Community, Conflict, And Confidence Tricks: Documenting The History Of The Nashville Christian Institute 1942-1967, Jan Cohu, Michaela Rutledge

Faculty Works

When the Nashville Christian Institute, an African-American church of Christ K-12 school, closed its doors in 1967, Lipscomb’s library inherited the school’s documents. In the spring of 2024, Beaman Library decided to publish these documents in our Carolyn Wilson Digital Collections. Before publishing them, we asked graduates of the school for help with identifying and labeling photos and other significant items. Thanks to the NCI community’s efforts, Beaman Library is now able to present a comprehensive online collection of photos, letters, board meeting minutes, and other documents that tell the history of the school at a pivotal moment in U.S. …

In Loco Reipublicae And The Parental Duty To Expose Children To Ideas Outside The Home, Catherine Smith

Scholarly Articles

In Loco Reipublicaie boldly centers children’s rights and adeptly fills an existing jurisprudential gap by infusing parental rights with important duties to respect and facilitate children’s exercise of their own citizenship rights. It is a children’s-rights-forward shot across a heavily prioritized parents’ rights bow. It’s about time.

An Evaluation Of Self-Monitoring For Increasing Physical Activity, Holly Wiggins Sep 2024

An Evaluation Of Self-Monitoring For Increasing Physical Activity, Holly Wiggins

Doctoral Dissertations

There are numerous benefits to engaging in daily moderate-to-vigorous physical activity, including improved bone health, better academic performance, and reduced symptoms of depression (CDC, 2016). Given the importance of increasing exercise for improved health outcomes, behavior analysts should consider increased physical activity as a therapeutic goal. Although self-monitoring has been demonstrated to be effective at increasing physical activity within a multicomponent intervention, the relative efficacy of self-monitoring alone for increasing physical activity is unknown. The purpose of this study was to extend the self-monitoring and physical activity literature by evaluating a component analysis of self-monitoring for increasing physical activity engagement …

L-Phenylalanine And Trans-Cinnamic Acid Combined With Fe3o4-Nps Treatment Induce Oxidative Stress And Enhances Alkaloid Production In Narcissus Tazetta L. By Increasing Pal And N4omt Gene Expression, Ladan Bayat, Azra Saboora, Ezat Asgarani, Mahboobeh Zarrabi

Turkish Journal of Botany

The medicinal properties of narcissus plants are attributed to the presence of Amaryllidaceae alkaloids. Elicitors, such as nanoparticles, are employed to enhance the production of secondary metabolites through signaling and the generation of reactive oxygen species. We investigated the effects of Fe3 O4 nanoparticles (Fe3 O4 -NPs), trans-cinnamic acid (tCA), and L-phenylalanine (L-Phe) precursors on various physiological and biochemical parameters in Narcissus tazetta L., with a particular focus on alkaloid content. Fe3 O4 - NPs treatment significantly increased photosynthetic pigments, secondary metabolites (including alkaloids, phenolic compounds), total soluble carbohydrates, and polysaccharides. The activities of antioxidant enzymes (SOD, CAT, POD), phenylalanine …

Turkish Journal of Botany

Cyclic nucleotide-gated ion channel (CNGC) is one of the important calcium conducting channels and involves in numerous biological functions such as plant development, phytohormone responses, plant-pathogen interactions. Nevertheless, identification of CNGC gene family has yet not been carried out in date palm crop. In this study, genome-wide identification, and pharmacological analysis of date CNGCs was conducted against fungal pathogens. The 26 PdCNGC genes were identified by using extensive bioinformatics tools. Gene ontology (GO) analysis showed that signal transduction, transmembrane transport and ion binding proteins were at the top in biological process and molecular functions of PdCNGCs. Protein-protein interaction of PdCNGCs …

Exploring Indigenous Climate Change Perceptions Through Tribal Talking Circles In The Colorado Plateau, Bayli Hanson, Roslynn Brain Mccann, Danielle Smiley Sep 2024

Exploring Indigenous Climate Change Perceptions Through Tribal Talking Circles In The Colorado Plateau, Bayli Hanson, Roslynn Brain Mccann, Danielle Smiley

Environment and Society Student Research

Marginalized communities, including Indigenous populations, experience climate change at a more extreme rate given where they live, despite their knowledge of and connection to the land. Due to this interconnection, there have been many negative impacts on cultural identities in correlation with climate change. For example, Indigenous communities that continue growing food, hunting and foraging on traditional lands now face increasingly limited resources due to changes in the land itself. To better understand Tribal experiences with our changing climate, this qualitative research study involved talking circles with Tribal members in the Colorado Plateau region of the United States. Specifically, our …

The Relationship Between The Clinical Scales Of The Personality Assessment Inventory And Bmi Reduction In Bariatric Surgery Patients, Douglas Lytz Sep 2024

The Relationship Between The Clinical Scales Of The Personality Assessment Inventory And Bmi Reduction In Bariatric Surgery Patients, Douglas Lytz

Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)

Since the National Institute of Health recommendation in 1991, most bariatric clinics and insurance companies across the United States now require psychological evaluations for patients before receiving bariatric surgery (Marek & Heinberg, 2016). Clinicians are now using various objective personality measures and other assessment tools during comprehensive evaluations to help make recommendations to surgeons and clinical staff about patient suitability for weight loss surgery. Previous studies suggest that specific demographics and clinical elevations on objective personality assessments may predict the reduction of body mass index (BMI) in patients after bariatric surgery (Oltmanns et al., 2020; Hoyt & Walter, 2022a). This …
