The Impact Of Instrumental Attribution In Ai-Enabled Monitoring On Counterproductive Work Behavior, Qiang Zhang Sep 2024

The Impact Of Instrumental Attribution In Ai-Enabled Monitoring On Counterproductive Work Behavior, Qiang Zhang

Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)

AI-enabled monitoring tools are theoretically expected to suppress unethical employee behavior. However, in practice, employees may perceive such monitoring as being driven by leaders' instrumental motives, primarily focused on personal performance evaluation and self-interest. This perception can foster feelings of job insecurity and moral disengagement, ultimately leading to counterproductive work behavior (CWB), which includes unethical employee behavior and turnover. These outcomes may undermine the intended effectiveness of AI-enabled monitoring tools. This study aims to explore the impact of Instrumental Attribution in AIenabled Monitoring (IAAIM) on CWB, specifically focusing on unethical employee behavior and turnover, through both theoretical and empirical lenses. …

Research On The Influence Mechanism Of Value Co-Creation On Enterprise Performance: Empirical Evidence From China's Motorsport Culture Industry, Xiaodong Weng Sep 2024

Research On The Influence Mechanism Of Value Co-Creation On Enterprise Performance: Empirical Evidence From China's Motorsport Culture Industry, Xiaodong Weng

Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)

We are in an era of digital economy and enterprise change management. The application of digital technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, Cloud Computing, and Big Data (collectively known as ABCD technologies) has increased the competition in the value chain and value network between customers and enterprises. Users can now intervene in product design, transaction, and feedback before, during, and after the process, breaking through the limitations of time and space. They leverage their low-cost advantage to draw attention, shifting from a traditional, unidirectional supply logic to a value co-creation logic. This influences both enterprises and customers to produce …

Corinthian Countrysides: Linked Open Data And Analysis From The Eastern Korinthia Archaeological Survey, David K. Pettegrew

Digital Press Books

Corinthian Countrysides presents the datasets, analysis, and results of a large-scale intensive survey in the eastern territory of Corinth between 1997 and 2003. Carried out under a permit of the Greek Ministry of Culture granted through the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, the Eastern Korinthia Archaeological Survey investigated the Isthmus west of the Corinth Canal, a highly-connected transport corridor and densely settled area from prehistory to the present day, and sampled parts of the mountainous and coastal districts of the southeast Corinthia. Researchers recorded a rich body of evidence for habitation and land use covering all periods of …

System-Based Integrated Comprehensive Simulation Program In Pediatric Residency Education: Our Institutional Experience, Mahmoud Jaara, Jenn M. Zimmerman, Jean Ann Hutton, Nancy Joseph, Maritza Plaza-Verduin Sep 2024

System-Based Integrated Comprehensive Simulation Program In Pediatric Residency Education: Our Institutional Experience, Mahmoud Jaara, Jenn M. Zimmerman, Jean Ann Hutton, Nancy Joseph, Maritza Plaza-Verduin

Posters

Background: Simulation provides the opportunity for learners to bridge the gap between evidence-based theoretical knowledge and clinical practice experience. Residency programs often utilize simulation to expose the learners to various patients who are presenting in extremis in a safe environment. This empowers the trainee by providing them with tools and experiences to enhance their pediatric education. Simulation is also utilized to practice non-technical skills like team dynamics and communication in a psychologically safe setting. Despite the widespread use of simulation in pediatric residency programs, there remains a gap in standardization. In response to this gap, we sought to create a …

A Convenient Synthesis Of Short Α-/Β-Mixed Peptides As Potential Α-Amylase Inhibitors, Naeem Ahmed, Fakhira Razzaq, Muhammad Arfan, Mansour K. Gatasheh, Hammad Nasir, Joham Sarfraz Ali, Hamna Hafeez Sep 2024

A Convenient Synthesis Of Short Α-/Β-Mixed Peptides As Potential Α-Amylase Inhibitors, Naeem Ahmed, Fakhira Razzaq, Muhammad Arfan, Mansour K. Gatasheh, Hammad Nasir, Joham Sarfraz Ali, Hamna Hafeez

