floor Planning, Srinivasan B May 2024

Design Of Multi-Objective Optimization Algorithms For Vlsi Floor Planning, Srinivasan B

Theses and Dissertations

VLSI floorplanning is a key design step that determines the optimal placement of circuit modules to minimize chip area, wire length, and heat generation. Existing swarm intelligence–based metaheuristics improve area and wire length but often ignore thermal effects.

To address this, the Multi-Objective Firefly Optimization–based Floorplanning (MOFO-FP) technique is introduced, using a Heat-Aware Firefly Optimization (HAFO) algorithm that minimizes heat, space, and wire length under fixed outline constraints. Each firefly represents a floorplan, with brightness indicating solution quality; dimmer fireflies move toward brighter ones to find optimal placements.

A second method, the Hybridized Multicriteria Ant Colony and …

Who’S Afraid Of Diversity, Equity, And Inclusion Statements In Faculty Hiring And Promotion At California Universities?, Matthew W. Babb

Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review

In 1996, California banned affirmative action in both state employment and state education. This ban extends to California’s universities, which are therefore prohibited from using race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in faculty hiring and promotion as well as student admissions. As a result, California’s universities have had to think of alternative ways to improve the diversity of their faculty and students. One solution many California universities have adopted is to ask applicants for faculty positions or promotions to submit a statement describing their approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion. However, the use of diversity, equity, and inclusion statements …

Why We Should Stop Talking About Violent Offenders: Storytelling And Decarceration, Mira Edmonds May 2024

Why We Should Stop Talking About Violent Offenders: Storytelling And Decarceration, Mira Edmonds

Articles

The movement to decarcerate risks foundering because of its failure to grapple with so-called violent offenders, who make up nearly half of U.S. prisoners. The treatment of people serving sentences for offenses categorized as violent is a primary reason for the continued problem of mass incarceration, despite widespread awareness of the phenomenon and significant bipartisan interest in its reduction. People convicted of “violent offenses” are serving historically anomalous and excessively long sentences, are generally denied clemency and compassionate release, and are excluded from a wide array of legal reform and policy changes with decarceral aims. Keeping these people in prison …

Morgan V. Sundance: A Legal Overview Of The Prejudice Requirement In Arbitration And Its Impact On Litigation, Sergio Fernandez

University of Dayton Law Review

Since the enactment of the Federal Arbitration Act (“FAA”) in 1925, arbitration clauses have been embedded in the commercial contractual ambit and have been a predominant tool employed not only in transactions between corporations, but most importantly between corporations and individuals. Arbitration is a tool used in both the public and private sector to resolve disputes without channeling the usual litigation route. Arbitration, like other forms of alternative dispute resolution (“ADR”), has attributes beneficial to the disputing parties. It “reduces the judiciary’s workload and reduces litigation costs, allowing companies to offer lower prices and higher wages.” It is known to …

Study Of Graphene P-N Junctions Formed By The Electrostatic Modification Of The Sio Substrate, Tharanga R. Nanayakkara, U Kushan Wijewardena, Annika Kriisa, Ramesh G. Mani

Faculty and Staff Works

We study the transport properties of mm-scale CVD graphene p-n junctions, which are formed in a single gated graphene field effect transistor configuration. Here, an electrical-stressing-voltage technique served to modify the electrostatic potential in the SiO/Si substrate and create the p-n junction. We examine the transport characteristics about the Dirac points that are localized in the perturbed and unperturbed regions in the graphene channel and note the quantitative differences in the Hall effect between the perturbed and unperturbed regions. The results also show that the longitudinal resistance is highly sensitive to the external magnetic field when the Hall bar device …
