Collaboration and communication between residency facilitators and residency coordinators is imperative to overall nurse residency program and individual resident success. Increased cohort sizes and the lasting impact of a global pandemic to academia continued to contribute to a noticeable trend in nurse residents’ failure to progress. Failure to progress is defined as an inability to move forward during unit level orientation. Background
Hair care products should be available to all patients regardless of hair type and texture. Recent movements like the Crown Project sparked pediatric hospitals across the country to focus efforts on ensuring hair care equity for their patients. Children’s health joined the movement by sanctioning a multidisciplinary, multidepartment task force to address BIPOC hair concerns. A smaller group was tasked with aligning practices and policies to address the gaps in education and resources available to assist nurses in caring for ethnic hair.

Detection And Perception Of Naturalness In Drum Sounds Processed With Dynamic Range Control, Jaxon Stricker, Wesley Bulla, Song Hui Chon, Doyuen Ko

This study examines whether trained listeners could identify and judge the “naturalness” of drum samples processed with Dynamic Range Compression (DRC) when paired with unprocessed samples. A two-part experiment was conducted utilizing a paired comparison of a 10-second reference drum loop with no processing and a set of drum loops with varying degrees of DRC. In Part 1, subjects were instructed to identify which sample of the two they believed to have DRC applied. They were then asked to identify which sample they believed sounded “more natural” in Part 2. Out of 18 comparisons for Part 1, only three demonstrated …

Background and aims

Repeated surface application of lime for managing subsoil acidity is slow and ineffective, resulting in an accumulation of undissolved lime (carbonate) in the topsoil. We investigated the impact of the incorporation of undissolved lime into the subsoil to improve acidity and crop performance.

Methods

The undissolved lime in 2-cm layers of topsoil (0–10 cm) from three long-term experiments in Western Australia was measured. Both limed and unlimed topsoil with the acidic subsoil of the same profile was incubated at eight incorporation rates for six weeks, followed by growing barley and wheat in the incubated soil for two …

Case Study In Deaf Mental Health Care: Integration Of Therapeutic Attunement And Skills-Training, Julia Ball, Lindsey Sankin

Deaf Mental Health Care (DMHC) is a specialty involving clinical expertise and self-awareness in therapeutic work with D/deaf people.1 Within the DMHC framework, this case report describes the psychotherapy of one Deaf individual, whose developmental experiences are common among D/deaf people. It illustrates how clinical models developed with hearing people informed the clinical team working with this Deaf individual. The treatment integrated focused skill-building with reparative emotional and linguistic “attunement.” In addition, the case illustrates how clinicians and their clients can use the intersections of their different languages and cultures as growth opportunities.

Background: Unplanned extubations (UE) in neonates can result in severe consequences such as airway obstruction, hypoxia, respiratory distress, and even death. It is crucial to prevent UEs to maintain stable breathing, minimize the need for reintubation, and improve outcomes for neonates in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The multidisciplinary NICU UE team has been working to prevent UEs since 2017. After an increase in 2022, the team conducted an evaluation to identify potential gaps and discovered over 50% of patients were not being reintubated post-event. Identified factors that contributed to UE events were: infants with weight < 4 kilograms; unadjusted high endotracheal tubes (ETT) per x-ray; inadequate sedation; lack of extubation readiness trial; and inadequate taping of the ETT. In 2022, our UE rate spiked to 0.50 UEs/100 vent days which prompted our multidisciplinary team to reinvigorate our work.

Emotional display rules refer to the expression of culturally prescribed and socially acceptable emotions across different people and situations (Wu & Schulz, 2020). The display rules among hearing adults across several cultures are well defined and depend on the type of emotion, the individuals involved in the exchange, and the situation. Regarding Deaf culture in the United States, this minoritized group may follow unique display rules (Hosie et al., 2000), but there has been almost no research conducted with this population and the existing studies have focused on youth. Each tenant argued the building had seven residential units—one apartment and six SROs—making it subject to rent stabilization. The lower court agreed with the tenants, granting summary judgment due to the landlord's failure to serve required statutory termination notices. The Appellate Term affirmed, ruling that the building’s rent stabilization status depends on the units’ function as residences, regardless of their legality under a certificate of occupancy.

Purpose: To develop a tool that will prevent complications related to transporting patients on ECLS thereby improving positive outcomes.

