Vietnam’s geostrategic position—bordering China and commanding key South China Sea maritime routes—makes it a pivotal actor in shaping great-power competition in Southeast Asia. This article argues that the United States should support Vietnam’s neutrality and strategic autonomy as a means of countering Chinese influence. Unlike prior studies that portray regional states as passive players, this analysis highlights Vietnam’s active role in influencing regional dynamics. Through comparative analysis with the Philippines, using historical case studies, geographic assessments, and policy reviews, the article offers practical insights for military and policy practitioners on how geography shapes alliance formation and strategic competition.

The Rímac River sustains Lima, yet the city has treated it more like an edge condition than a living system. Its water moves through the metropolis as a source of life, but its presence is buried behind concrete walls, traffic corridors, pollution, and fragmented access. Over time, the river has been reduced to a controlled channel, stripped of the cultural and spatial relationships that once connected it to everyday life. [Objective] To establish a highly sensitive indirect competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ic-ELISA) for detecting enrofloxacin (ENR) residues in animal-derived food. [Methods] ENR was conjugated with keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH) using the carbodiimide method to prepare an immunogen, and New Zealand white rabbits were immunized to produce high-sensitivity antibodies. Based on this, the detection system was optimized to establish ic-ELISA, the detection performance was evaluated, and spiked recovery tests were conducted in animal-derived food. [Objective] To analyze the dynamic migration patterns of nutritional components in composite fruit vinegar during storage and thereby reveal the mechanism of storage conditions affecting the quality stability of the fermentation system. [Methods] Single-factor experiments combined with the surface methodology are adopted to optimize the fermentation parameters of apple-raspberry composite fruit vinegar, with the total acid mass concentration employed as the response value. [Objective] To establish a prediction model for the soluble solid content (SSC) and firmness of prunes in Xinjiang using visible and near-infrared (Vis-NIR) spectroscopy, enabling nondestructive and accurate evaluation of the internal quality of the fruit. [Methods] Taking 280 prunes in Xinjiang as research samples, the study collects Vis-NIR reflectance spectra at different storage periods with a near-infrared system. Principal component analysis-Mahalanobis distance (PCA-MD) is applied to eliminate abnormal samples. Trauma exposure and posttraumatic stress (PTS) symptoms are well-documented health disparities in Latinx migrants, explaining a diverse array of physical and mental health complaints as well as role limitations for both youth and adults. Few studies have examined the influence of the migration journey on PTS in Latinx migrants. We examined the added effect of migration-related predictors, above and beyond general trauma exposure, of PTS in two samples of Latinx migrants with the broad aim of uncovering unique predictors of PTS in this high-risk population. BACKGROUND: Social media is a ubiquitous part of the modern world and plays a key role in the dissemination of information. While utilizing social media for educational purposes has been repeatedly demonstrated as feasible, it has been underutilized in medical education and remains a critical opportunity to integrate microlearning and stigma reduction curricula.

METHODS: A cross-sectional survey on social media usage, attitudes, and beliefs was sent to medical and nursing students at two large academic institutions within Philadelphia. Descriptive statistics are reported, and non-parametric tests were utilized for exploratory analyses.

Colorectal cancer is widely understood as a potentially devastating diagnosis. Late-stage diagnosis portends a high likelihood of morbidity and mortality, in stark contrast to survival rates for patients whose cancer is diagnosed when localized. Early detection through screening is therefore of critical importance. Black residents of Massachusetts have a higher incidence of colorectal cancer than white residents and are more likely to be diagnosed at stage four. Lower screening rates amongst Black residents represent one of multiple factors leading to worse morbidity and mortality from colorectal cancer. PURPOSE: Median nerve (MN) block under local anesthesia at the wrist is commonly performed but can be limited by anatomic variation, particularly absence of the palmaris longus tendon. This study investigates a novel trans-flexor carpi radialis (trans-FCR) technique for MN anesthesia that uses the flexor carpi radialis (FCR) tendon as a consistent surface landmark.

METHODS: Fourteen fresh frozen upper extremity cadaver specimens were used. Wireless communication technologies for bioelectronic implants enable remote monitoring for diagnosis and adaptive therapeutic intervention without the constraints of wired connections. However, wireless data uplink from millimeter-scale devices deep in the body struggles to achieve low power consumption while maintaining large misalignment tolerances. Here, we report a passive wireless backscatter communication system based on magnetoelectric transducers that consumes less than 0.3 pJ/bit and achieves less than 1E-6 bit error rate at a distance of 55 mm while tolerating a misalignment of 10 mm.
