Combinatorial Anti-Cancer Effect Of Polypurine Reverse Hoogsteen Hairpins Against Kras And Myc Targeting In Prostate And Pancreatic Cancer Cell Lines, Simonas Valiuska, Kayla K. Elder, Steven J. Mckay, Carlos J. Ciudad, Véronique Noé, Tracy A. Brooks

Pharmacy Faculty Scholarship

Introduction: KRAS and MYC are proto-oncogenes that are strictly regulated in healthy cells that have key roles in several processes such as cell growth, proliferation, differentiation, or apoptosis. These genes are tightly interconnected, and their dysregulation can lead to cancer progression. We previously individually targeted these oncogenes using Polypurine Reverse Hoogsteen (PPRH) hairpins, mostly targeting the complementary strand of G-quadruplex-forming sequences. We validated them in vitro in different cancer cell lines with deregulated KRAS and/or MYC. In this work we focused on our understanding of the cooperative dynamics between these oncogenes, by investigating the combined impact of PPRHs targeting KRAS …

The Moderate Use Of Wine And Alcohol Among Church Elders: An Analysis Of Νηφάλιον And Πάροινον In 1 Timothy 3:1-7 And Titus 1:5-9, Charles Douglas Tarver Miller Oct 2024

The Moderate Use Of Wine And Alcohol Among Church Elders: An Analysis Of Νηφάλιον And Πάροινον In 1 Timothy 3:1-7 And Titus 1:5-9, Charles Douglas Tarver Miller

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The use of alcohol in the Bible is well established. The ancients were known to consume alcohol and fully understood the pain and pleasure associated with it. So, two things are true: the use of wine is permitted in the Scriptures, but only in moderation. Historically, the conversation about the use of wine has focused on answering the question, “Was the wine used by believers in the Scriptures alcoholic or non-alcoholic?” That debate has largely been settled and will not be the subject of this dissertation. What has not been addressed nearly as often is the question, “How was wine …

Comparison Of Redevelopment Policies, Gentrification, And Disparate Impact In Tallahassee, Dallas, And San Diego, William Dorsey

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Previous studies found that the economics of poverty are closely tied to property values, education, and employment. Racial disparity in income also exists today. Part of this is attributed to mass gentrification through Urban Renewal Administration programs that legally displaced entire Black neighborhoods under the purview of the Housing Act of 1954 prior to the Fair Housing Act of 1968. For example, Harlem Park was vacated and redeveloped using eminent domain. Critical Race theorists claim that these programs continue today using colorblind policies and secondary discrimination. This dissertation sought to develop a theoretical understanding of the impact ideology has on …

Educating Providers On The Utility Of Pharmacogenomic Testing, Angela L. Holloman Oct 2024

Educating Providers On The Utility Of Pharmacogenomic Testing, Angela L. Holloman

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Pharmacogenomic testing is the use of an individual’s genotype to help determine their response to certain medications metabolized by the cytochrome P450 enzyme family. This information can help to prevent adverse drug effects and guide medication selection and dosing. This testing is becoming more widely utilized and more commonly available. It is now available as a direct-to-consumer test. Many providers lack the necessary education in pharmacogenomics to utilize this technology or discuss it with their patients. Educational interventions for providers are effective at improving provider knowledge and confidence regarding pharmacogenomic testing. This practice project sought to educate providers at a …

The Shared Experiences Of The Effectiveness Of Christian Mindfulness Meditation For Adult Evangelical Christians In Florida Experiencing Ptsd Symptomatology, Loraine Yvonne Pennant

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Mindfulness meditation, though secular in origin, is a distinct Christian principle found in the Bible and are practices that Christians in general subconsciously subscribe to especially in times of traumatic stress. When adapted to reflect Christian principles, this practice should retain the basic concepts of mindfulness meditation while safeguarding the integrity of the biblical tenet. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to understand and describe the shared experiences of the effectiveness of Christian mindfulness meditation of adult evangelical Christians in Florida suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder symptomology. A gap in literature exploring the topics of Christian rumination (meditation) and …

Teachers’ Perceptions Of Preparedness For Instruction During And After Collaborative Planning, Alicia Daniels Oct 2024

Teachers’ Perceptions Of Preparedness For Instruction During And After Collaborative Planning, Alicia Daniels

Student Theses and Dissertations

Providing differentiated learning experiences for every student is one of the goals behind teacher collaboration (Reeves, 2003, Byrd, 2020). The problem examined in this study was that collaborative planning has been used as a solution to improve instructional quality in low-resourced schools, without assessing the effectiveness of that solution through the eyes of classroom teachers who taught solo. This problem affects teachers who must meet students’ needs during instruction and students who need access to quality instruction to experience success academically. The purpose of this study was to collect the perspectives of teachers who were currently teaching in an urban …

Poetry For The Lord Instead Of The World: A Study Of The Romantic Poets, The Imposters, And Our Response As Christians, Annabelle Camoirano

