Injectable Hydrogels That Can Measure Radiation At Body Temperature, Daniel Joseph Ball Sep 2024

Injectable Hydrogels That Can Measure Radiation At Body Temperature, Daniel Joseph Ball

Theses and Dissertations

Hydrogel-based radiation dosimeters are used to calibrate and validate radiation delivered by linear accelerators used in radiotherapy. Specifically, Fricke hydrogel-based dosimeters containing ferrous ion complexes oxidize upon exposure to radiation, leading to a change in optical density that can be measured via a color change in a photometric reagent. While gelatin-based Fricke hydrogels are routinely used to measure radiation, these hydrogels are unstable at body temperature, and it is currently not possible to noninvasively measure radiation dose inside a patient. This study reports the synthesis and characterization of self-forming hydrogels containing Fricke components that are stable at body temperature. The …

In Re Estate Of Crossguns, 24-Ap-03 (Blkft. Tr. Ct. App., Sept 23, 2024), Blackfeet Appellate Court

Court Decisions

In the Blackfeet Tribal Court of Appeals, the Court affirmed a trial court order finding the appointment of decedent’s son as personal representative of decedent’s estate after appellant claimed Tribal Court erred when it proceeded with a hearing to determine the heirs of Decedent’s estate for lack of jurisdiction. Issues of Tribal Court jurisdiction and the validity of a decedent’s will are questions of law and will be reviewed de novo. The Blackfeet Tribal Law and Order Code, Ch. 3, Sec. 4 provides that the Blackfeet Tribal Cour has civil subject matter jurisdiction over probate proceedings.

Purpose: DEK::AFF2 fusion-associated squamous cell carcinoma (DEK::AFF2 SCC), also reported in the literature as low-grade papillary sinonasal (Schneiderian) carcinoma (LGPSC), is a rare, primarily bland-appearing, but locally aggressive neoplasm. Morphologically, these tumors can closely resemble sinonasal papilloma (SP), especially on small or limited biopsy, often leading to misdiagnosis. DEK::AFF2 SCC is devoid of the underlying mutually exclusive EGFR or KRAS driver mutations of SP, suggesting it may represent a distinct unique entity.

Methods: In this study, we conducted a retrospective search of "unusual" SP reported either as atypical, dysplastic, or suspicious for malignant transformation at our institution in the last …

Pibly Residential Programs, Inc. V. Rodriguez Sep 2024

Pibly Residential Programs, Inc. V. Rodriguez

All Decisions

The court dismissed the landlord's holdover petition because the notice of termination was defective. The notice failed to identify the former subtenant, who was the mother of the named respondent and the alleged licensor, rendering the notice vague and imprecise. The court found that this failure to identify "essential actors" and provide a clear, consistent basis for the proceeding made the notice unreasonable in light of the circumstances and prevented the tenant from preparing a proper defense. The proceeding was dismissed without prejudice, allowing the landlord to recommence the case with a new, proper predicate notice.

Understanding The Experiences Of Secondary Students Identified As In-School Truant And Their Perceived Contributing Factors To Truancy: When And What Caused The Disconnection, Joshua Donald Andres Sep 2024

Understanding The Experiences Of Secondary Students Identified As In-School Truant And Their Perceived Contributing Factors To Truancy: When And What Caused The Disconnection, Joshua Donald Andres

Dissertations, Theses, and Projects

A strong correlation exists between school attendance and positive school outcomes such as increased graduation rates, stronger sense of belonging, and a higher grade-point average (Churchill et al., 2021; Daily et al., 2020; Allensworth & Easton, 2007). Therefore, school administrators implement strategies that foster positive attendance behavior for students. Attendance data is quantitative in nature and, while quantitative data is needed for decisions related to policy and best practices, qualitative data may better identify root causes of truancy behavior. This study’s purpose was to identify perceived contributing factors that resulted in participants having high rates of in-school truancy, or going …

1719 Gates Llc V. Torres

All Decisions

The landlord initiated a holdover proceeding against the tenant seeking to recover the premises based on the expiration and non-renewal of the tenant's lease. The landlord argued that the tenant owed rent arrears and that this constituted a "good cause" for eviction under the Good Cause Eviction Law (GCEL). However, the court dismissed the petition, finding that GCEL does not allow a holdover based solely on a tenant owing rent arrears and that the landlord's legal remedy is to commence a nonpayment proceeding. The court emphasized that the legislature intended to impose additional conditions to evict tenants covered by GCEL …

Enhancing Dtc Control Of Im Using Fuzzy Logic And Three-Level Inverter: A Comparative Study, Siham Mencou, Majid Benyakhlef, Elbachir Tazi

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Direct torque control is the most appropriate strategy for induction motor drive systems, due to its considerable ability to reduce the impact of of machine parameter variations, while offering fast dynamic response and simplified control implementation. However, persistent problems associated with high torque ripple and variable switching frequencies prevent its widespread adoption. To overcome these limitations, several techniques have been developed, in particular the use of multi-level inverters and fuzzy logic algorithms. This article proposes an in-depth evaluation of these techniques in a MATALB/Simulink environment, under various operational conditions. The main objective is to provide a detailed performance analysis of …

The Impact Of Motivators And Hygienes On The Job Satisfaction And Classroom Efficacy Of Community College Facutly In Arkansas, Anthony Burkhammer Sep 2024

The Impact Of Motivators And Hygienes On The Job Satisfaction And Classroom Efficacy Of Community College Facutly In Arkansas, Anthony Burkhammer

Student Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to determine the motivators and hygienes that affect the job satisfaction and classroom efficacy of community college faculty in Arkansas. Using Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory, this research found motivating factors, such as the nature of the work, autonomy and independence, and professional relationships to be associated with overall job satisfaction of the participating faculty. Conversely, hygiene factors, namely salary, funding for travel for professional development, and communication with administration were associated with faculty job dissatisfaction. The findings indicate that overall faculty are satisfied with their jobs and do not see non-instructional responsibilities having a negative …

Toward Standardized Brain Tumor Tissue Processing Protocols In Neuro-Oncology: A Perspective For Gliomas And Beyond, Manmeet Ahluwalia, Michael Mcdermott Sep 2024

Toward Standardized Brain Tumor Tissue Processing Protocols In Neuro-Oncology: A Perspective For Gliomas And Beyond, Manmeet Ahluwalia, Michael Mcdermott

All Publications

Implementation of standardized protocols in neurooncology during the surgical resection of brain tumors is needed to advance the clinical treatment paradigms that use tissue for diagnosis, prognosis, bio-banking, and treatment. Currently recommendations on intraoperative tissue procurement only exist for diffuse gliomas but management of other brain tumor subtypes can also benefit from these protocols. Fresh tissue from surgical resection can now be used for intraoperative diagnostics and functional precision medicine assays. A multidisciplinary neuro-oncology perspective is critical to develop the best avenues for practical standardization. This perspective from the multidisciplinary Oncology Tissue Advisory Board (OTAB) discusses current advances, future directions, …
