This article explores two modes of hearing afforded by Fantasy on Old Hundred (2018), written for concert band by David R. Holsinger. On one hand, the piece works well even when approached from a secular perspective. On the other hand, familiarity with the hymn tune’s Christian texts and with evangelical theology allows engagement with a deeper network of associative meanings and their narrative implications. Part I of this article explores Holsinger’s choice of OLD HUNDREDTH for this composition, highlighting the musical resources of the tune and its associated texts centered on praise. William (Bill) Isaac honed his crisis management expertise during his tenure as chairman of the US Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) from 1981 to 1985 during the Savings and Loans (S&L) Crisis. He steered the agency through a volatile period marked by a sea of bank and thrift failures, most notably that of Continental Illinois National Bank and Trust Company. Abstract: Contemporary Chinese composers such as Zou Xiangping often engage Western compositional techniques to express Chinese cultural and spiritual imagery. In his instrumental solo work Images of Yalong River for Alto Saxophone and Piano, Zou effectively incorporates the Tibetan Buddhist six-syllable mantra “Om mani pedme hum” into a six-note sonority known as the “mantra chord.” Through transforming this chord, Zou aligns it with the descriptive and evocative program he created for the music. In its 2024 annual report, the GAO recognized the overlapping functions of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (“OSHA”) and the Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) in meat and poultry plants and how the two agencies have failed to effectively collaborate. Although both FSIS and OSHA have vested interests in ensuring healthy environments in meat and poultry plants, the administrative agencies have not developed a thorough approach for collaboration.

Charitable organizations often depend on public support to fulfill their missions. This is especially true in the charitable food system, a network of nonprofit organizations, including food banks, pantries, and meal programs, which provide no-cost food to those in need. Within this system, volunteers, donors, and food charities each play an important role, such as donating surplus food, directing traffic at food drives, stocking local pantries, and preparing and serving meals at soup kitchens. Feeding a larger world while preserving the resource that makes agriculture possible—soil—poses a governance problem. By 2050, food systems must support 9.8 billion people even as prevailing practices continue to degrade soils that are non-renewable on human timescales. Technological fixes (e.g., vertical farming, hydroponics) may complement production, but they cannot substitute for soil at scale. The question that follows is simple: are current uses of soil compatible with the future needs of food systems? Antimicrobials have been used in livestock and other food animals in the United States (“U.S.”) since the late 1940s. An antimicrobial is “[a]ny natural, synthetic, or semisynthetic substance that can eradicate or prevent the growth of microbes,” including “[a]ntibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic, and antiviral medications.” Antimicrobial use in food animals is subject to a complex statutory and regulatory framework at both the state and federal levels. Antimicrobial use in food animals has been widely criticized for contributing to antimicrobial-resistant bacterial infections in humans. Abstract. In this study, we introduce a variance swap for the underlying asset utilizing the Heston model, incorporating a long-term variance that is treated as a stochastic function of time. We develop a closed-form solution for the variance swap under this framework, where the log returns are driven by a compound Poisson process. Our analysis of historical data reveals that long-term variance is not constant; instead, it fluctuates over time, reflecting market dynamics more accurately. By integrating this time-varying long-term variance into the model, we achieve an improvement in prediction performance of approximately 60%. Furthermore, we perform model calibration using …

This article investigates the effect of ellagic acid isolated from Maclura pomifera fruit on the staling dynamics during the storage of bread products. The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of ellagic acid's antioxidant and antimicrobial properties in preserving the microbiological stability and technological quality of bread. Experiments were conducted on bread samples with ellagic acid added at concentrations of 0.05% and other levels. The results showed a slowdown in the staling process, as indicated by moisture content, water retention, shrinkage, and penetrometric measurements. The aim of this work is to analyze the photocatalytic degradation of a model methylene blue solution using titanium dioxide composites with zinc phthalocyanine as the sensitizing photocatalyst under sunlight. The objects of the study are TiO₂-based photocatalysts derived from the spent catalyst of the Shurtan GCC after heat treatment at 650°C (T-650), as well as a composite containing zinc phthalocyanine (T-650/PcZn). The aim of this study was to synthesize and systematically investigate the coordination compounds of several 3d metals with 2-(2-pyridyl)benzimidazole (2-PBI) using infrared (IR) spectroscopy. Complexes of copper(II), nickel(II), and cobalt(II) with the general formula [M(2-PBI)3](ClO₄)₂were successfully synthesized. Based on the analysis of the IR spectra, it was established that the 2-PBI ligand coordinates to the metal ion in a bidentate manner through the nitrogen atoms of the benzimidazole and pyridyl rings. Phosphogypsum, a large-scale industrial by-product generated during phosphoric acid production, poses significant environmental challenges due to its accumulation and potential ecological impact. This study investigates the utilization of phosphogypsum as a raw material for producing fertilizing ameliorants in combination with Central Kyzylkum phosphorites and biohumus. Composite mixtures were prepared and granulated using a 30% ammonium sulfate solution as a binding agent. The chemical composition, phase structure (XRD), and microstructure (SEM–EDS) of the obtained materials were analyzed.