Masters Theses

When I was a little girl, I watched my grandfather read all the time. He had shelves full of books stacked on more books. My grandparents had an entire room dedicated to holding the books he’d read over the years. Almost 5 years ago now, we had to move my grandparents out of the home that they had lived in for over 40 years. Going through all those books, my dad found one he knew I had to have. I have always loved collecting old books, and one of my favorite older poets is Edgar Allen Poe. My dad found …

Environmentalism And Antitrust, Albert H. Choi, Daniel A. Crane Oct 2024

Environmentalism And Antitrust, Albert H. Choi, Daniel A. Crane

Law & Economics Working Papers

In recent years, there has been a proliferation of interest concerning environmental issues and the application of the antitrust laws. Numerous commentators, for instance, have argued that the antitrust enforcement should adjust to reflect the environmental harm (or benefit) that is generated from a competitive condition. In this paper, we take a step back and argue that analysis of the intersection between antitrust and environmentalism should begin with more mundane questions of economics. More specifically, we argue that environmental regulations can inform antitrust analysis by considering (at least) three issues: (1) the impact of environmental regulation on the firms' production …

Tax Delegation Post-Loper Bright, Reuven S. Avi-Yonah Oct 2024

Tax Delegation Post-Loper Bright, Reuven S. Avi-Yonah

Law & Economics Working Papers

In its recent decision in Loper Bright, the Supreme Court has fundamentally shifted the contours of judicial deference to administrative interpretations by repealing the Chevron doctrine. However, while the Court has curtailed deference, it simultaneously underscored the legitimacy of statutory delegation to agencies. The Internal Revenue Code (Code) is the most intricate legislative text within the U.S. legal framework, necessitating significant technical expertise for its application. It is, therefore, unsurprising that Congress often delegates authority to the IRS for the execution of the statute. In light of the Court's decision in Loper Bright, it becomes imperative to clarify the parameters …

Coopetition In Heterogeneous Cross-Silo Federated Learning, Chao Huang, Justin Dachille, Xin Liu Oct 2024

Coopetition In Heterogeneous Cross-Silo Federated Learning, Chao Huang, Justin Dachille, Xin Liu

School of Computing Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

In cross-silo federated learning (FL), companies collaboratively train a shared global model without sharing heterogeneous data. Prior related work focused on algorithm development to tackle data heterogeneity. However, the dual problem of coopetition, i.e., FL collaboration and market competition, remains under-explored. This paper studies the FL coopetition using a dynamic two-period game model. In period 1, an incumbent company trains a local model and provides model-based services at a chosen price to users. In period 2, an entrant company enters, and both companies decide whether to engage in FL collaboration and then compete in selling model-based services at different prices …

Rootzone Soil Moisture Dynamics Using Terrestrial Water-Energy Coupling, Vinit Sehgal, Binayak P. Mohanty, Rolf H. Reichle Oct 2024

Rootzone Soil Moisture Dynamics Using Terrestrial Water-Energy Coupling, Vinit Sehgal, Binayak P. Mohanty, Rolf H. Reichle

Faculty Publications

A lack of high-density rootzone soil moisture (θRZ) observations limits the estimation of continental-scale, space-time contiguous θRZ dynamics. We derive a proxy of daily θRZ dynamics — active rootzone degree of saturation (SRZ) — by recursive low-pass (LP) filtering of surface soil moisture (θS) within a terrestrial water-energy coupling (WEC) framework. We estimate the LP filter parameters and WEC thresholds for the piecewise-linear coupling between SRZ and evaporative fraction (EF) at remote sensing and field scale over the Contiguous U.S. We use θS from the Soil Moisture Active-Passive (SMAP) satellite and 218 in-situ stations, with EF from the Moderate Resolution …

Contributions Of Speaking, Listening, And Semantic Depth To Word Learning In Typical 3- And 4-Year-Olds, Peter Richtsmeier, Allison Gladfelter, Michelle Moore Oct 2024

Contributions Of Speaking, Listening, And Semantic Depth To Word Learning In Typical 3- And 4-Year-Olds, Peter Richtsmeier, Allison Gladfelter, Michelle Moore

CISLL Publications

Purpose: This study examined learning via perception, learning via production, and semantic depth as contributors to word learning in preschool-aged children. There is broad evidence that semantic depth is an important contributor to word learning, especially when semantic cues are repeated and spaced out over time. Perceptual learning and production learning each support word learning sometimes, but not in all cases. The purpose of this study was to examine all three learning mechanisms within a single experimental paradigm.

Method: Thirty-six typically developing preschool children completed the experiment. They were familiarized with 16 novel words that were contextualized as alien names. …

A Phenomenological Study Of Novice Special Education Teachers' Experience Applying Causal Attributions To Challenging Behavior, Mandy Marie Augst

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to describe novice special education teachers’ experiences attributing causes to challenging behaviors in U.S. public schools. This study was guided by Bernard Weiner’s attribution theory of motivation. This framework allowed for the examination of teachers’ causal attributions for challenging behavior as well as their personal motivation in responding to challenging behaviors. This study's central research question focused on novice special education teachers’ experiences attributing causes to challenging behavior. The researcher employed a transcendental phenomenological approach, engaging participants as co-researchers to understand their lived experiences. A sample of 11 participants was recruited from …
