Recreational fishing surveys have an important role in providing data to inform fisheries management. The selection of a contact method is an important and often challenging consideration that influences the potential for non-sampling errors that can result in unrepresentative data and biased estimates. Telephones are used for many off-site recreational fishing surveys, but widespread use of digital technology suggests that online surveys could be a viable alternative. We compared phone surveys with alternative online surveys using probability sampling from a licence database. Response rates were lower for online surveys (13%–26%) than phone surveys (97%–98%). The red fox (Vulpes vulpes) is a native of the northern hemisphere where it occurs throughout most of Europe, Asia, North America, and the northern coast of Africa. The red fox was first introduced to Australia (Victoria) from Britain as early as 1845 for hunting with foxhounds. Having become successfully established in Victoria by about 1870, it colonised most of mainland Australia over the next 70 years. Foxes are not found in the most northern regions of Australia, including northwest Kimberley.

Objectives: To report and describe the characteristics and outcomes of patients with advanced atrioventricular block (AVB) in Saudi Arabia. Methods: We included consecutive patients who underwent pacemaker implantation at King Khaled University Hospital, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for advanced AVB, which was defined as second degree type 2 AVB, third degree AVB, and symptomatic atrial fibrillation with slow ventricular response. The variable “young patient” was defined as age of 60 or less, based on guidelines recommending cardiac sarcoidosis (CS) evaluation at this age or younger. When earthquakes occur in high-mountain areas during the winter season, the epicentral region is often covered by a snow layer, which can be either thin or thick. The presence of snow and/or ice layers affects the detection of thermal anomalies associated with seismic signals. Taking into account the penetration capabilities of microwaves, microwave brightness temperature data were analyzed by using the index of microwave radiation anomaly to study the response of the epicentral region associated with two recent strong earthquakes in Central Asia, which occurred in snow-covered mountainous areas. This thesis examines how African and Afro Creole men utilized the availability of and demand for forced and voluntary militia service under French, Spanish, and American governance as a mode of resistance to discrimination and repression within the social structures of the region. This Note explores how election deepfakes fit into the broader frameworks of defamation and impersonation law and posits that Congress and the judiciary may remedy the threat by borrowing from both areas of law. It builds on existing scholarship that has addressed the issue of deepfakes in both the electoral context as well as the general context. Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act generally immunizes online platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Amazon, and Uber from liability for third-party user content (for example, posts, comments, and videos) and for moderation of that content. This Article addresses an important issue overlooked by both defenders and critics of Section 230: the implications of the law and proposed reforms for Black communities in particular. By relieving tech platforms of most legal liability for third-party content, Section 230 helps facilitate Black social activism, entrepreneurship, and artistic creativity. Since the pandemic, the impacts of structural bias on racial minorities and other groups have become an even more compelling concern for legal commentators. One group that has received some attention in the effort to confront bias is the mentally ill. This attention has coincided with a rise in the willingness of individuals to talk about, and destigmatize, mental health issues in society. On August 11, 2023, the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) notified schools just before the fall semester’s start that they would no longer support the college-board-approved AP African American Studies (APAAS) course. Subsequently, all five districts offering the course declared their intent to proceed despite the lack of state funding and course credits. We conduct a document and qualitative thematic analysis in this mixed methods study. In documents, we find distinctive shifts in how the significance of APAAS is portrayed within differing contexts. Using interviews with Arkansas superintendents, teachers, students, and stakeholders, we find four major interview themes: the role …

In space applications, on-ground experimentation is an essential step in control algorithm validation before real mission application. However, on-ground conditions greatly differ from space ones, where satellites operate under extremely low gravity and friction conditions. A common way to simulate these conditions is with air-bearing-based testbeds. These testbeds reduce friction significantly to almost space-like conditions. Air-bearing technology can provide virtually frictionless translational and rotational motion. However, when frictionless rotational motion is achieved, the testbed becomes highly sensible gravity torque. Black sorghum contains a high amount of anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins, whereas white sorghum predominantly comprises phenolic acids. Polyphenols covalently and non-covalently interact with protein, whereas the structure of both compounds affects these interactions. This study investigated the interactions between phenolic acids, anthocyanins, proanthocyanidins and prolamin, which is the major protein fraction in sorghum, and their effect on the pasting properties of white and black, whole and milled sorghum using different chemical agents. Urea increased the pasting viscosity of black sorghum, but not that of white sorghum, indicating that hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic interactions between prolamin and anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins play …

Introduction Zoledronate (Zol) is a nitrogenous bisphosphonate (nBP) used to treat osteoporosis, bone metastases, and Charcot foot. Despite its efficacy in preventing fractures, concerns exist about its side effects on mesenchyme-origin cells and impaired wound healing. We hypothesize that Zol may impair the responses of human fibroblasts (hF) and pre-osteoblasts (MC3T3), potentially compromising tissue healing in the lower extremities of patients with diabetes.

Methodology: MC3T3 cells and hF were cultured in 96-well plates at a density of 2.5 x 10³ cells for 48 and 72 hours, respectively. Cells were subjected to normal glucose, high glucose, and high oxidative stress conditions …

Molecular chaperones play a central role in protein disaggregation. However, the molecular determinants that regulate this process are poorly understood. Hsp104 is an AAA+ ATPase that disassembles stress granules and amyloids in yeast through collaboration with Hsp70 and Hsp40. In vitro studies show that Hsp104 processes different types of protein aggregates by partially translocating or threading polypeptides through the central pore of the hexamer. However, it is unclear how Hsp104 processing influences client protein function in vivo. The middle domain (MD) of Hsp104 regulates ATPase activity and interactions with Hsp70. A coming wave of general-purpose technologies, including artificial intelligence ("AI"), robotics, quantum computing, synthetic biology, energy expansion, and nanotechnology, is likely to fundamentally reshape the economy and erode the assumptions on which the antitrust order is predicated. First, AI-driven systems will vastly improve firms' ability to detect (and even program) consumer preferences without the benefit of price signals, which will undermine the traditional information-producing benefit of competitive markets. Similarly, these systems will be able to determine comparative producer efficiency without relying on competitive signals.
