This article proposes an integrative framework for embedding career readiness into advanced Russian language teaching. Drawing on the experience of a U.S. Russian Flagship Program, the authors argue that career readiness requires deliberate programmatic choices: a proficiency level sufficient for meaningful disciplinary engagement and study abroad immersion; a flexible open-architecture curriculum that admits interdisciplinarity into the core of the program; faculty preparation that makes embedded career advising possible; and institutional partnerships that give language work standing in professional contexts. As Slavic language programs seek to align their curricula with workforce needs, the role of Russian and other Slavic languages in military and government service presents unique challenges and opportunities. This paper examines how linguistic training, particularly in Russian, can be better structured for students at American universities and colleges who wish to pursue government and security-related careers. Drawing on 30 interviews with native and non-native Russian speakers serving in the U.S. Army, this study explores the implications of using Russian as a lingua franca for U.S. military cooperation with former Soviet states. Responding to concerns about the long-term value of foreign language education, this exploratory survey-based study examines how Russian language learners (N = 321) continued to use the language after completing a summer immersion program. The study investigates language use in personal and professional contexts and identifies resources alumni used, recommended, and needed to maintain proficiency. Although opportunities for conversational practice were limited, and interaction in Russian was one of the activities alumni needed but often viewed as unattainable, about 60% of participants continued using Russian at least occasionally. The Palestinian-Israeli conflict remains one of the major challenges in building sustainable peace through diplomacy. This study analyzes the role of emotions and perceptions in Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations through the perspective of diplomacy psychology. Using an integrative literature review and an integrated theory approach that combines psychological theories and international relations theories, this study synthesizes empirical and conceptual findings on the Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiation process. The results of the analysis show that negative emotions such as fear, hatred, and anger worsen diplomatic relations and hinder peace deals. The Efficiency-Profitability Paradox: A Comparative Analysis Of Digital And Conventional Customer Acquisition In Islamic Banking, Andra Prayudha

Journal of Middle East and Islamic Studies

This study investigates the strategic dilemma faced by banking institutions in allocating resources between digital and conventional customer acquisition channels. Using a unique panel dataset from 38 Islamic bank branches, we analyze the comparative effectiveness of digital (Online Onboarding) and conventional (Payroll and Branch Registration) strategies on branch-level financial performance. Our findings reveal a significant efficiency-profitability paradox: a digital-dominant strategic orientation is associated with superior operational efficiency but does not translate into higher profitability. Furthermore, our analysis uncovers a critical nuance in conventional strategies through the discovery of inconsistent mediation: the institutional Payroll channel, while directly boosting margins, simultaneously erodes …

Religious Trauma And Social Identity Af Santri: A Qualitative Study In A Pesantren Environment, Himmatuz Zakiyah

This qualitative study examines religious trauma experiences among Santri in a modern Indonesian pesantren, focusing on how teachers weaponize Qur'anic verses and hadiths as tools of symbolic violence. Data were collected through semi structured interviews with five Santri and alumni from Bumi Shalawat Islamic Boarding School, a pseudonym. Findings reveal that selective quotation, decontextualization, and threat based hermeneutics, which I term scriptural violence, are systematically used to enforce conformity, suppress doubt, and induce shame. This scriptural violence operates through three mechanisms. Theological gaslighting denies Santri's interpretive agency. Eschatological blackmail threatens divine punishment. Prophetic proof texting misuses hadiths to legitimize authoritarian …

This study develops a fractional-order tumor-immune interaction model incorporating Caputo memory effects, delayed immune activation, and CTLA-4 checkpoint regulation. The model describes the coupled dynamics of tumor cells, CD4^+ T cells, IFN-γ, and CTLA-4, and extends classical integer-order tumor-immune models by accounting for hereditary immune responses and biologically motivated latency effects. Theoretical properties, including positivity, boundedness, equilibrium structure, and fractional-order stability, are examined to establish the biological and mathematical consistency of the model. High dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy using 192Ir is an effective modality for cancer treatment; however, its therapeutic efficiency is often constrained by unintended radiation exposure to healthy tissues surrounding the tumour. Fortunately, the incorporation of high atomic number (Z) nanoparticles as radiosensitizers has emerged as a promising strategy to enhance tumour dose while sparing adjacent normal tissues. The Role Of Zinc Precursor Concentration In Modulating The Structural, Optical, And Electrical Properties Of Sol-Gel Derived Czts Thin Films, Justine John Tibaijuka

This study reports on CZTS thin films fabricated by sol–gel spin coating using zinc acetate dihydrate, copper acetate dihydrate, tin chloride, and thiourea dissolved in methanol with monoethylamine as a stabilizer. The films were annealed rapidly at 540 °C by using an RTP furnace. Results show the significant influence of zinc concentration on films’ properties with band gap evolution between 1.46 and 1.7 eV, along with high absorption coefficients exceeding 10⁴ cm⁻¹ in the visible range. Structurally, the films evolved from poorly crystalline at low Zn content to well- crystallized, (112)-oriented kesterite near stoichiometry. However, excessive Zn caused slight degradation …

Assessment of groundwater hydrogeochemistry characteristics of aquifers plays a vital role in establishing water quality status and its suitability for human and industrial use. The main objective of this research was to carry out hydrogeochemical characterization of groundwater and assess its impacts on water quality and spatial variability of groundwater geochemistry in Dodoma, Tanzania. The methods used include groundwater sampling, laboratory analysis to determine physico- chemical parameters and data processing to classify the groundwater hydrochemical facies. Farmers often rely on intuition when selecting crops, which can lead to suboptimal profits. In this study, we examine the optimal annual crop allocation under varying land sizes for farmers in Pawaga, Iringa District, Tanzania. A parametric linear programming (LP) model is developed to determine crop allocation combinations that maximise profit subject to land, labour, and capital constraints. Unlike conventional approaches that require separate models for different farm sizes, the proposed model accommodates land holdings ranging from 1 to 9 acres and integrates nine crop types within a single framework. This manuscript presents a joint channel and phase-noise estimation framework for millimeter-wave (mmWave) OFDM systems based on an adaptive extended Kalman filter (EKF). The proposed method formulates a unified state-space model that simultaneously tracks time-varying multipath channels and oscillator phase noise, a critical impairment in 5G NR frequency range 2 (FR2) and emerging 6G transceivers. An innovation-based covariance adaptation mechanism is introduced to enhance estimation accuracy while maintaining computational efficiency. Plant leaf meals have the potential to replace fishmeal in fish feed formulation, hence reducing its cost and increasing fish production. This study evaluated the effects of plant leaf meals (PLMs) on haematological parameters in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). This study aims to examine the concept of e-litigation, its legitimacy, and its effect on judicial justice. To achieve this, the study first defines e-litigation, its origins, its legal basis in Sharīʿah (Islamic law), and the requirements for its implementation. It then highlights the main reasons necessitating recourse to e-litigation as well as its positive and negative implications for the realization of judicial justice. This essay explores the figure of the tragic mulatta in Lydia Maria Child’s The Quadroons and Dion Boucicault’s The Octoroon, analyzing how mixed-race female characters critique the racial and gender hierarchies of 19th-century America. Using an intersectional lens, it examines how race, gender, and class shape the identities and tragic fates of Xarifa and Zoe—women who were socially excluded from both Black and White communities.
