Robust And Generalizable Representations In The Hippocampus, Hung-Tu Chen

An intelligent system must balance generalizing across similar experiences with maintaining the distinctiveness of each experience. This thesis explores how the hippocampus manages this balance through its neural representations to support adaptive behavior. In Chapter 1, I provide an overview of key hippocampal phenomena that contribute to this process, including remapping, splitter signal, and replay. In Chapter 2, I challenge the concept of random remapping by showing that it is possible to predict, better than chance, how a given experience will be encoded in the hippocampus across different subjects. BACKGROUND: Both clomiphene citrate and its isomer, enclomiphene, have become widespread within urologic practice; thus, understanding these medications' comparative benefits and risks is crucial for optimizing treatment and providing improved therapeutic options. We sought to investigate the longitudinal benefits and risks associated with enclomiphene, compared to clomiphene, and to provide valuable insights for clinicians when making treatment decisions in the management of hypogonadism.

METHODS: We retrospectively studied patients at our academic center who had been prescribed clomiphene and, later, enclomiphene for hypogonadism. Baseline laboratory values were documented for each patient before being prescribed clomiphene, followed by subsequent values for each …

The Bureau of Prisons knew or should have known that it was relying on an inaccurate PSR. Yet, it failed to take any action to obtain correct information until Freeman discovered that BOP had been treating him as if he were a contract killer who had murdered two victims—effectively punishing him for acquitted conduct contrary to a court order. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Water Ambulance Service by the DKI Jakarta Health Office using the Context, Input, Process, Product (CIPP) program evaluation approach. How functional relationships between policies influence policy design and policy change has received relatively limited attention within public policy scholarship despite the importance of policy coordination. This article contributes to addressing this gap by introducing the Anchoring Policies Perspective (APP), a framework for analysing interactions between policies in functional policy hierarchies. The APP examines how formal links between anchoring policies (AP) and functionally subordinate policies (SP) generate anchoring effects, whereby the provisions codified in APs generate alignment pressures that channel the design of SPs towards the norms and goals of the AP. BACKGROUND: This pilot study evaluates the effectiveness of mobile talk-time incentives in maintaining participation in a longitudinal mobile health (mHealth) data collection program among people living with HIV in Lusaka, Zambia. While mHealth tools, such as mobile phone surveys, provide vital health feedback, optimal incentive strategies to ensure long-term engagement remain limited. This study explores how different incentive levels affect response rates in multiple survey rounds, providing insights into effective methods for encouraging ongoing participation, especially in the context of Zambia's prepaid mobile system and multi-SIM usage, a common practice in sub-Saharan Africa.

BACKGROUND: Fibroids are non-cancerous uterine growths that can cause symptoms impacting quality of life. The breadth of treatment options allows for patient-centered preference. While conversation aids are known to facilitate shared decision making, the implementation of these aids for uterine fibroids treatments is limited. We aimed to develop two end-user-acceptable uterine fibroids conversation aids for an implementation project. Online Behavioral Advertising (OBA), a recently emerging format of internet advertising, targets users based on their past online behaviors. This study examines the impact of OBA on consumer attitudes and impulse buying behavior, while exploring the moderating influence of privacy concerns, a crucial factor given that OBA relies on personal data collection. To test our conceptual model, we conducted surveys in Korea and France, to further analyze the potential cultural distinctions. This study employs a hierarchical component model to examine reuse intentions among experienced carsharing service users in South Korea, focusing on how various perceptions of benefits and risks impact their decisions. It also explores the influences of self-efficacy, gender, and service usage experience on these perceptions and reuse intentions. Findings highlight that male users are primarily driven by functional benefits such as accessibility and convenience, whereas female users are more responsive to hedonic benefits. Users with high self-efficacy prioritize economic benefits, whereas those with more usage experience prioritize functional benefits. This study leverages group-based control theory to explore how fresh starts reinvigorate consumers with low motivation to engage in collective environmental efforts. Typically, individuals with low control over their circumstances show less inclination toward collective goals. However, fresh starts can enhance the influence of perceived control on collective environmental engagement, with global identity mediating this relationship. This hypothesis was supported by two empirical studies. This study examines how a model's pose that signals power influences consumers' recall ability of price information in advertisements. To extend prior findings on social judgments, we suggest that the direction of consumers' gaze and willingness to pay attention to the model vary depending on the model's pose. Study 1 explores how consumers' perception of the power of the model affects their price recall ability. This study identifies barriers that African American women encounter while accessing substance use disorder treatment in San Joaquin County and Sacramento County. There is a gap in research identifying barriers that African American women encounter while accessing substance use disorder treatment. The researcher conducted semi-structured interviews with 5 women. Three themes emerged; perceived racial bias, lack of family support, and believing they did not need treatment. It is recommended that healthcare providers provide more treatment options for African American women and cultural competency training for substance use disorder providers.

Health inequities refer to avoidable, unjust differences in health outcomes caused by systemic disadvantages rooted in social, economic, and environmental contexts (Braveman, 2014). Health disparities refer to differences in health outcomes between groups, often measured by prevalence, morbidity, or mortality (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2020). Health inequalities are measurable differences in health status that may arise from biological, social, or environmental factors (World Health Organization [WHO], 2019). Partisan Bias occurs when an election results in a party gleaning a significantly different proportion of legislative seats than the proportion of votes cast for that party. It can be strategically produced via gerrymandering and is thought by many to threaten the basic principles of democracy. This research uses the 2022 state election results to compute statewide measures of Partisan Bias, then analyzes the correlation with controversial state social policies. Results showed that the redistricting method used and the percent of the party’s legislators were related to Partisan Bias.
