Background

• Alpha-emitting radionuclides show promise for targeted radiopharmaceutical therapy (TRT).
• High linear energy transfer and short range cause highly localized DNA damage for effective cancer cell eradication.
• However, distributions of radioactivity and absorbed dose on the cellular scale remain elusive.
• Progress toward understanding α-TRT radiobiologic response, evaluating novel α-TRT drug efficacy, and optimizing administration for personalized treatments will require knowledge of radioactivity and absorbed dose distributions.
• A novel real-time α camera, the ionizing radiation quantum imaging detector (iQID), has successfully mapped the microdistribution of α-emitting radionuclides in mouse and human tissues [1].

This article examines South Korean propaganda aimed at influencing the public towards North Korea through the military-themed drama series Crash Landing on You interspersed with romantic stories typical of Korean dramas. The propaganda techniques used in the drama use glorification and demonization techniques. Total ankle arthroplasty (TAA) is a motion-preserving treatment for end-stage ankle arthritis. An effective tool for analyzing these implants’ mechanical performance and longevity in silico is finite element analysis (FEA). An FEA in ABAQUS was used to statically analyze the mechanical behavior of the ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) bearing component at varying dorsiflexion/plantarflexion ankle angles and axial loading conditions during the stance phase of the gait cycle for a single cycle. OBJECTIVE: This investigation examines burden of comorbidity measured by the Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) and Elixhauser Comorbidity Index (ECI) among inpatients based on age, sex, and race. METHODS: Cross-sectional analysis of 2012-2018 US NIS datasets. Participants were inpatients 55y+. ICD-9/10 codes for admitting diagnoses were used to calculate disease burden using the CCI and ECI. Unweighted mean CCI and ECI scores were compared across demographic variables. RESULTS: An increase in mean CCI and ECI scores across age, sex, and races (p < .001) was identified. Compared to the youngest age group (55-59y), all age groups had higher mean CCI and ECI adjusting for time (p < .001). Increases were greatest in older age groups until age 80-84 for CCI and 85-89 for ECI. The female group had lower CCI adjusting for time (p < .001) compared to males. There was no difference between sex groups in mean ECI (p=.409). Compared with the White group, all other race groups had higher mean CCI adjusting for time (p < .001). Black inpatients had the highest CCI followed by Native American inpatients. Findings were similar for ECI, but with no difference between Hispanic and White groups (p=.434). CONCLUSIONS: Growing multimorbidity burden among adult inpatients across age, sex, and race supports the continued need for programs for preventing and reducing multimorbidity, especially among communities that experience health inequity including older, Black, and Native American patients.

The Bear Essentials

Bear Essentials is an online newsletter published by the Student Activities Council of Des Moines Area Community College. The newsletter was established in early 2020 when DMACC closed its facilities due to the coronavirus pandemic. The newsletter covers topics such as upcoming virtual activities and events, college resources, and community service opportunities. When asked about the origins of the newsletter, Student Activities Advisor Erin Smith said, "We wanted students to know they were not alone, the entire DMACC Community was coming together to help support one another in any way possible."

Ganoderma lucidum is a medicinal mushroom that produces various pharmacological compounds, including triterpenoids. A major bioactive component of G. lucidum is ergosterol peroxide (EP), which is attributed to its anticancer effects. The current study focuses on the in vitro ADME (absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination), in vivo efficacy and toxicity of EP, and the synthesis of new EP derivatives to improve aqueous solubility. It was found that EP is metabolically stable in liver microsomes and plasma. In vivo studies showed that EP inhibits tumor growth in murine cancer models, and it is well tolerated by mice. The use of podcasts in Cooperative Extension programs continues to grow. Ongoing research shows the benefits of podcasting for formal education, non-formal education, connecting with distance learning, and reaching a broader audience. This article will provide readers with steps to create an educational podcast. This article will be of interest for Extension agents and Extension programs that are moving to, or can be complemented by, a digital platform. Extension professionals can consider using podcasts and podcast analytics to complement existing programming, impact reporting, and promotion.

La_0.6Sr_0.4Co_0.2Fe_0.8O_3−δ (LSCF) is the state-of-the-art air electrode material for solid oxide electrochemical cells using oxide-ion electrolytes, yet its application in proton ceramic electrochemical cells (PCCs) remains limited, mainly attributed to its instability under operating conditions of high temperature and high humidity. To address this issue, coating a PrCoO_3−δ (PCO) catalyst onto the LSCF scaffold has been evaluated in this study. The High-Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) Gamma-Ray Observatory, located on the side of the Sierra Negra volcano in Mexico, has been fully operational since 2015. The HAWC collaboration has recently significantly improved their extensive air shower reconstruction algorithms, which has notably advanced the observatory performance. The energy resolution for primary gamma rays with energies below 1 TeV was improved by including a noise-suppression algorithm. Corrections have also been made to systematic errors in direction fitting related to the detector and shower plane inclinations, O ( 0 .° 1 ) biases in highly inclined showers, and enhancements to the core reconstruction.
