BACKGROUND: Adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs) have been linked with cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) in high-income countries, but evidence from low-income countries like Haiti is limited.

OBJECTIVES: The authors investigated the cross-sectional association between APO and prevalent CVD using the Haiti CVD Cohort.

METHODS: This analysis included all female participants who completed a reproductive health questionnaire at their annual visit, which captured detailed pregnancy history. We analyzed the relationship between APO and prevalent CVD (defined as heart failure, myocardial infarction, or stroke, as a composite outcome and separately) on enrollment using Poisson regression models, adjusted for traditional risk factors.

Ovarian sex steroid hormones play a critical role in regulating fertility. In addition, these hormones influence behavior and mood across the lifespan in females. Converging evidence from rodent studies and human neuroimaging shows that ovarian hormones dynamically regulate neuronal excitability, synaptic efficacy, and structural remodeling across menstrual/estrous cycles, puberty, and reproductive aging. Estrogen and progesterone reorganize network dynamics and gate plasticity eligibility rather than uniformly scaling synaptic strength, with additional contributions from glia, the extracellular matrix, and neurosteroid signaling. BACKGROUND: Alcohol consumption is associated with colorectal cancer (CRC) risk, yet its association with distinct molecular subtypes remains unclear. Clarifying this could reveal insights into alcohol's carcinogenic mechanisms.

PURPOSE: Current functional assessments after brachial plexus (BP) reconstruction, including surgeon-graded active range of motion and strength scores, and patient-reported outcomes (PROs), have limitations. This study evaluated the feasibility of wearable sensors to quantify recovery and functional outcomes following BP reconstruction. We hypothesized that sensor-derived measures of daily upper-extremity use would correlate with PROs and that real-world upper-extremity use would improve.

While most gastrointestinal stromal tumors are driven by oncogenic mutations in KIT or PDGFRA, 10-15% exhibit functional loss of the succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) complex and genome-wide DNA hypermethylation. Excess methylation in SDH-deficient gastrointestinal stromal tumors disrupts genomic insulators, inducing aberrant expression of oncogenic ligands FGF3, FGF4, and activating an autocrine signaling loop mediated through FGFR1. Drip irrigation can be the most efficient method for delivering water and has the added benefit of keeping moisture off foliage and blooms of cut flowers. This fact sheet is the first in a series of irrigation fact sheets for cut flowers. It provides a step-by-step guide to the initial selection and installation of a surface drip tape irrigation system. Descriptions of and considerations for common components, setup, management, and repair are discussed. The Shark Bay Invertebrate Resource (Resource) is accessed by three managed commercial fisheries; the Shark Bay Prawn Managed Fishery (SBPMF), the Shark Bay Scallop Managed Fishery (SBSMF) and the Shark Bay Blue Swimmer Crab Managed Fishery (SBCMF). Additionally, blue swimmer crabs are taken by recreational fishers through a variety of methods, though the overall level of boat-based catch is relatively low (~ 7.8 t). The SBSMF and SBCMF fisheries are quota managed and primarily retain their target species of scallops and crabs, respectively. The Pilbara Prawn Resource (Resource) is accessed by three managed commercial fisheries; the Exmouth Gulf Prawn Managed Fishery (EGPMF), the Onslow Prawn Managed Fishery (OPMF) and the Nickol Bay Prawn Managed Fishery (NBPMF). All three fisheries are managed under effort controls, with the EGPMF and OPMF targeting brown tiger prawns (BTP; Penaeus esculentus), western king prawns (WKP; Penaeus latisulcatus), blue endeavour prawns (BEP; Metapenaeus endeavouri), and lesser quantities of banana prawns (Penaeus merguiensis). The NBPMF primarily targets banana prawns while also catching BTP, WKP, and BEP in lower numbers. These fisheries are situated adjacent to one another along the Pilbara …

On January 21, 2025, the U.S. Supreme Court recognized in Andrew v. White that the State’s introduction of sexualizing evidence in a woman’s capital trial may violate due process. In Brenda Andrew’s case, prosecutors presented evidence about her sexual relationships, clothing, and style of underwear as proof that she was guilty of capital murder. Our research, supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation, reveals for the first time that the prosecution’s tactics in Brenda Andrew’s case were far from unique. This interpretive phenomenological analysis examines how 13 undergraduate students at a liberal arts college construct meaning from their experiences with artificial intelligence technologies in relation to their career development and life purpose. Guided by an integrated theoretical framework combining Career Construction Theory (Savickas, 2012, 2013) and Transformative Learning Theory (Mezirow, 1991, 2000), the study addresses three research questions: how students describe their AI experiences across educational contexts, what connections they make between those experiences and their developing professional identities, and how they integrate AI experiences into broader narratives about work and purpose.

