In Mexico, young feminists and youth-led feminist movements are already leading the way and pursuing radical approaches to addressing social injustice, such as gender-based violence (GBV), lack of sexual and reproductive health care, and gender discrimination. Although young feminist organizations (YFOs) in Mexico are showing an increasing ability to advocate for and effect change, there is limited systematized evidence on YFO strategies and impact. Over the last 10 years, numerous youth-led initiatives have emerged globally to address local development and social challenges. These initiatives focus on issues such as gender inequalities, women’s economic empowerment, gender-based violence (GBV), access to safe abortion, girls’ education, climate justice, and other social problems. The Population Council-Kenya and the Population Council-Mexico joined forces with young feminist organizations (YFOs), feminist academics, and other stakeholders to conduct participatory evaluation research. Background: We evaluate the relationship between the hospital case volume (HCV) and mortality outcomes after open aortic repair (OAR) and endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) of intact (iEVAR) and ruptured (rEVAR) abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) using a contemporary administrative database. Methods: The Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project Database for New York (2016) and New Jersey/Maryland/Florida (2016–2017) were queried using International Classification of Disease-10th edition to identify patients who had undergone OAR and EVAR. The hospitals were categorized into quartiles (Q) per overall (EVAR + OAR) volume, OAR-alone volume and EVAR-alone volume. Cox regression adjusted for confounding factors was used to estimate …

Background & aims: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a leading cause of cancer death. HCC is preventable with about 70% of HCC attributable to modifiable risk factors. Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs), Food and Drug Administration–approved medications for treating type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), have pleiotropic effects on counteracting risk factors for HCC. Here we evaluate the association of GLP-1RAs with incident HCC risk in a real-world population. Methods: This retrospective cohort included 1,890,020 patients with a diagnosis of T2DM who were prescribed GLP-1RAs or other non-GLP-1RA anti-diabetes medications and had no prior diagnosis of HCC. This study explores the market potential of BioWRAP, a biodegradable sprayable weed suppression product, by assessing the willingness to pay (WTP) among American home gardeners. Traditional plastic mulch offers significant agronomic benefits but poses considerable environmental challenges, making BioWRAP a promising alternative due to its similar benefits and reduced environmental impact. Using a double-bounded contingent valuation method, we analyze the WTP for BioWRAP among different demographic groups and gardening practices. Our findings indicate that the highest WTP for BioWRAP is among home gardeners who currently use chemical sprays for weed suppression, followed by those using physical barriers, with the lowest …

Federal court records have been available online for nearly a quarter century, yet they remain frustratingly inaccessible to the public. This is due to two primary barriers: (1) the federal government’s prohibitively high fees to access the records at scale and (2) the unwieldy state of the records themselves, which are mostly text documents scattered across numerous systems. Official datasets produced by the judiciary, as well as third-party data collection efforts, are incomplete, inaccurate, and similarly inaccessible to the public. Most civil cases settle. Yet generating a definitive settlement rate presents complex definitional and empirical problems, both in what should count as a settlement and how to count it. This Essay makes three contributions to better understanding and defining settlement. First, we propose a flexible, empirically informed, operationalizable definition of settlement as party resolution. Second, we exploit a new federal litigation data source to count party resolutions using machine learning models trained on 11 million docket sheet entries. Though Black and Latinx people make up less than 30% of U.S. residents, they constitute more than 50% of the nearly two million people currently in U.S. prisons and jails. Two Latin phrases describing litigants—pro se (for oneself) and in forma pauperis (IFP, as a poor person)—prompt this inquiry into the relationship between self-representation and requests for filing fee waivers. We sketch the governing legal principles for people seeking relief in the federal courts, the sources of income of the federal judiciary, the differing regimes to which Congress has subjected incarcerated and nonincarcerated people filing civil lawsuits, and analyses enabled by SCALES, a newly available database that coded 2016 and 2017 federal court docket sheets. AIMS: Resistance to targeted therapy is one of the critical obstacles in cancer management. Resistance to trastuzumab frequently develops in the treatment for HER2

METHODS: Four public datasets were used to screen PTP candidates in relation to trastuzumab responsiveness in HER2

RESULTS: PTPRO was identified as the key PTP which influences trastuzumab responsiveness and patient survival. PTPRO de-phosphorated several TKs, including the previously overlooked substrate ERBB3, thereby inhibiting multiple oncogenic pathways associated with drug resistance. Notably, PTPRO, previously deemed "undruggable," was effectively upregulated by saRNA-loaded nanoparticles. The upregulated PTPRO simultaneously inhibited ERBB3, ERBB2, and downstream SRC signaling pathways, thereby counteracting …

Introduction: The advent of disease-modifying therapies for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) has raised many questions and debates in the field as to the clinical benefits, risks, and costs of such therapies. Understanding the thermal aging kinetics of animal oils is of vital importance in the storage and applications of animal oils. In this work, we use four different techniques, including UV-Vis spectrometry, viscometry, impedance spectroscopy, and acid–base titration, to study the thermal aging kinetics of tallow, chicken oil, lard, and sheep oil in the temperature range from 120 ◦C to 180 ◦C. The evolutions of the UV-Vis absorbance, dynamic viscosity, electric impedance, and acid titration are discussed with the defect kinetics. The evolutions of the color centers, defects for dynamic viscosity, and electric dipoles follow second-order, first-order, and zero-order kinetics, respectively. …

Traumatic spinal cord injuries (SCI) are debilitating injuries affecting twenty-seven million people worldwide and cause functional impairments. Despite decades of research and medical advancements, current treatment options for SCI remain limited, in part due to the complex pathophysiology of spinal cord lesions including cellular transformation and extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. Introduction: The median survival time in ALS is approximately 3 years, but survival times range from less than a year to more than 10 years and much variance in disease course remains to be explained. As is true for physical outcomes, there is considerable variance in QOL, which is influenced by psychological health, coping, and social support, among other psychosocial factors. School suspension has been linked to numerous adverse social outcomes in adolescence and adulthood. While research continues to highlight the deleterious consequences tied to suspension, less is known about how exposure to suspension influences health over the life course. Drawing from panel data, we address this gap by investigating whether school suspension is associated with self-rated health from adolescence to midlife. Compared to youth with no history of suspension, suspended youth were more likely to report poorer health in adolescence. Findings also demonstrate that school suspension plays a significant role in self-rated health patterns over time. Specifically, we find suspended …
