Why Do Consumers Switch? The Role Of Relational Uncertainty In Service Failures, Jungyun Hur, Soocheong (Shawn) Jang
Why Do Consumers Switch? The Role Of Relational Uncertainty In Service Failures, Jungyun Hur, Soocheong (Shawn) Jang
Journal of Tourism Insights
This study explores the role of relational uncertainty in consumers’ switching intentions in a service failure encounter. The results reveal that in an established consumer-service provider relationship, relational uncertainty plays a significant role in the process of consumers’ switching intentions whereas dissatisfaction with service failures does not influence switching intentions. Further, the findings suggest that relational uncertainty mediates the effect of perceived loss on switching intentions. These findings were integrated into a discussion of theoretical and managerial implications for effective service management emphasizing the influential role of long-term relational value in comparison with incident-specific transaction value in an established relationship.

The Art Of Nursing, Janna L. Billetdeaux
The Art Of Nursing, Janna L. Billetdeaux
HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
I love the statement, "Nursing is an art and a science." I practiced at the bedside for 30 years, caring for my patients physically and mentally through all of life’s stages. Quilting became my go-to activity when the work became too stressful and I needed to decompress. When I became a nurse educator, I made this quilted wall hanging for my office to remind me of those years and the reasons I became a nurse. The nurse applique was made from one of my scrub tops and replicates my work uniform, down to the ponytail I wore when I was …
The Wave, Brittany Gavin
The Wave, Brittany Gavin
HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
Working as a nurse is stressful. Two things that help me decompress are the beach and fused glasswork. Both of those items are represented in this piece. I hand-cut glass to represent a wave and then fused it together in a kiln at high temperatures. Waves wash away my stress. Many people find calm in the ocean, and I am one of such people. The glass mirrors the water.

I have been drawing since I was old enough to hold a crayon. I love creating medical art and frequently make cartoons or illustrations of procedures, but I also use art as a way to show appreciation for fellow colleagues, surgeons, and other health care professionals by creating their likenesses on the cards from surgical gowns. My goal is to draw all of my colleagues at the 3 HCA Healthcare hospitals in western North Carolina where I work.
Micro Life, David Burton
Micro Life, David Burton

Painting is what I do to slow my brain and relax my body after a busy day at the hospital. Nothing puts me directly into a flow state like slowly moving acrylic paint across a canvas. This piece titled “Micro Life” depicts the diversity of life constantly surrounding us at the microbiological level everywhere we go. As a strong believer in nutrition and a healthy lifestyle, I know how important our microbiome is to healthy digestion and a properly functioning immune system. On the other side, I have witnessed the devastating effects dangerous microorganisms can have on our already compromised …

I am a post-anesthesia care unit nurse who works in a busy ambulatory surgery center, and I consider myself a closet photographer. I love taking photographs of nature. It helps me relax and focus after a busy day. This photograph was taken on my way home on a very cold and snowy day. I found the trees stunning with their white snowy branches contrasting the black asphalt road. Such a peaceful view of nature.

Caring Moments, Margaret J. Demars

Two years ago, I held my uncle’s hand in the final moments of his life in ICU. I often reflect on this time and wonder if he could hear us or feel our presence in the room. As an ICU nurse myself, I see this scene frequently with families comforting their loved ones in death. I am grateful to be in this unique position and share my care and compassion for those who may or may not have family present in these final moments. We may never know the impact of these simple acts of kindness, but I will do …

Inner Working Of The Human Body, Dammika Abeygunawardena
HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
This evocative artwork is inspired by the inner workings of the human body, specifically the complexities of blood flow and vascular systems. The deep reds and dynamic patterns represent the movement of blood through arteries and veins, while the interplay of lighter hues evokes the diffusion of oxygen and nutrients. This abstract interpretation aims to capture the vibrancy and essential functions of circulatory processes, celebrating the unseen yet vital life force that sustains us. The piece invites viewers to appreciate the intricate beauty and power of the human body’s most fundamental systems.

Minding The Details: The Importance Of Assessment Accuracy And Consistency In Managing Nursing-Sensitive Indicator Interventions, Elizabeth Card, Noah Zanville
HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
Evidence-based practice holds the potential to streamline health care, reduce costs, and improve patient outcomes. A good share of the data collected to create the evidence comes from electronic health records and other digital sources. Nurse-sensitive indicators, such as patient falls, pressure injuries, and hospital-acquired infections, are examples of data used to reflect the quality of nursing care. Other data may come from routine assessments nurses perform. It is crucial that nurses use valid and reliable instruments to create this data and that the use of the instruments is consistent across nurses in units, different shifts, and even different facilities. …
