Thermal Management For Optimal Performance Of Unitized Regenerative Fuel Cells, Mythy T. Tran
Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Theses & Dissertations
As the race to net zero energy intensifies around the world, hydrogen production and fuel cell technologies are attracting more attention, and the technologies are growing rapidly. Together, hydrogen production and fuel cell technologies hold potential for a reliable, green, and sustainable energy system. Hydrogen is an excellent energy carrier and can be produced from various sources, especially green and renewable sources. Fuel cells generate electricity and water from hydrogen and oxygen. In reverse mode, fuel cells operate as electrolyzers to produce hydrogen and oxygen from electricity and water. However, the major drawback that keeps hydrogen and fuel cells from …
Investigating The Effects Of Empathy On Implicit Race Bias, Macy Kisiel
Investigating The Effects Of Empathy On Implicit Race Bias, Macy Kisiel
Psychology Theses & Dissertations
Over the years there have been changes to social norms, which now discourage expressions of prejudice, and changes in many people’s self-reported attitudes, but prejudice is still a major issue in present-day American society. One important step toward addressing prejudice and social injustices is to understand the psychological processes that underlie and strengthen them. The current study aimed to use an empathy passage to positively prime the schema about a minority person of color and manipulate regulation of implicit bias. The study utilized a mixed 2 × 2 design. Sixty-four participants (Mage = 20.88 years, SD = 4.75 years) were …
A Self Consistent 2d Simulation Of Coherent Synchrotron Radiation Effects On Beam Dynamics, Dallan Duffin
A Self Consistent 2d Simulation Of Coherent Synchrotron Radiation Effects On Beam Dynamics, Dallan Duffin
Physics Theses & Dissertations
An increasing interest in high quality and high current electron beams necessitates a thorough understanding and prediction of coherent synchrotron radiation effects. The self-interaction of charged particles in a beam undergoing synchrotron motion is a physically significant process that is all too often computationally intensive with very little analytical results to rely on for the general case. The coherent spectrum of this interaction is of utmost importance to the design of free electron lasers (FELs) and an accurate assessment is imperative for their design. This work presents a novel implementation to the numerical simulation of charged particle beams. The simulation …

Educational Leadership & Workforce Development Theses & Dissertations
Student affairs has a problem due to staff attrition (Rosser & Javinar, 2003). Most professionals leave the field due to job dissatisfaction, unhealthy work environments, high stress, and low morale (Marshall et al., 2016; Rosser & Javinar, 2003). Researchers have identified a relationship between job stress and burnout and intentions to leave the field of student affairs (Mullen et al., 2018). Turnover of positions is financially detrimental to the institution due to the cost of recruitment, hiring, and training the replacement employee (Agovino, 2019). In addition to the financial impact, when mid-level managers leave, there is a loss of institutional …

Previous research has demonstrated therapeutic potential for VMAT2 inhibitors in rat models of methamphetamine use disorder. Here, we report on the neurochemical and behavioral effects of 1-(2-methoxyphenethyl)-4-phenethypiperazine (JPC-141), a novel analog of lobelane. JPC-141 potently inhibited (Ki = 52 nM) [3H]dopamine uptake by VMAT2 in striatal vesicles with 50 to 250-fold greater selectivity for VMAT2 over dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin plasmalemma transporters. Also, JPC-141 was 57-fold more selective for inhibiting VMAT2 over [3H]dofetilide binding to hERG channels expressed by HEK293, suggesting relatively low potential for cardiotoxicity. When administered in vivo to rats, JPC-141 prevented the METH-induced reduction in striatal dopamine …

The tendency for individuals to mind wander is often measured using experience sampling methods in which probe questions embedded within computerized cognitive tasks attempt to catch episodes of off-task thought at random intervals during task performance. However, mind-wandering probe questions and response options are often chosen ad hoc and vary between studies with extant little guidance as to the psychometric consequences of these methodological decisions. In the present study, we examined the psychometric properties of several common approaches for assessing mind wandering using methods from item response theory (IRT). IRT latent modeling demonstrated that measurement information was generally distributed across …

Voltage-Controlled Spintronics And Fundamentals Of Magnetoelectricity In Magnetoelectric Antiferromagnetic Chromia, Syed Qamar Abbas Shah
Dissertations and Doctoral Documents, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2023–
Spintronics, which exploits both the spin and charge of electrons, offers a path to more energy-efficient and functionally enhanced devices compared to traditional CMOS electronics. A significant development in this field is voltage-controlled spintronics, where electric fields manipulate magnetic and spin states without the large power dissipation seen in current-based technologies. Among the materials explored for this purpose, magnetoelectric (ME) antiferromagnetic (AFM) materials show promise for energy-efficient, non-volatile memory technologies. Controlling AFM ordering via voltage application is essential for realizing these devices.
This dissertation focuses on ME AFM materials, specifically chromia (Cr2O3), to advance voltage-controlled spintronics. …
