Mathematical Modeling Of An Epidemic In Scale-Free Network With Imperfect Vaccination, Heba Hameed Jun 2024

Mathematical Modeling Of An Epidemic In Scale-Free Network With Imperfect Vaccination, Heba Hameed

Thesis/ Dissertation Defenses

In light of the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the mathematical epidemiological model has proven to be essential for understanding the disease dynamic and finding the best control tool to help contain the disease and minimize its impact. This thesis investigates the dynamics of an infectious disease spread with latent infection and vaccination. The aim is to study this model's dynamic in a network that reflects the heterogeneity of the environment where the disease spreads. The vaccination is assumed to be not perfect, which means that vaccinated persons are likely to be infected and that the vaccinated person could lose their immunity, …

Let Us Fail: Speculative Futures And Digital Librarianship, Natalia Estrada, Kristina Bush, Stacy Snyder

Journal of Critical Digital Librarianship

Let Us Fail explores what digital librarianship work might look like if digital library workers were not tied to the technology, infrastructure, or work culture of academia that we currently experience. We explore what work could look like if we were given the agency to play and be creative, support to learn from failure, and freedom from traditional assessment metrics. This podcast dreams about a future in which digital library workers are self-directed, autonomous workers with the capacity to explore, experiment, and iterate.

Covidisation And Patient Safety Competence Among Filipino Nursing Students: The Mediating Role Of Health Consciousness, Angelica S. Abilong, Codyvann Rodge L. Arcega, Dominique Chiel R. Salonga, Julianne Ryce T. Uy

DLSU Senior High School Research Congress

Patient safety enables healthcare workers (HCW) to avoid adverse events in a clinical setting, which is vital for medical students developing related competencies. This is especially critical for nurses, given their role in delivering healthcare. However, the COVID-19 outbreak impacted their day-to-day routines and lifestyles, causing various social and psychological implications for HCWs, particularly nursing students. Following a modified version of Nola Pender’s Health promotion model, this study aims to examine the relationship between the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, termed ‘covidisation’, on the patient safety competencies of Filipino nursing students and how health consciousness mediates the relationship. A convenience …

Desire Paths In The Information Landscape, Victoria Van Hyning, Mason A. Jones, Travis Wagner Jun 2024

Desire Paths In The Information Landscape, Victoria Van Hyning, Mason A. Jones, Travis Wagner

Journal of Critical Digital Librarianship

Libraries and archives serve so many different users who come to information institutions with various perspectives, needs, experiences, and desires around accessing physical or digital collections. While our users may find what they are looking for immediately, many have to beat their own paths through complex systems and metadata that doesn’t align with their needs. Their search strategies may leave digital “desire paths”–alternative routes through the information landscape that can show us how to better meet their needs. This article covers three scenarios where users’ desire paths can be seen or where gaps around user experience can be better addressed. …

Earthlings saw a gap in the Philippine sustainable jewelry market, prompting them to offer earrings made of recycled HDPE plastic at an affordable price. Established in September 2023 by five senior high school students at De La Salle University-Manila, the brand has undergone thorough product development supplemented by market research to honor its commitment to delivering quality pieces. Although there are established sustainable jewelry brands like Karisma ni Maria and Minea’s Pieces, their products may not be affordable for other market groups, especially the younger demographic. Therefore, by setting a low ceiling price of Php 249.00, which seasonally drops to …

Development Of Highly Efficient Hybrid-Functionalized Membranes For Sustainable Water Harvesting, Ahmed Abuibaid

Thesis/ Dissertation Defenses

Water scarcity has emerged as a critical global challenge. This problem catches the world interest by events such as the severe drought in Europe during the summer of 2022. While desalination plants offer a solution, their high energy consumption necessitates the exploration of alternative, sustainable water resources. Addressing the urgent need for alternative water resources in the face of increasing water scarcity. A viable option was presented by fog harvesting. Which is a method to collect water from atmospheric fog. This method was initially developed to meet the demands of varieties of sectors such as agricultural purposes, household used and …

The text’s exercises helped motivate our steps through the writing process and developed productive writing habits for publication. This article is a critique of the book which helped us face and overcome our fears of writing with the intention to publish academic scholarship. The workbook …

Environmental health is directly linked to human health and societal growth; it is a significant threat to humanity and a major contributor to illness and mortality. In response to these issues, photocatalysis is becoming a trend in the pursuit of the abatement of environmental threats as it is a promising approach to the destruction of contaminants. This study aimed to develop concrete with admixtures of TiO2 and Corncob Activated Carbon (CAC) and to determine its potential for photocatalysis through the investigation of morphology and durability. Results showed that in terms of morphology, the Scanning Electron Microscopy showed that the concrete …

Proper housing is vital for sustainable environments and for an individual’s well-being — providing security, emotional stability, and a sense of belonging. However, the Philippines faces challenges in providing affordable shelter, especially as it has remained in the lower-middle income bracket alongside other Southeast Asian countries for over three decades. Bonifacio Global City (BGC) stands as Metro Manila’s premier business district and contributes to the affordability for housing in the country. This study focuses on the affordability of studio-type condominiums in BGC for working-class Millennials aged 28-43. Conducted through quantitative research methods and a descriptive design, it employed snowball and …
