Leveraging Institutional Repositories For Open Educational Resources In Academic Healthcare Settings, Clara Fowler Nov 2024

Leveraging Institutional Repositories For Open Educational Resources In Academic Healthcare Settings, Clara Fowler

Medical Institutional Repositories in Libraries (MIRL) Symposium

This lightning talk will explore the innovative use of institutional repositories to support Open Educational Resources (OER) initiatives in specialized academic health science centers. Drawing from an ongoing study at a cancer care institution, we will discuss how leveraging the institutional repository can accelerate OER development among faculty receiving National Cancer Institute (NCI) training grants. We will highlight the library's pivotal role as a facilitator in this process, emphasizing the potential of aligning federal funding with open science initiatives. Our approach combines the principles of open science with practical improvement science methodologies. Key features of our institutional repository strategy include …

Authorship Of Articles By U.S. Government Employees: Implications And Opportunities For Medical Institutional Repositories, Jimmy Ghaphery

Medical Institutional Repositories in Libraries (MIRL) Symposium

Articles authored or co-authored by U.S. Government employees are generally in the public domain. The emerging National Institutes of Health Draft Public Access Policy, part of the 2022 OSTP memo "Ensuring Free, Immediate, and Equitable Access to Federally Funded Research," aligns with this spirit of copyright legislation regarding such articles. This presentation will share results from a recent study on the copyright labeling practices and open access status of articles authored or co-authored by employees of the National Cancer Institute. The study found that it is not uncommon for these articles to omit any assertion of public domain status, and …

How Fair Compliance Can Help Every Repository, Michael Upshall

Medical Institutional Repositories in Libraries (MIRL) Symposium

The OSTP/Nelson Memo gave a clear indication that deposit of federally funded research will be required in federal repositories. How can the institutional repository manager check that this is happening? The CORE Fresh Finds tool, for release 2024, aims to solve this problem. It provides a regular report on articles published by members of your institution that have been published, and checks if they are held in your local repository, or can check if they have been deposited in one of the 20 or so federal repositories. This talk will provide early feedback from the tool from users. The tool …

Differences In Physiological Responses Between Two Repeated Sprint Protocols In Female Soccer Players, Emma Hörnlund, Spyridon Hadjispyrou, Apostolos Theos

International Journal of Exercise Science

International Journal of Exercise Science 17(6): 1605-1617, 2024. Soccer is a team sport characterized by repeated high-intensity sprints followed by brief periods of recovery. Repeated sprints with (RCOD) and without (RSA) change-of-direction has therefore been recognized as an important fitness component. The purpose of the present study was to examine the differences in physiological responses between RSA and RCOD, and the relationship with Yo-Yo intermittent recovery test (YYIR1), as an estimate of aerobic capacity, in female soccer players. Thirteen female soccer players (age: 20.8 ± 2.6 years) participated. All players performed an RSA and RCOD test, as well as a …

Aloe Vera Constrains Growth Of Bladder Cancer And Modulates Expression Of Key Costimulatory Molecules, Arturo Gutiu, Austin Marrah, Trent Mayberry, Braydon Cowan, Brady Voss, Mark R. Wakefield, Yjiang Fang

DMU Research Symposium

Background: Bladder cancer is the second most common urological cancer in the world. The current treatment strategies involve surgery and chemotherapy; however, its 5-year survival rate is below 40% in more advanced cases. Cancer immunotherapy has become a popular approach to treating cancer and PDL1, PDL2, ICAM2 and 4-1BBL are key costimulatory molecules. Previous research has shown plant phytochemicals can act as immunomodulators by regulating co-stimulatory functions to increase T cell activation, inhibiting malignant proliferation. However, the role of aloe vera in the growth of bladder cancer and expression of key costimulatory molecules has not been studied yet.

Methods: Clonogenic …

Responding To The Global Crisis: Jacques Maritain, World War Ii, And New York's École Libre, Jacob Saliba

Journal of Global Catholicism

This article offers an interdisciplinary study of the French Catholic philosopher Jacques Maritain during World War II in order to provide an historical resource for understanding the global dimensions and possibilities at work in modern Catholicism. In 1941, while living in New York City, Maritain helped to cofound and lead the École Libre des Hautes Études (the “Free French University”). An initiative primarily created by American and French intellectuals, the university became an important hub for rescuing and employing nearly two hundred individuals from across the world. Elected president in late-1942, Maritain worked closely with the New School for Social …

The Ministries Of New Communities In The Ivory Coast Scrutinised Under The Lens Of The Theological And Magisterial Vision Of The Church, Joseph Loïc Mben Sj

Journal of Global Catholicism

The goal of this article is to show that the ministries of new communities are in conformity with the theological and magisterial vision of the Church and that, in many cases, they contribute to its enrichment. Following some lexical clarifications, it makes particular use of the schema of the threefold offices of Christ in which the members of new communities partake as the baptized, to show how the ministries realize each of the dimensions of Christ’s office.

The Meanings Of The Hospital De San Lázaro In Seventeenth-Century Manila, Francis Galasi Nov 2024

The Meanings Of The Hospital De San Lázaro In Seventeenth-Century Manila, Francis Galasi

Journal of Global Catholicism

The Hospital de San Lázaro was a specialized health facility in the early modern Philippines, dedicated to the care of lepers and sufferers of other contagious diseases. While it was established for this specific purpose, its role in colonial society varied. This versatility reflected the distinct priorities and commitments of the groups pulled into its orbit, as each charged San Lázaro with a unique meaning. This article explores how and why these groups—the indigenous Filipinos, the Spanish residents and the Discalced Franciscans—understood San Lázaro in their own way. It highlights the ability of fixed institutions, such as a hospital, to …
