Media Literacy Education In Hadhramout Governorate, Case Study: Hadhramout University, Amal Omar Ba Qatyan

Theses and Dissertations

Media literacy is an essential skill in today’s digital environment (Khoirunnisa, Udiana, & Zahra, 2025), especially in conflict-affected societies where misinformation and propaganda spread rapidly through social media platforms (Uzochukwu et al., 2025). In Yemen, the ongoing conflict has weakened the education system and reduced access to reliable information, which increases university students’ vulnerability to misleading, biased, and inaccurate media content (Moharram, 2026). Despite the recognized importance of media literacy education, academic research on this topic remains very limited in Yemen, particularly in Hadhramout Governorate.

This study addresses this research gap by examining the current state of media literacy education …

Person-Centered Profiles Of Body Image (Dis)Satisfaction Among Adolescents And Young Adults With Type 1 Diabetes, Adora Elise Choquette Jun 2026

Person-Centered Profiles Of Body Image (Dis)Satisfaction Among Adolescents And Young Adults With Type 1 Diabetes, Adora Elise Choquette

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

Individuals with type 1 diabetes (T1D) are uniquely vulnerable to body image dissatisfaction due to a complex interplay of pre-existing psychosocial risk factors and health demands necessitated by T1D care. These individual-level risk factors lend to high degrees of heterogeneity in body image (dis)satisfaction. Given that body image dissatisfaction heightens the risk of disordered eating behaviors and subsequent adverse diabetes-related outcomes, it is important to understand antecedents of body image dissatisfaction in individuals with T1D to inform care. The present study included a sample of adolescents and young adults (AYA) ages 13-35 with T1D (N=891, Mage=21.14 years (SDage=6.03 years), 57.8% …

Show Your Rules: Ab 587 And The Future Of Content Moderation Disclosure Laws, Roz Kohan Jun 2026

Show Your Rules: Ab 587 And The Future Of Content Moderation Disclosure Laws, Roz Kohan

Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review

Social media platforms play an integral role in social and political life. They control a large proportion of public speech through their own rules, curation, and freedom to amplify or suppress content as they see fit. California’s AB 587 requires social media platforms to disclose these content moderation policies.

The Ninth Circuit in X Corp. v. Bonta recently invalidated AB 587’s Content Category Report provisions because it compelled commercial speech. This Note explains why this ruling is inaccurate. The Ninth Circuit misapplied Moody v. NetChoice, the key Supreme Court precedent that recognized platforms’ First Amendment protections around their editorial …

A Model For Food Safety Regulation And Effective Enforcement: A California Case Study, Ninveh Mansour Jun 2026

A Model For Food Safety Regulation And Effective Enforcement: A California Case Study, Ninveh Mansour

Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review

This Note examines California’s emerging leadership in food additive regulation amid perceived federal shortcomings, particularly within the FDA’s “generally recognized as safe” (“GRAS”) framework. Using recent legislation, the California Food Safety Act (“CFSA”) and the California School Food Safety Act (“CSFSA”), as case studies, this Note explores how California has acted to ban additives still permitted under federal law, citing gaps in federal oversight and consumer protection. This Note places these laws in the broader context of California’s regulatory legacy, including Proposition 65 and the artificial trans-fat ban. It also compares enforcement mechanisms, highlighting the effectiveness of Proposition 65’s private …

The Fourth Amendment In Parallax: Why California's New Speed Cameras Should Prompt Increased Scrutiny For Surveillance Networks, Arman Sookiassian Jun 2026

The Fourth Amendment In Parallax: Why California's New Speed Cameras Should Prompt Increased Scrutiny For Surveillance Networks, Arman Sookiassian

Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review

With the passage of Assembly Bill 645 in 2023, California has authorized speed camera pilot programs in six cities throughout the state. The goal for this legislation is to reduce speeding and speed- related casualties through a network of automated traffic surveillance. By issuing civil fines for speeding violations detected by the camera, the hope is that motorists will reduce their speed on the road.

Though touted as a way to deter speeding motorists, a network of automated cameras invites privacy concerns. The Bill attempts to address these concerns, in large part, by assuring that the photographs and other metadata …

From First-Come, First-Served To Rubric-Based Open Access Publishing Funds: A Comparative Analysis And Survey Study, Karen B. Burton, Amal Wagih H. Mostafa

Publications

Open Access (OA) publishing contributes to research visibility and compliance with grant mandates, yet high Article Processing Charges remain a major barrier. To address this, Clemson University Libraries launched an Open Access Publishing Fund (OAPF) in 2016, initially using a first-come, first-served model. Rapid depletion of funds under this model prompted a shift in 2023 to a rubric-based monthly award system. This research compared the current practices of Clemson University's OAPF with OA funds at similar land-grant universities. The findings revealed that all eight institutions used first-come, first-served models and had similar eligibility criteria to Clemson's. It also surveyed previous …

A Parallelized Multi-Component Radiation Testing Methodology For Systems-On-Chip, Weston M. Smith Jun 2026

A Parallelized Multi-Component Radiation Testing Methodology For Systems-On-Chip, Weston M. Smith

