Harnessing The Power Of Integrated Behavioral Health To Enhance Insomnia Intervention In Primary Care, Rebecca L. Campbell, Ana Bridges
Harnessing The Power Of Integrated Behavioral Health To Enhance Insomnia Intervention In Primary Care, Rebecca L. Campbell, Ana Bridges
Psychological Science Faculty Publications and Presentations
Insomnia is prevalent in primary care and associated with co-morbid physical and mental health conditions and poor health outcomes. While there are effective treatments for insomnia in specialty mental health care, many patients have difficulty accessing these interventions. To begin, patients do not always report their sleep challenges to physicians; meanwhile, primary care providers often do not screen for insomnia symptoms. Furthermore, patients may experience several barriers to accessing specialty care for insomnia treatment, such as a limited number of available providers, financial burden, lack of transportation, and low perceptions of treatment effectiveness. Primary care behavioral health (PCBH) is well-equipped …

Advances In Hodgkin Lymphoma: Diagnosis Characteristics And Molecular Approaches, Xiaomin Peng, Ms
Student Papers, Posters & Projects
Hodgkin Lymphoma (HL) is a B-cell lymphoma with two distinct entities: classical Hodgkin Lymphoma (cHL) and Nodular Lymphocyte Predominant Hodgkin Lymphoma (NLPHL). Based on different tumor microenvironments, cHL is divided into four subtypes: Nodular Sclerosis CHL (NSCHL), Mixed Cellularity CHL (MCCHL), Lymphocyte-Depleted CHL (LDCHL), and Lymphocyte-Rich CHL (LRCHL). cHL and NLPHL have similar histology features, low concentration of malignant cells within abundant inflammation, the most significant difference is the molecular profiles of Reed-Sternberg (RS) cells and Lymphocyte Predominant (LP) cells. HL has a high cure rate with frontline treatment, but a small percentage of patients do not achieve treatment success, …

Impact Of Body Mass Index And Vo2 Max On Symptoms, Physical Activity, And Physical Function In A Multinational Sample Of People With Hiv, Christine Horvat Davey, Deepesh Duwadi
Faculty Scholarship
People with HIV (PWH) are at increased risk for metabolic disorders affecting body mass index (BMI), chronic symptoms, and impaired physical function and capacity. Although physical activity improves health and well-being, PWH often do not meet activity recommendations necessary to achieve these benefits. Despite the known impact of symptoms, physical activity, and physical function on health, little is known about the relationships and interactions between these variables and BMI and maximum oxygen consumption during exercise (VO2 max) in a multinational population of PWH. We examined the relationship of BMI with PROMIS-29 measures, physical activity, strength, flexibility, and VO2 max in …
Comparing Costs And Predictors Of Low-Value Healthcare Service Use Among Primary Care Nurse Practitioners In The Southwest United States, Sara B. Nugent
Comparing Costs And Predictors Of Low-Value Healthcare Service Use Among Primary Care Nurse Practitioners In The Southwest United States, Sara B. Nugent
Nursing ETDs
Low-value healthcare services (LVHSs) are unsupported by current evidence, associated with harmful patient outcomes, and equate to over $100 billion in wasteful spending annually. The aims of this descriptive, comparative study were to establish baseline prevalence and costs associated with LVHS use among primary care nurse practitioners (NPs), and to test the influence of different geographical regions and patient populations. A secondary data analysis of the Merative™ MarketScan® 2021 databases was conducted. LVHS prevalence was lower or fairly equal to that of other studies, and direct claim costs were very-low cost. Extremely high low-value lumbar radiographic imaging claim costs were …

Background and Aims: Pancreatic stellate cells (PSCs) are critical mediators in chronic pancreatitis with an undefined role in acute pancreatitis (AP). PSCs consist of a heterogenous group of cells and are considered interchangeable with pancreatic fibroblasts. This study explored the heterogeneous nature of PSCs by characterizing pancreatic collagen-expressing fibroblasts (PCFs) via lineage tracing in mouse normal and AP pancreas and determining the effect of PCF depletion in AP. Methods: Tandem dimer Tomato (tdTom+) PCFs in collagen type 1 (Col1)a2CreERtdTomato (Tom) mice receiving tamoxifen were characterized via fluorescence, Oil Red staining, and flow cytometry. AP was induced by cerulein, AP injury …

The COVID-19 pandemic precipitated an abrupt transition to online learning, impacting students with disabilities uniquely. This study examines the experiences of 62 such students in the new educational paradigm, employing a mixed-methods approach. Quantitative data were collected through surveys and questionnaires to assess privacy and security concerns arising from online learning tools. Qualitative insights were gathered via interviews and focus groups, revealing that while students appreciate the flexibility of online learning, they express a critical need for enhanced guidance and support. Neurodiverse students, in particular, emphasized the necessity of a secure online environment. Addressing these challenges, our research integrates blockchain …

This work applies the modular reduction technique to the Coxeter group of rank 4 having a star diagram with labels 5, 3, and k = 3,4,5, or 6. As moduli, we use the primes in the quadratic integer ring Z[τ], where τ = (1+√5)/2, the golden ratio. We prove that each reduced group is a C-group, regardless of the prime used in the reduction. We also classify each reduced group as a reflection group over a finite field, whenever applicable.

Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
There are many economic environments in which an object is offered sequentially to prospective buyers. It is often observed that once the object for sale is turned down by one or more agents, those that follow do the same. One explanation for this phenomenon is that agents making choices further down the line rationally ignore their own assessment of the object and herd behind their predecessors. Our research extends the canonical herding model by allowing agents to differ in their ability to assess the quality of the offered object. We develop novel tests of herding based on this ability heterogeneity …
Inference In A Stationary/Nonstationary Autoregressive Time-Varying-Parameter Model, Donald W.K. Andrews, Ming Li
Inference In A Stationary/Nonstationary Autoregressive Time-Varying-Parameter Model, Donald W.K. Andrews, Ming Li
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
This paper considers nonparametric estimation and inference in first-order autoregressive (AR(1)) models with deterministically time-varying parameters. A key feature of the proposed approach is to allow for time-varying stationarity in some time periods, time-varying nonstationarity (i.e., unit root or local-to-unit root behavior) in other periods, and smooth transitions between the two. The estimation of the AR parameter at any time point is based on a local least squares regression method, where the relevant initial condition is endogenous. We obtain limit distributions for the AR parameter estimator and t-statistic at a given point τ in time when the parameter exhibits unit …

Bargaining For Justice: Ukraine, Gaza, And The Ethics Of Conflict Termination, C. Anthony Pfaff

As wars in Ukraine and Gaza continue with little end in sight, the sense of urgency to determine how they should end is increasing, given how the wars could end. A just war aims to establish a better state of peace, but a better state of peace may not always be achievable, and even when it is achievable, it may not be good enough. When that is the case, actors must determine on what terms to settle, given what they think they can achieve based on relative capabilities and cost tolerances. The resulting “maximin” solution, a …

This research examines the impact of financially assisted homeownership for Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity home recipients as measured in life satisfaction. We develop and assess a model with homeownership as the independent variable and financial well-being, current health, and psychological well-being as mediating variables that impact life satisfaction. We utilize data from 184 Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity homeowners and applicants to test the model. The findings show that homeownership through Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity is related to life satisfaction. That relationship is partially mediated by financial well-being, current health, and psychological well-being, where the mediating variables amplify …

In 1856, Leidy rst identied Troodontidae as a taxonomic unit. It was not until 1945 that C.M. Sternberg assigned it to a family status. There has been much debate on taxonomic naming in this family, but in 1987, Currie conated all previous names into a single species, Troodon formosus. On the basis of isolated teeth, Carpenter (1982) suggested a second species, Pectinodon bakkeri from the Lance Formations. With limited specimens (24), Longrich (2008) proposed tooth positioning for the 4 tooth types he dened. This was especially challenging since no cranial or post-cranial skeletal structures have yet been identied.

The landlord initiated a holdover proceeding against the tenant seeking to recover the premises based on the expiration and non-renewal of the tenant's lease. The landlord argued that the tenant owed rent arrears and that this constituted a "good cause" for eviction under the Good Cause Eviction Law (GCEL). However, the court dismissed the petition, finding that GCEL does not allow a holdover based solely on a tenant owing rent arrears and that the landlord's legal remedy is to commence a nonpayment proceeding. The court emphasized that the legislature intended to impose additional conditions to evict tenants covered by GCEL …

Effects Of Microplastic Biofilms On An Anthropogenically Impacted Suburban Lake, Paris M. Velasquez
Masters Theses
Plastics have been observed in every location on the planet, and their prevalence in the environment is due in part to their strong resistance to degradation. Inland lakes are susceptible to plastic pollution by highway runoff, which contains plastic fragments of brake pads, car tires, litter, and road paint. These plastics eventually enter freshwater environments and degrade into microplastics (

A Delphi Study On The Use Of Simulation In Undergraduate Nursing Education, Diana L. Bailey
Dissertations
The lack of traditional clinical sites for nursing students has prompted a surge in simulation as an innovative teaching strategy in undergraduate nursing education. The International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INASCL) developed the INACSL Standards of Best Practice: SimulationSM to direct schools of nursing in implementing high-quality simulations. As simulated experiences replace traditional clinical experiences, it is imperative that simulated experiences replicate real-life patient scenarios. The purpose of this Delphi study was to establish consensus on the use of the INACSL Standards of Best Practice: Simulation in undergraduate nursing education. The conceptual frameworks guiding this study were …
