Silence And Whispering In The L2 Pragmatics Classroom: Duoethnographic Insights From A Vietnamese Context, Duong Minh Tuan, Le Thi Diem Lan

This article examined how silence and whispering shape participation in an L2 pragmatics course for English majors at a Vietnamese university. Using a duoethnographic approach, we, as lecturer–researchers and the sole participants in this study, engaged in written dialogic exchanges over a 12-week semester, drawing on salient classroom incidents and institutional texts as prompts. Our dialogues revisited scenes in which students were quiet or whispered in Vietnamese, and we interrogated our shifting interpretations of those moments in light of scholarship on silence, L2 pragmatics, and language policy. Optimality-Based Characterizations Of Linear Residual Risk Sharing, Jiajie Yang

In this paper, we study multi-party risk sharing under general risk-evaluation functionals. We reverse the traditional optimization approach and consider the following problem: given the universal optimality of linear residual risk sharing, what restrictions does this impose on the participants' evaluation functionals? We show that, under appropriate regularity conditions, such universal optimality necessarily implies a common-shape representation of the underlying evaluation functionals under both the min--sum and min--max formulations. We further establish a second characterization without imposing linear residual risk sharing a priori. This paper explores the epistemology of mourning through the lens of two Asian American scholars pursuing doctoral degrees at a Midwestern university. We examine how racialization in Midwestern educational institutions reflects a broader historical and cultural distancing from Vietnamese immigrants and refugees, despite a shared geopolitical past. Employing critical collaborative autoethnography as both method and remedy, we engage in a dialogic process of uncovering and understanding our collective memories and lived experiences. This approach empowers us to confront hegemonic narratives and reclaim our identities as immigrant scholars navigating predominantly white academic spaces.

This study aimed to evaluate the metabolic regulators insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-1 (IGFBP-1) and fatty acid-binding protein-4 (FABP-4) as potential biomarkers for the early detection and monitoring of diabetic nephropathy progression. The study included 75 diabetic patients aged 35–65 years who attended Medical City between February and September 2023. An easy and selective method is proposed for spectrophotometric estimation of Empagliflozin (EMPA) in pure and pharmaceutical preparations using the cloud point extraction (CPE) procedure. The method involved oxidation of EMPA by excess N-bromosuccinimide (NBS); the unreacted NBS was used for bleaching the red color of azorubine dye, and the residual azorubine was subsequently preconcentrated using Triton X-114 in an acidic medium at an equilibrium temperature of 50°C for 15 min. In this study, the structural, electronic, and spectroscopic properties of the 3-(1,3-benzodioxol-5-yl)-1H-pyrazole-5-carboxylic acid (C₁₁H₈N₂O₄) molecule, which has potential biological activity and optoelectronic properties, were investigated theoretically. All quantum chemical calculations were performed at the B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) basis set level using Density Functional Theory (DFT). Frequency analysis of the optimized geometric structure confirmed that the structure has a stable minimum on the potential energy surface. The calculated energy gap of 3.982 eV, because of Frontier Molecular Orbital (FMO) analysis, revealed the chemical stability and Intramolecular Charge Transfer (ICT) behavior of the molecule. Line-search techniques are vital to first-order optimization algorithms because they provide stable and efficient convergence. In multi-objective optimization, designing effective step-length rules is especially difficult because conflicting objectives are involved, and such situations make it often impossible to design a rule that involves strict monotonic decrease of all components, and results in premature stagnation. Topological indices are numerical molecular descriptors in quantitative structure-property relationships (QSPR) models. The connectivity-based topological indices play a vital role in mathematical chemistry. In this article, we demonstrate the predictive power of some eccentricity-based topological indices among monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Though a number of indices and several properties are considered, it is found that only the atom bond connectivity eccentricity index and geometric arithmetic eccentricity index exhibit strong correlation with properties like molecular weight, boiling point, and Log P, where P is the partition coefficient associated with the compound. This study explores the experiences of one doctoral researcher and two doctoral peers navigating mentor-mentee relationships through a literary lens, employing autoethnographic methods to capture the nuanced dynamics of guidance, expectation, and emotional labor. Data were drawn from narratives found in reflective journals, personal memos, email exchanges, text messages and conversations with four faculty mentors and two doctoral peers accumulated through the doctoral journey.  The narratives were analyzed using thematic analysis. Curricular mapping is essential in pharmacy education to evaluate student learning progression and identify curricular gaps. Faculty assessment tagging can be labor-intensive and subject to variability. Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems, such as CompetencyGenie®, can automate tagging in a scalable manner. This case report evaluates CompetencyGenie’s® reliability relative to faculty tagging of pharmacy assessment items.

Novel derivatives of 1,2,3-triazoles bearing a saccharin part (4a-g) were synthesized and produced as promising antioxidant compounds. FTIR, ¹H NMR, and ¹³C NMR spectroscopy were used to confirm the structures of the produced compounds. The in vitro synthesized compounds' antioxidant activity was evaluated using the DPPH radical scavenging test. The evaluation revealed that compound 4e exhibited the highest scavenging activity with an IC₅₀ value of 34.65 ± 0.53 μg/mL, outperforming the reference standard ascorbic acid (IC₅₀ = 46.38 ± 0.27 μg/mL), while compound 4f demonstrated significant free radical scavenging action with an …

In this study, we analyze how beginning teachers in Chile construct meanings around resilience during their first year of professional induction, within a context of intensified teachers’ work and limited institutional support. Drawing on a socioecological perspective and Critical Discursive Psychology, we developed a qualitative design focused on interpretative repertoires. Ten beginning teachers from various subject areas, educational levels, and regions participated, with each being interviewed at two time points, six months apart. I begin by outlining poststructural understandings of discourse and explaining why a researcher may choose a poststructural discourse analysis for a study’s theoretical and methodological framework. While published poststructural discourse analyses commonly draw upon Foucauldian concepts to guide analysis, in this paper I share a more expansive approach. This study examines Jokha Alharthi's use of the trope of absent mothers, both physical and emotional, in her widely acclaimed novel Celestial Bodies (2011, translated 2019). This research argues that maternal absence serves two purposes: It facilitates omniscient access to the private sphere of family life, which is typically restricted by traditional ideals of privacy, and it centralizes maternal presence within historical narrative. Adopting both textual and contextual approaches, the current investigation reveals that Alharthi's depiction of absent motherhood presents a nuanced understanding of various formative factors of the mother–child dyad.