Theses and Dissertations

As the space industry expands, there is an increased reliance on system on chip (SoC) devices in high radiation environments. The reliability of these devices becomes crucial, especially in space applications. The industry's rapid growth has led to a massive expansion in the use of Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) components. Electronic systems are vulnerable to single event upsets (SEUs) and the failure modes caused by SEUs are not fully understood, especially for COTS SoCs. Standard radiation testing techniques of SEUs use a single core of a multi-core processor to monitor bit flips. In this work, we present a parallelized radiation testing …

 Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been transforming fundraising through data-driven decision-making, automation, and personalized donor engagement. Existing research focuses on AI applications and outcomes in the nonprofit sector in western context, with little known information in the Global South, particularly Egypt. This gap makes understanding the organizational conditions that shape AI difficult and limited. This thesis examines how organizational, cultural, ethical, and resource-related factors shape Egyptian nonprofit organizations’ readiness to adopt AI in fundraising. Through a qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 21 fundraising directors, CEOs, a governmental representative, and technology professionals working in Egyptian nonprofits based in Cairo …

Gatekeeping As Leverage: Morocco Strategic Agency In European Union Migration Management, Nadine Omar Elkady Jun 2026

Gatekeeping As Leverage: Morocco Strategic Agency In European Union Migration Management, Nadine Omar Elkady

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis examines how Morocco has leveraged migration as an instrument in its relation with the European Union (EU). Following the Arab Spring, Morocco has utilized this opportunity to implement its own agenda and bargain with the EU on prevention tactics for irregular migration. I argue that cooperation for migration management between the EU and Morocco is built on bargaining processes and tactics from Morocco, which has shifted power dynamics from being merely a passive actor to a key player. Morocco's cooperation reflects calculated bargaining strategies rather than a response to the EU pressure. The research utilizes qualitative methodology, combining …

Documenting Death: A Question Of Sovereignty In The Cairo Geniza, Thomas Adkins Jun 2026

Documenting Death: A Question Of Sovereignty In The Cairo Geniza, Thomas Adkins

Theses and Dissertations

How can death offer a case study for the question of sovereignty in eleventh to thirteenth century Egypt as it was performed by sovereigns, officials, and subjects alike, and, in this context, how can the documentary practices preserved in the Geniza be understood as an instrument to perform sovereignty? This thesis uses death as a case study in the same way that scholars of the medieval Islamic world have studied taxation, administration, and ceremonials to understand sovereignty as it was performed by the state, officials, and subjects. This performance of sovereignty by each implicated actor left a rich documentary trail, …

Will Beauty Save The Brain? Exploring The Relationship Between Eudaimonic Reels Exposure And Egyptian Gen Z'S Mind And Motivations, Petra Zaky Jun 2026

Will Beauty Save The Brain? Exploring The Relationship Between Eudaimonic Reels Exposure And Egyptian Gen Z'S Mind And Motivations, Petra Zaky

Theses and Dissertations

Social media entertaining content includes a mixed bag of the meaningful and the trivial. For Generation Z, whose favorite daily entertainment is shallow yet funny short-form videos (reels), there is often an invisible price paid. The loss of ability to watch long meaningful videos, distractedness from self, “Brain Rot”, glamorizing of hedonism are among the maladies left behind the attractive rabbit hole of their daily media diet. This study explores the relationship between exposure to meaningful reels, in contrast to pleasurable reels, and Gen Z’s reflective thinking, “Brain Rot” symptoms, motivation to watch long meaningful videos and life motivations between …

Leveraging Crisis Management For Minimising Brand Cancellation, Liyun Liu, Catherine Prentice, Susan Zeidan Jun 2026

Leveraging Crisis Management For Minimising Brand Cancellation, Liyun Liu, Catherine Prentice, Susan Zeidan

All Works

Brand misconduct can trigger negative consumer responses and escalate into brand crises. Effective crisis management is therefore essential to mitigate such responses and enhance organisational resilience. This study investigates the impact of various crisis communication strategies on consumer engagement and subsequent brand cancellation, incorporating the mediating role of consumer engagement and the moderating influence of brand misconduct type. Two experimental studies using simple random sampling were conducted online. The findings reveal that crisis communication strategies exert significantly different effects on consumer engagement, which in turn negatively influences brand cancellation. However, the mediating role of consumer engagement varies depending on the …

Bap1 Loss Links Myc Activation, Stress Response Vulnerability, And Disease Progression In Kidney Cancer, Ilya Strunilin Jun 2026

Bap1 Loss Links Myc Activation, Stress Response Vulnerability, And Disease Progression In Kidney Cancer, Ilya Strunilin

Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations

BAP1, a chromatin modifier, is a frequently mutated tumor suppressor in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). Mutations in BAP1 are associated with a more aggressive and lethal disease. However, the downstream mediators of BAP1 loss in ccRCC oncogenesis are not well understood. To better understand mechanisms of BAP1-mediated tumor suppression, I have extensively characterized the very early transcriptional mediators of BAP1 loss in a postnatal kidney-specific genetic knockout model. Because VHL loss is the initiating event in ccRCC, we modeled Bap1 loss in a Vhl-deficient background. I have found that Vhl/Bap1 double-knockout cells of PT segment S2 strongly activate …