Background: In 2021, a patient on ECLS was transported from the unit to acquire imaging. The usual practice was to obtain an X-ray to confirm cannula placement after a transport. However, the X-ray was not obtained when the patient got back to the unit and unbeknownst to the team, the patient’s cannula had significantly moved despite visualization of intact sutures. Understanding the complete nature of Galactic sources that accelerate cosmic rays up to 1015 eV energy (Galactic PeVatrons) is still an unsolved problem in high-energy astrophysics. Although supernova remnants have long been considered as the best candidates for Galactic PeVatrons, a clear association of SNRs with PeVatrons needs further exploration. Recently, the LHAASO collaboration published its first catalog of 90 very high energy (VHE) gamma-ray sources, and a few of them have no obvious counterparts at other wavelengths. Here, we will present morphology and spectral analysis of one such unassociated source LHAASO J2108+5157 using VERITAS and HAWC data.

Galactic PeVatrons are astrophysical sources accelerating particles up to a few PeV (∼1015 eV) energies. The primary signature of 100 TeV γ rays may come from PeV protons or multihundred TeV (not PeV) electrons. The search for PeVatrons has been one of the key science topics for VERITAS and HAWC. In 2021, LHAASO detected 14 steady γ-ray sources with photon energies above 100 TeV, up to 1.4 PeV. This provides a clear list of PeVatron candidates for further study with VERITAS and HAWC. High energy γ-ray observations are an essential probe of cosmic-ray acceleration mechanisms. The detection of the highest energy γ rays and the shortest timescales of variability are the key to improve our understanding of the acceleration processes and the environment of the cosmic accelerators. The High-Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) experiment is a large field-of-view, multi-TeV, γ-ray observatory continuously operating at 4100 m a.s.l. since March 2015. The HAWC observatory has an order of magnitude better sensitivity, angular resolution, and background rejection than the previous generation of water-Cherenkov arrays. The High-Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) observatory is highly suitable for large-scale survey work. The high duty time (95%), large instantaneous FoV (2 sr), and sensitivity over the 300 GeV to more than 100 TeV energy range make it ideal for creating a catalog of very high energy (VHE) sources. Over the lifetime of the HAWC observatory, 4 catalogs have been produced 3 of which were constructed utilizing the full HAWC energy range while another used a restricted (>56 TeV) range. Located in the southern field of view of the High-Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) observatory, the eHWC J1825-134 region is one of the most complicated gamma-ray emission sites on the galactic plane. The region contains a few PeVatron candidates that can accelerate particles up to PeV energies. Disentangling the overlapping gamma-ray emission and associating it with accelerators is crucial to understand the mechanism of cosmic-ray acceleration and gamma-ray production near the accelerators. This study investigates the impact of the earthquakes that occurred in the first half of the 3rd millennium BCE on Western Anatolian settlements, aiming to determine the dates of the earthquakes that happened during the prehistoric period using the earthquake layers of the settlements and associated C14 data. The focus of the paper is the investigation of the effects of two earthquakes that occurred in the region during the first half of the 3rd millennium BCE on the settlements of the region. In the past several years, there has been a greater social call for police officers to be civilly and/or criminally liable for their actions. It is unclear if concern for liability exists today among police officers and if this concern influences how officers interaction with community members. The current study explored the civil and criminal liability views of police officers and if officers feel that this liability changed how they provide services. Data for this survey came from a recent survey of police officers in the U.S. Midwest. The results will be presented and discussed

The histogram remains a widely used tool for visualization of the distribution of a continuous variable, despite the disruption of binning the underlying continuity into somewhat arbitrarily sized discrete intervals imposed by the simplicity of its pre-computer origins. Alternatives include three visualizations, namely a smoothed density distribution such as a violin plot, a box plot, and the direct visualization of the individual data values as a one-dimensional scatter plot. To promote ease of use, the plotting function discussed in this work, Plot(x), automatically integrates these three visualizations of a continuous variable x into what is called a VBS plot here, …

Practice Problem:The use of audible alarms to monitor pediatric patients is crucial to patient care. Alarms notify nurses of potentially life-threatening situations. However, increasing non-actionable alarms can cause desensitization. This leads to ignoring and mismanaging alarms, ultimately putting patients at serious risk. For those caring for the sickest pediatric patients, strategies for reducing non-actionable alarms to mitigate alarm fatigue are needed to enhance patient safety.

The Neuronal alpha-Synuclein Disease (NSD) biological definition and Integrated Staging System (NSD-ISS) provide a research framework to identify individuals with Lewy body pathology and stage them based on underlying biology and increasing degree of functional impairment. Utilizing data from the PPMI, PASADENA, and SPARK studies, we developed and applied biologic and clinical data-informed definitions for the NSD-ISS across the disease continuum. Individuals enrolled as Parkinson's disease, Prodromal, or Healthy Controls were defined and staged based on biological, clinical, and functional anchors at baseline.
