Before Ministry, Education Is Important (Bmei): A Comprehensive Enquiry About The Impact Of Education On Ministry, Mcclintock Acsmhour
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Ministry has a variety of fields ranging from churches, social nonprofit organizations, and government ministries in agriculture, health, education, lands, and many more. While this study did not focus on other ministries apart from Christian non profit ministries like church, to some extent, all leaders in these ministries avow that one requires some level of education to be in leading positions in these ministries. In other words, the qualified individual must have been trained in a particular field within the ministry of interest. This indicates the importance of education in ministry. Therefore, this study was conducted to uncover the impact …

Controlling Anti-Asian Conduct On College Campuses: Can Including Ethnic Studies Programs Help?, Hani Morgan
Faculty Publications
The COVID-19 pandemic has triggered hostile acts against Asian college students. One of the ways to respond to these acts is to increase Asian American ethnic studies programs and courses. Although critics argue that ethnic studies cause divisiveness, research indicates that they are beneficial to students from all groups. University administrators may fear implementing these programs because they sometimes associate them with the violence that occurred during the late 1960s when students demanded ethnic studies to be included in the college curriculum. But this to a great extent by the poor representation of racial minority groups in the curriculum and …
An Adaptive And Parallel Direct Solver For Elliptic Partial Differential Equations, Damyn Chipman
An Adaptive And Parallel Direct Solver For Elliptic Partial Differential Equations, Damyn Chipman
Boise State University Theses and Dissertations
We introduce the quadtree-adaptive Hierarchical Poincaré-Steklov (QAHPS) method, an adaptive direct method for solving elliptic partial differential equations on a hierarchy of adaptively refined finite volume meshes. The QAHPS method builds up a solution operator set with O(N^3/2) complexity that acts as the factorization of the system matrix, with linear O(N) complexity for the application of the solution operator set to any number of right-hand side vectors. As the solution operator set is built up by merging local subdomains, it can be adapted as the mesh is refined and coarsened. The method is an …
Adapting Deep Learning Models For Downstream Web Tasks: Multimodal Models, Task Development, Agent Adaptation, Graham Annett
Adapting Deep Learning Models For Downstream Web Tasks: Multimodal Models, Task Development, Agent Adaptation, Graham Annett
Boise State University Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation presents a framework for the development of deep learning models tailored for dynamic web tasks, leveraging generalized pre-trained multimodal transformers. A task generation framework, applied to multiple web datasets, is introduced, facilitating instruction fine-tuning of models for executing multi-step web workflows. This approach enhances the adaptability of pre-trained models to a spectrum of novel web tasks, which is vital for the reliable operation of web agents.
Moreover, this work proposes an encoding schema extending the Decision Transformer, which advances the adaptability of these models for downstream tasks through targeted modality tokenization, thereby broadening their practical applicability. These enhancements …

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), which serves as the multibillion-dollar college athletics industry’s primary governing body, has faced several recent legal challenges to its operations. One particularly prominent challenge projects to result in litigation that will significantly impact college athletics’s future. This article explores the circumstances that led to this precarious position: (1) the NCAA’s recent changes to its longstanding rules prohibiting student-athlete compensation for use of their names, images, and likenesses; (2) several state legislatures’ attempts to provide universities in their states with a competitive advantage by legislating restrictions on the NCAA’s ability to enforce its rules; and …
The Constitutional Meaning Of Financial Terms, Tomer Stein, Shelby Ponton
The Constitutional Meaning Of Financial Terms, Tomer Stein, Shelby Ponton
Utah Law Review
The Constitution has sixty-three financial terms. These financial terms include, for instance, “compensation,” “expenditures,” “debt,” “coin,” “revenue,” “securities,” and “bankruptcies”—all of which determine the elementary building blocks of our governmental makeup. When the Supreme Court interprets the meaning of these financial terms, it does so in isolation and without a consistent framework. This Article proposes a unified framework for the interpretation of financial terms in the Constitution which comprises two fundamental canons of construction.
First, this Article proposes that all financial terms in the Constitution should be interpreted with fiscal and monetary neutrality—interpreting financial terms in a way that does …
The Seven Essential Law School Simulation Courses, Mitch Zamoff
The Seven Essential Law School Simulation Courses, Mitch Zamoff
Utah Law Review
As we mark the ten-year anniversary of the American Bar Association’s six-credit experiential learning requirement and the launch of the NextGen bar exam, it is critical for U.S. law schools to conduct rigorous assessments of their experiential education curricula. While most law schools now offer students meaningful opportunities to develop lawyering skills in clinics and field placements, there is much less consistency in their simulation course offerings. Simulation courses are a critical component of experiential legal education. While students in clinics and field placements gain valuable, realistic experience addressing the issues presented by their actual clients, those issues may sometimes …