Michigan Tech Publications

Over the last decades, the increased incidence of metabolic disorders, such as type two diabetes and obesity, has motivated researchers to investigate new enzyme inhibitors. Inhibition of the α-amylase enzyme is one therapeutic approach in lowering glucose levels in the blood to manage diabetes mellitus. The objective of this study was to synthesize short α-/β-mixed peptides in the solution phase. The Boc-protected α-L-leucine was converted to β-analogue by using Arndt–Eistert synthesis with the advantage of no racemization and retention of configuration. Three novel short peptides were successfully synthesized: N(Boc)-Gly-β-Leu–OCH3(14), N(Boc)-O(Bz)α-Ser-β-Leu–OCH3(16), and N(Boc)-O(Bz)-α-Tyr-α-Gly-β-Leu–OCH3(17), characterized by FTIR and 1H NMR analysis. The …

A Subcortical Model For Auditory Forward Masking With Efferent Control Of Cochlear Gain., Braden N. Maxwell, Afagh Farhadi, Marc A Brennan, Adam Svec, Laurel H. Carney Sep 2024

A Subcortical Model For Auditory Forward Masking With Efferent Control Of Cochlear Gain., Braden N. Maxwell, Afagh Farhadi, Marc A Brennan, Adam Svec, Laurel H. Carney

All Faculty Scholarship

Previous physiological and psychophysical studies have explored whether feedback to the cochlea from the efferent system influences forward masking. The present work proposes that the limited growth-of-masking (GOM) observed in auditory nerve (AN) fibers may have been misunderstood; namely, that this limitation may be due to the influence of anesthesia on the efferent system. Building on the premise that the unanesthetized AN may exhibit GOM similar to more central nuclei, the present computational modeling study demonstrates that feedback from the medial olivocochlear (MOC) efferents may contribute to GOM observed physiologically in onset-type neurons in both the cochlear nucleus and inferior …

Rural Communication Strategies: Disability And The Role Of Public Libraries, Jeff Gutierrez, University Of Montana Rural Institute For Inclusive Communities Sep 2024

Rural Communication Strategies: Disability And The Role Of Public Libraries, Jeff Gutierrez, University Of Montana Rural Institute For Inclusive Communities

Independent Living and Community Participation

Communication in rural areas can often feel like a mystery to outsiders. Local identity and informal networks tend to thrive, but if you are not from these areas, it can be difficult to stay in the loop. Even rural people with disabilities, who have lived in these communities their entire lives, still struggle to participate. How do they find out what is going on and stay connected with local resources and services? This research report explores the role of libraries in rural communication strategies for people with disabilities.

Correcting The Record: Subspecific Identification Of Nebraska’S Lone Common Eider (Somateria Mollissima), Sam Manning, Joel G. Jorgensen, Stephen J. Brenner, W. Ross Silcock

Nebraska Bird Review

In late November or early December 1967, Roger Guenther harvested a Common Eider (Somateria mollissima) on Maloney Canal between Maloney and Sutherland in Lincoln County, Nebraska. The head and a single foot from the carcass were deposited at the University of Nebraska State Museum via the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and the Nebraska Fish and Game Department (now the Game and Parks Commission). Dr. Jean Tate prepared the parts, which were inventoried as specimen #ZM-12341 in the UNSM. Dr. Paul Johnsgard purportedly took this specimen to the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago for identification purposes, and concluded …

2023 (35th) Report Of The Nou Records Committee, Mark A. Brogie

Nebraska Bird Review

The functions and methods of the Nebraska Ornithologists’ Union Records Committee (NOURC) are described in its bylaws (NOURC 2010). The committee’s purpose is to provide a procedure for documenting unusual bird sightings and to establish a list of all documented birds for Nebraska. Species for which the NOURC seeks documentation (NOURC Review List) can be found at the NOU website https://noubirds.org/Birds/ReviewList.aspx. Starting in 2020, the NOURC decided to deal mainly with those species deemed as Accidental on the “Official List of the Birds of Nebraska”. Casual species and out-of- range species are now summarized in the “Seasonal Reports” of the …

