C-Reactive Protein As An Early Predictor Of Anastomosis Leakage After Colorectal Surgery: A Literature Review, Lucky Permana, Ridho A. Syaiful
The New Ropanasuri Journal of Surgery
Introduction. Anastomosis leakage is a defect in the intestinal wall at the anastomosis site after surgery. This condition is a serious complication causing increased morbidity and mortality. CRP is commonly used as an acute postoperative indicator after abdominal surgery. The use of CRP as an early predictor of anastomosis leakage after colorectal surgery is supported by several studies showing its good diagnostic value. However, using CRP as a biomarker is not standard at Cipto Mangunkusumo National Hospital. Therefore, this literature review aims to support the evidence for CRP in the early detection of anastomosis leakage after colorectal surgery.

Single Unit-Derived Connectivity Networks In Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Reveal Propensity For Network Hypersynchrony Driven By Tuber-Tuber Interactions., Aswin Chari, Amanda E Hernan, J Matthew Mahoney, Rachel Thornton, M Zubair Tahir, Martin M Tisdall, Rod C Scott
Faculty Research 2024
Network hypersynchrony is emerging as an important system-level mechanism underlying seizures, as well as cognitive and behavioural impairments, in children with structural brain abnormalities. We investigated patterns of single neuron action potential behaviour in 206 neurons recorded from tubers, transmantle tails of tubers and normal looking cortex in 3 children with tuberous sclerosis. The patterns of neuronal firing on a neuron-by-neuron (autocorrelation) basis did not reveal any differences as a function of anatomy. However, at the level of functional networks (cross-correlation), there is a much larger propensity towards hypersynchrony of tuber-tuber neurons than in neurons from any other anatomical site. …

While the potential of collaborative problem solving in mathematics is well known, facilitating effective group work is often challenging. One reason for this persistent difficulty educators face with collaborative problem solving can be traced to research and practice models that are not well-equipped to attend to the complexity of group work. The emerging construct of “collective engagement structures” represents one novel framework designed to attend to the complexity and variation of individual and group experience in collaborative problem solving. This study extends initial theorizing on collective engagement by offering descriptive accounts of the different types of collective engagement structures that …

Recent approaches to fisheries research emphasize the importance of the coproduction of knowledge in building resilient and culturally mindful fisheries management frameworks. Despite widespread recognition of the need for Indigenous knowledge and historical reference points as baseline data, archaeological data are rarely included in conservation biology research designs. Here we propose a novel multiproxy method to learn from former fisheries stewards by generating archaeological data on past salmonid population parameters. We used a newly developed, high throughput qPCR (HT-qPCR) chip, originally designed for environmental DNA (eDNA), for species identification of archaeological salmonid vertebrae. We combine this with the laser ablation …

An Analysis Of Charity Care Policy In Virginia And Recommendations For The Future, Victoria Richardson
An Analysis Of Charity Care Policy In Virginia And Recommendations For The Future, Victoria Richardson
Richmond Public Interest Law Review
Virginia’s uninsured rate has dropped significantly since Medicaid expansion, but statewide gaps in coverage remain, especially among communities of color and for those transitioning from Medicaid to Medicare at age sixty-five. Accordingly, greater utilization of charity care is necessary to prevent the most vulnerable Virginians from experiencing crippling medical debt—debt they may by unable to pay due to limited resources.
Unfortunately, charity care requirements for providers suffer from a lack of clarity and accountability at both the state and federal level. This article surveys the current laws and regulations that govern charity care in Virginia and highlights problems that prevent …

Book Review: Pluricentric Languages And Language Education: Pedagogical Implications And Innovative Approaches To Language Teaching, Rachel Stauffer
Russian Language Journal
Pluricentric Languages and Language Education is an edited volume concerning language teaching in “major pluricentric languages that have a colonial and post-colonial history and are taught as second/foreign languages in second and higher education in Europe (and beyond)” (p. 2). The term pluricentric describes a language in variation outside of codified forms determined by a centralized language authority. Pluricentric Languages and Language Education invites Russian instructors to consider if the language in our textbooks and spoken in our classrooms is unflinchingly representative of Contemporary Standard Russian. If the answer is no, which forms of Russian do we teach and in …