Echoing Into The Void: Rucho’S State-Level Progeny, Avery E. Emery

When politicians are given free rein to draw districts, they choose their voters rather than allowing the voters to choose their representatives. They rely on “highprofile paid consultants, armies of lawyers, terabytes worth of voting data, advanced software, and even a supercomputer or two”386 to guarantee large margins for their party. This decennial process has reduced electoral competition, made the House of Representatives less responsive,388 and spread a sentiment of disenfranchisement throughout the electorate.
Now is the time for the judiciary—staffed by judges whose role in our constitutional system is to check the political branches—to take decisive action to protect …
Distribution Through Taxation Versus Legal Rules, And The Epistemic Limits Of Law-And-Economics, Erick J. Sam
Distribution Through Taxation Versus Legal Rules, And The Epistemic Limits Of Law-And-Economics, Erick J. Sam
Utah Law Review
This Article develops an epistemic critique of the view, widely held in law-and-economics, that legal rules should always be chosen for efficiency and that redistribution to produce a fair distribution should be conducted solely through the tax-and-transfer system. In place of this orthodox view, I develop an alternative distributive theory.
The canonical ‘double distortion’ argument for the orthodox position, formulated by Kaplow and Shavell (1994), claims that opting for efficient legal rules minimizes economic distortions and maximizes aggregate social wealth, some of which can then be redistributed via the tax-and-transfer system to those who would have been better off under …

Issues Arising Out Of Mass Arbitrations & Solutions To Combat Them, Diana Pogosyan
Utah Law Review
Arbitrations have been around for thousands of years. The benefits derived from arbitrations are numerous, as they provide individuals with a more efficient and cost-effective way of disputing their claims. Importantly, arbitrations provide consumers with a network to dispute claims they may not otherwise litigate in civil court. However, within the last few years, the rapid spread of mass arbitrations throughout the nation has contributed to various ethical issues within our justice system.143 Combatting the issues presented with mass arbitration is crucial to maintaining and creating a more efficient adjudication process. To address the issues associated with mass arbitrations, companies …

Background: Dentists and oral surgeons are leading prescribers of opioids to adolescents and young adults (AYA), who are at high risk for developing problematic opioid use after an initial exposure. Most opioids are prescribed after tooth extraction, but non-opioid analgesics provide similar analgesia and are recommended by multiple professional organizations. Methods: This multi-site stepped wedge cluster-randomized trial will assess whether a multicomponent behavioral intervention can influence opioid prescribing behavior among dentists and oral surgeons compared to usual practice. Across up to 12 clinical practices (clusters), up to 33 dentists/oral surgeons (provider participants) who perform tooth extractions for individuals 12–25 years …

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with cellular abnormalities, tissue and organ dysfunctions, and periodontitis. This investigation examined the relationship between the oral microbiome and salivary biomarkers in T2DM patients with or without periodontitis. This cohort (35–80 years) included systemically healthy non-periodontitis (NP; n = 31), T2DM without periodontitis (DWoP; n = 32) and T2DM with periodontitis (DWP; n = 29). The oral microbiome [Operational Taxonomic Units (OTUs)] (16 s rRNA sequencing) and targeted host salivary biomarkers (immunoassays) were assessed. We identified 47 OTUs that were significantly different in abundance between NP samples and any disease subset or between …