Summer Field Report, June–July 2024, W. Ross Silcock

Nebraska Bird Review

This was an intriguing summer in several ways. I am far from being a knowledgeable ecologist, but, like most of us, as a layman I wonder whether and how weather affects birds, and if and how local weather is reflecting the conventional wisdom of climate change. Climate change seems increasingly to be expressed as various extreme or rapidly changing weather events that have differing effects on vegetation and consequently insect and larger prey populations. Every species responds differently it seems, depending on its biological needs, but food supply is the most important issue for birds. It is tempting to assign …

Different Feathers Embedding Together: Integrating Diversity And Organizational Embeddedness, Debjani Ghosh, Jorge A. Gonzalez, Tomoki Sekiguchi Sep 2024

Different Feathers Embedding Together: Integrating Diversity And Organizational Embeddedness, Debjani Ghosh, Jorge A. Gonzalez, Tomoki Sekiguchi

Management Faculty Publications

Despite the increase of demographic diversity in organizational environments, little is known about how and why employees from distinct demographic backgrounds (e.g., gender, race, and/or ethnicity) become embedded in their work organizations, which is a reason why employees stay and perform in their jobs. To address this research gap, we integrate job embeddedness and social identification/self-categorization theories and draw from critical diversity studies to theorize on the effects of varying degrees of demographic diversity on the organizational embeddedness of diverse talent. Specifically, we theorize on how monolithic, pluralistic, and multicultural organizational stages, reflecting distinct degrees of heterogeneity, structural integration, and …

Exploring An Ai Chatbot To Close School Counselor Information Gaps: A Design Science Approach, Kalee Crandall Sep 2024

Exploring An Ai Chatbot To Close School Counselor Information Gaps: A Design Science Approach, Kalee Crandall

Masters Theses & Doctoral Dissertations

Chatbots are an emerging technology that stimulate conversations with humans often using generative artificial intelligence (AI). This technology is becoming increasingly relevant, particularly in the field in school counseling. For school counselors facing growing demands, utilizing data to demonstrate the effectiveness of their services on student outcomes is crucial to secure recent position increases. Historically, school counselors have struggled with the expectation to use data and utilize available technology. AI chatbots have the potential to help school counselors, a traditionally non-technical audience, efficiently evaluate data, create goals, and explore potential interventions to accomplish those goals.

To support school counselors in …

Claying To Ameliorate Soil Water Repellence, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia Sep 2024

Claying To Ameliorate Soil Water Repellence, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia

Natural resources factsheets

Claying involves adding and incorporating clay-rich subsoil into water repellent topsoil to overcome the repellence. Adding clay-rich soil provides a long-term solution to soil water repellence, and increases soil water holding capacity, reduces wind erosion risk, and may reduce frost risk.

Claying is best suited to medium to high rainfall environments in Western Australia, with higher crop and pasture yield potential.

Open Groundwater Drains In Wa, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia Sep 2024

Open Groundwater Drains In Wa, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia

Natural resources factsheets

Open groundwater drains are excavated channels with sloping floors and sides and open levees, designed to intercept and drain surface (usually fresh) and groundwater (usually saline in WA) from agricultural land. These drains are most effective where the channel is dug below a water table in soils that allow good lateral drainage.

DPIRD recommends leveed groundwater drains in most cases. These should form part of a whole farm and whole catchment integrated water and salinity management program. Information on this page is a guide only. It is highly recommended that landholders considering the construction of open drains seek expert advice …

Beyond Environmental Harm: Industry Claims, Lived Experiences, And The Impacts Of Gas Extraction, Martina Angela Caretta, Melissa Haeffner, Ryan Emanuel, Racheal Hood, Julia Seydel

Environmental Science and Management Faculty Publications and Presentations

The peer-reviewed literature presents overwhelming evidence that fossil fuel based energy infrastructure projects are responsible for lower residential property values, environmental destruction and pollution that decrease residents' quality of life. These projects also challenge local people's sense of identity and even the threat of such a project can make residents question their sense of place. As evidence, we first present a bibliographic analysis of the environmental impact statements for the Mountain Valley Pipeline in West Virginia and the Jordan Cove Energy Project in Oregon. We find that their approval processes relies on non-peer-reviewed, industry-funded claims that pipelines will bring economic …
