Mansoura Engineering Journal
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a severe neurological disorder that leads to memory loss and other cognitive impairments, ultimately resulting in death. With the advancement of deep learning, several researchers implemented a deep learning (DL)-based classification system for diagnosing such disease. However, determining the proper setting of the parameters, like learning rate and the number of dense units in the classification model is essential to achieve the best performance. Although manual tuning and grid search methods may be used, they are often time-consuming and cannot achieve the optimal model’s design. Accordingly, this paper proposed an improved model of the Visual Geometry …

Adaptive Watermarking Scheme For Enhanced Image Authentication And Restoration, Merna E. Ibrahim, Mohamed G. Abdelfattah, Mohamed A. Mohamed
Mansoura Engineering Journal
Traditional fragile watermarking schemes often struggle to balance tamper detection accuracy, image quality, and processing speed. This paper presents a novel adaptive fragile watermarking scheme that leverages Canny-edge detection to dynamically adjust watermark embedding based on image features. The proposed approach classifies image regions into smooth and dense areas. Larger 4×4 blocks are employed in smooth regions, prioritizing visual quality and processing speed, while smaller 2×2 blocks are used in edge and dense regions to enhance tamper detection accuracy. This adaptive strategy effectively balances competing factors, resulting in superior recovered image quality compared to fixed-block schemes. Experimental results demonstrate the …

Colorado Gravimetric Geoid Model Using A Combination Of Window Technique And Modified Stokes’ Kernel, Hussein A. Abd-Elmotaal, Atef Makhloof, Ayman Hassan, Mostafa Ashry, Hussein Mohasseb, Mostafa Abd-Elbaky
Mansoura Engineering Journal
In the framework of the IAG 1-cm geoid experiment in Colorado, a detailed gravimetric geoid for Colorado has been computed within this investigation. The geoid has been computed through the window remove-compute-restore technique (Abd-Elmotaal and Kühtreiber, 1999, 2003). The window technique has been chosen because of its unambiguous behaviour of treating the local and global topographic-isostatic masses. The window technique needs the harmonic analysis of the topographic-isostatic masses for the data window to a high-degree. The necessary derivations of the appropriate expressions for the needed dimensionless potential harmonic coefficients of the topographic-isostatic masses within the data window for high-degrees are …

The Future Of Interviewer-Administered Surveys, Kristen Olson
Department of Sociology: Faculty Publications
One of the most substantial shifts over the last decade has been in the use of in-person and telephone interviewers as a survey mode of administration. Historically in-person surveys switched to being conducted by telephone or mixed with self-administered modes of web and paper questionnaires (de Leeuw 2005; Olson et al. 2012; 2021). As one example, Figure 1 shows the proportion of telephone interviews conducted in three government surveys in the United States—the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), the Current Population Survey (CPS), and the American Community Survey (ACS). The NHIS and CPS traditionally use primarily in-person interviews. Before 2020, …

The Expressive Effects Of Bilateral Labor Agreements, Ian G. Peacock
Chicago Journal of International Law
Bilateral labor agreements (BLAs) aim to facilitate the movement of temporary migrant workers between countries. So far, studies of BLAs have focused on whether they have effects on migration flows. Despite countries entering hundreds of BLAs, evidence for their effects on migration flows remains limited. Yet, even if BLAs have limited material effects, they may still have important symbolic effects. On this topic, this Comment highlights BLAs’ potential to change rhetoric about international migration among heads of state. Drawing on an original empirical analysis focused on BLAs with the Philippines, the Comment analyzes how BLAs may influence leaders’ expressed attitudes …

Still Making It Up As He Goes: Revisiting The Hyper-Rhetorical Presidency In Trump’S Second Term, Richard Holtzman
Still Making It Up As He Goes: Revisiting The Hyper-Rhetorical Presidency In Trump’S Second Term, Richard Holtzman
Politics, Law, and Society Faculty Journal Articles
In Fast Capitalism’s 2020 issue, “This is Not Normal,” I explored Trump’s propensity for improvised rhetoric during his first term; that is, his reliance on “making it up as he goes” in his public statements, whether communicated verbally or through social media. The primary goal of my original essay was not simply to identify the president’s ad-hoc communication style—which is clear for all to see—but to argue that the president’s tendency toward improvisational speech matters because it represents more than just his approach to communication. This tendency toward improvisation also constitutes much of his approach to governing.
In “Making It …
Cultural Coordinates Of Credibility And Sticky Scripts: Womaning Versus Lawyering In The Indian Legal System, Bhumika Billa
Cultural Coordinates Of Credibility And Sticky Scripts: Womaning Versus Lawyering In The Indian Legal System, Bhumika Billa
Socio-Legal Review
Based on a multimodal and empirical analysis, the article presents Indian women (identifying) lawyers’ lived experiences of epistemic injustice at the sites of legal work in Delhi. The analysis brings a painting, a short film, and 15 semi-structured interviews in conversation with each other to understand women lawyers’ shared experiences of being perceived as “less credible,” and the strategies they have been adopting to assert credibility. The theoretical contribution can be captured by three key arguments.
