Water scarcity is a critical issue worldwide. This study explores a novel method for addressing this issue by using ductile cast iron (DCI) solid waste as an adsorbent for phosphate ions, supporting the circular economy in water remediation. The solid waste was characterized using XRD, XRF, FTIR, and particle size distribution. Wastewater samples of different phosphate ion concentrations are prepared, and the solid waste is used as an adsorbent to adsorb phosphate ions using different adsorbent doses and process time. The removal percentage is attained through spectrophotometer analysis and experimental results are optimized to get the optimum conditions using Design …

Comparative Analysis Of Y Chromosome Data From Xinjiang And Ningxia Hui Populations With Hui Population Nationwide, Chang Xin, Yang Yini, Yu Yao, Xiong Jianxue, Mei-Sen Shi, Wen Shaoqing

The Hui population, one of China’s ethnic minorities, is dispersed throughout the country and has a history of assimilation with indigenous East Asians. Previous studies have primarily focused on Hui populations in specific regions, lacking comprehensive comparative analyses. In this study, we analyzed 338 unrelated male individuals from Hui populations in Altay, Xinjiang, and Haiyuan or Tongxin, Ningxia, using 108 Y-chromosomal single nucleotide polymorphisms (Y-SNPs) and 24 Y-chromosomal short tandem repeats (Y-STRs). We compared our findings with data from 749 published individuals from Hui populations in 11 provinces and 997 published Eurasian populations. Our analysis revealed that the national Hui …

Why do ongoing genocides persist despite global condemnation? This paper examines the challenge of ending ongoing genocides and argues that the persistence of genocides can be largely attributed to the interaction of structural factors and triggers with inadequate responses at the national, regional, and international levels. The analysis focuses on the genocidal experiences of the Yezidi and Rohingya communities, which were triggered by the 2014 attacks in Sinjar, Iraq, and the 2017 actions in Rakhine State, Myanmar. This paper explores meso-level approaches to atrocity prevention that incorporate a wider array of local expertise at all stages, from early warning to transitional justice. Specifically, we treat meso-level approaches as encompassing local leadership and advocacy across bottom-up processes, grassroots efforts, victim-led activism, and civil society mobilization. We draw from two contemporary cases of mass atrocities, Ukraine and Syria, which exemplify such efforts, using primary interview data with meso-level actors. Background Despite the biological mechanisms linking prenatal nitrate exposure to birth outcomes, epidemiological research has been inconclusive. The evidence-base has been limited by where and how nitrate exposure was measured, and the spurious correlation between geotemporal nitrate heterogeneity and unmeasurable factors contributing to gestational age and birth weight.

Objective We linked Iowa water quality data and birth records to estimate the independent association between early prenatal nitrate exposure and birth outcomes.

This descriptive correlational study explored the relationships between cultural competence, ethnocentrism, and perspective-taking in practicing medical-surgical nurses living in the United States (US). Participants (N=111) were recruited from the New Jersey Board of Nursing (NJBON) and from the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN). The survey consisted of three validated instruments a) the cultural competence assessment instrument (CCA-I); b) the generalized ethnocentrism scale (GENE); c) the perspective-taking (PT) subscale of the interpersonal reactivity index (IRI), and d) demographic profile questions. The predictive modeling of bridge conditions using stepwise selection and linear logistic regression approaches is the primary focus of the opening chapter. GM Ignition Switch. Dalkon Shield. Oxycontin. For decades, protective orders—court orders that require parties to maintain the confidentiality of information unearthed during discovery—have hid deadly defects and pervasive abuse from the public, perpetuating unnecessary harm.

But how worrisome are these protective orders, really? Under Rule 26(c)’s plain language, protective orders are to be granted only upon a showing of “good cause.” Doesn’t that adequately cabin the orders’ entry? Prominent judges and scholars have long insisted it does, and that, under Rule 26(c), the day-to-day grant of protective orders is careful, not cavalier. Critics disagree. Modern banks rely on numerous third-party service providers. They host data using cloud services, rely on clearinghouses to settle financial transactions, and automate their operations using financial technology and artificial intelligence. Alongside convenience, cost savings, and sophistication, reliance on these service providers brings risks. Dysfunction in third-party services can lead to data breaches, core service outages, or—potentially—systemic risk. And the odds of these risks coming to fruition only increase as the market for service provision becomes more concentrated.

Particularly during a contentious presidential election semester, instructors often need to lead discussions on difficult topics. In some disciplines, these discussions are more common, as themes on race, culture, gender, and/or sexual orientation can sometimes create challenge or discomfort. However, when current events raise the temperature everywhere, even classes not specifically meant to address such topics may see challenging conversations unfold. In this workshop, we will share specific resources and suggestions on leading these potentially difficult discussions in inclusive, engaging ways that serve our instructional goals. The word “abortion” pervades public discourse in the wake of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. But do people know what it means? Not only do law and medicine define it differently, but state legislatures have codified wildly different definitions of abortion across jurisdictions. This Article exposes inherent ambiguities at the boundaries of the term, particularly as it intersects with other categories of reproductive health care often viewed as separate, like pregnancy loss and ectopic pregnancy.