Teaching in English Medium Instruction (EMI) programs can significantly reshape educators’ professional identities particularly when English is not their first language. This article summarizes a previously published phenomenological study with three Italian EMI educators in educational linguistics. Drawing on creative fortune lines to trace their experiences, the study showed that participants’ disciplinary field played a central role in their lived identity, intersecting with issues of language teaching and native-speakerist ideologies. The findings also revealed a heightened awareness of multilingual competence across English and other languages, which contributed to identity formation, alongside a pronounced tension between their professional selves expressed in …

In today's fast-paced and high-pressure society, maintaining emotional well-being requires effective strategies for managing everyday negative affect. This research examines the role of service experiences in reducing negative affect and introduces experience therapy as a novel strategy for affect regulation. Through a series of studies, we assess the effectiveness of experience therapy and investigate how different service experiences—varying in levels of personal effort involvement and social involvement—contribute to negative affect regulation. The findings demonstrate that experiences requiring high personal effort and social involvement are particularly effective in alleviating negative affect, especially among emotionally stressed individuals. This study explores how dialogic teaching can enhance metacognition and self-efficacy among middle school multilingual learners (MLs) who face challenges with the academic language demands of literacy tasks. Using a design-based research (DBR) methodology, specifically formative experiment, the Metacognitive Dialogic Teaching Protocol (MDTP) was implemented over seven iterative cycles. The research questions were as follows: How do dialogic interactions impact metacognition in middle-grade MLs? Wireless communication systems employ radio frequency (RF) filters to isolate desired signals while suppressing interference and noise. Conventional RF filters rely on fixed-frequency architectures that restrict system operation in increasingly dynamic communication environments. This project features the design and optimization of a reconfigurable RF filter prototype using coupled microstrip resonators and electronic tuning components. The filter design demonstrates a tunable range of 2−4 GHz. Future design of reconfigurable microstrip architectures must take steps to maintain signal integrity across active elements. Power loss may be mitigated through the selection of higher quality factor components and less lossy prototyping materials.

This study examines how Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programmes in Italy and Ireland prepare future teachers for Global Citizenship Education (GCE). Although promoted internationally through SDG target 4.7 (UNESCO, 2015) and the Dublin Declaration (GENE, 2022), GCE remains unevenly integrated in teacher education. The research investigates two university contexts in Italy and Ireland, through a qualitative comparative case study combining document analysis, semi-structured interviews, and focus groups with 32 participants (pre-service teachers and teacher educators). Findings indicate that GCE is systematically embedded in Ireland, while in Italy implementation result in more fragmented approaches. Shared challenges include conceptual ambiguity and the …

Underground hydrogen storage is affected by microbial consumption, and the different minerals present in the subsurface. However, most studies consider either biotic or abiotic factors in isolation and hence, the conditions that drive a self-sustaining storage remain poorly understood. This thesis uses a genome-informed thermodynamic model developed by Kharel et al. (2026) in which pH is the central variable coupling hydrogenotrophic microbial metabolism, inter-species competition, and carbonate mineral buffering. This dissertation examined the interaction of warfarin with human serum albumin (HSA) by using affinity chromatography, with particular emphasis on ultrafast affinity extraction (UAE) and affinity microcolumns. HSA affinity supports were prepared by immobilizing HSA onto diol-bonded silica via Schiff base chemistry and used to prepare affinity microcolumns for chromatographic studies under physiological-like conditions at pH 7.4 and 37.0 °C. In 2016, the O’Callahan Society, in support of the Naval ROTC Unit at the College of the Holy Cross, published a history of the Unit which included statistics on the Navy and Marine Corps officers commissioned through the Unit since 1944. These statistics were largely based on a 2004 annual report submitted by the Unit (on file in the Navy Archives in Washington D. C.) and that report, in turn, built on a previous report that was prepared in 1990.