Using Gamification As Scaffolding To Support Children As They Formulate Initial Keyword-Based Search Queries, Benjamin John Bettencourt
Using Gamification As Scaffolding To Support Children As They Formulate Initial Keyword-Based Search Queries, Benjamin John Bettencourt
Boise State University Theses and Dissertations
Child searchers, ages six to twelve, are known to struggle when it comes to using mainstream search engines. One such struggle that has been identified is the query formulation process, including initial query formulation. Two avenues of assistance that have shown promise in assisting users in other endeavors are gamification and scaffolding. In an attempt to provide assistance tailored to child searchers in their initial query formulation processes, this research explores the use of a gamified scaffold built with the purpose of teaching more effective, keyword-based, query formulation practices. To study the efficacy of utilizing a gamified scaffold to support …

(R2104) On The Qualitative Results Of Riemann-Liouville Fractional Order Nonlinear Neutral Singular Systems With Mixed Delays, Abdullah Yiğit, Cemil Tunç
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
In this manuscript, we discuss new conditions for asymptotic stability of nonlinear Riemann- Liouville fractional mixed-delay neutral singular systems. By constructing a set of improved Lyapunov-Krasovski˘ı functionals (LKFs), we establish some new delay-dependent conditions in terms of matrix inequality, which guarantees that the systems are asymptotically stable. In the particular case, we give four numerical examples with their solutions and graphs via MATLAB software demonstrating the practical applicability of these proven conditions. With this study, some conditions existing in the literature are developed and generalized.

(R2113) A Numerical Method For Solving Linear First-Order Volterra Integro-Differential Equations With Integral Boundary Condition, Zelal Temel, Musa Cakir
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
We investigate an efficient numerical method for the linear first-order Volterra integro-differential equations with integral boundary condition. To solve this problem, boundaries are determined for its derivative and the solution. The numerical solutions of the problem are modeled over a uniform mesh using the composite right-side rectangle concept for the integral component and the implicit difference rules for the differential component. Next, the stability and convergence of the numerical approach are discussed. The numerical experiments are presented confirming the accuracy of the proposed scheme.

Understanding The Interactions Between Pollen-Borne Ilarviruses And Pollinators In Peach Orchards, Mandeep Tayal
All Dissertations
Pollen-mediated virus transmission is a common problem in fruit crops. Prunus necrotic ringspot virus (PNRSV) and prune dwarf virus (PDV) are pollen-borne ilarviruses endemic to the southeastern U.S. and cause substantial losses in peach production. PNRSV and PDV are primarily transmitted through vegetative propagation (grafting) as well as via pollen and seed. However, the role of pollinators in transmission dynamics of these viruses is not well understood. First, I documented the bee diversity and abundance during peach bloom in South Carolina, identifying Bombus and Apis as the most dominant genera, followed by Eucera, Andrena and Habropoda. Bee community composition …

Alfred Russel Wallace Notes 33. The Story In Evolution., Charles H. Smith
Faculty/Staff Personal Papers
Alfred Russel Wallace (1823-1913) is best known for his independent formulation of the principle of natural selection. In this work I first review my understanding of Wallace’s intellectual development on this subject, including the notion that he had no model for the evolution of higher consciousness as of his first treatment of natural selection in 1858. This leads to some conclusions about his approach to the subject, and links to parallel ideas inherent in the philosophy of Baruch de Spinoza (1632-1677).

The increased politicization of sexual and reproductive health has created barriers to medically necessary care. In absence of formal health care, social ties become critical sources of information and resources, yet the disclosure of stigmatized health needs carries significant risk. How do people navigate the risks and benefits of disclosure when seeking care for stigmatized needs? Drawing on original survey data (N = 153) and in-depth interviews (N = 55) with women who attempted a self-managed abortion, I first describe the distinct roles of weak and strong ties in women’s health-seeking experiences. I then demonstrate how both partial disclosure and …
