We consider a queueing system that utilizes a single server to manage product flow through bulk and overload service modes, depending on queue length. Balking occurs when the queue length reaches ‘N’. After completion of service, products undergo quality inspection, with defective products sent for rework based on specific probabilities. If the product is non-defective, the server continues processing until the queue length exceeds a certain threshold; beyond this point, the server is either routed back to bulk service or directed to an overload service. Clientelism remains common in Southeast Asian politics even though electoral democracy has expanded. This study examines how different forms of clientelism influence democratic quality, focusing on the rule of law and public goods provision in Indonesia and Malaysia. Building on the theories of clientelism, understood as the exchange of material benefits for political support. Such practices can weaken the fair enforcement of laws and shift public spending toward targeted groups instead of universal welfare programs. Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbots are increasingly being explored as sources of informal emotional support, with emerging evidence suggesting that venting to these systems can reduce negative affect. Yet, it remains unclear whether such benefits depend on the responder's perceived identity. Given that emotional relief from venting often hinges on perceived authenticity and emotional validation, this study investigates whether the emotional well-being benefits of venting differ when users believe they are interacting with an AI chatbot versus a human, even when responses are content-matched. Translational equity means ensuring that diagnostics, treatments, care models, and prevention strategies are developed and implemented so they work for populations with the greatest burden and least access to care. In Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD), where most evidence derives from highly educated, non-Hispanic White participants at large academic centers, translational equity is critical to prevent misclassification, limited access, and widening disparities and to ensure that underrepresented communities shape how new knowledge moves into practice. Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) is highly lethal. Although patients with the BRAFV600E alteration respond to the type I RAF inhibitor (RAFi) dabrafenib with trametinib, most rapidly develop adaptive or acquired resistance. Here, multi-region whole-genome, high-coverage whole-exome, and single-nuclei RNA sequencing of tumors from ATC patients undergoing type I RAFi and MEKi therapy reveals that reactivation of the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway, along with immunosuppressive macrophage proliferation, may underlie the development of acquired resistance. Screening of several RAFi reveals that ATC cell lines are exquisitely sensitive to the type II RAFi naporafenib, which inhibits EphA2-mediated MAPK signaling. Further, naporafenib and …

This article rethinks Pakistan Studies as both a pedagogical project and a field of knowledge by examining the limits of history as a tool of legitimation. It argues that in the public sphere, history often serves to authorize the present, and shows how Pakistan Studies has historically operated within this framework. At the same time, the article suggests that this condition opens up another possibility: to understand history not as passive inheritance but as an active demand upon the present. It is remarkable that the current research primarily aims to measure the extent to which UAE Consumers use various Digital Advertising Channels, as well as to evaluate e-marketing requirements and the degree of compliance in the United Arab Emirates. Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) is among the most frequent autoinflammatory diseases in populations originating from the area of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean countries. It is caused by mutations in the MEFV gene, which causes dysregulated pyrin expression and thus an immunologic anomaly. FMF is diagnosed by recurrent episodes of fever and serosal inflammation, predominantly peritonitis and pleuritis, as well as other systemic symptoms. Recent research is dedicated to searching for factors beyond genetic code contributing to how FMF evolves, the severity of its symptoms and response to conventional therapy—colchicine. Understanding the best ways to incentivise recycling and improve the efficiency of waste practices is a key environmental, social, and economic management problem that needs addressing.We search for solutions to this issue by testing the effectiveness of two incentive mechanisms (a piece-rate and a lottery-based systems). We run a similar field experiment in three different locations, namely a student, residential and workplace environment, to verify the robustness of our findings and thus increase confidence in the external validity of our intervention. Framed within the Theory of Planned Behavior and aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 13 (Climate Action), this research examines how responsible digital engagement is associated with both individual mental health and broader digital sustainability. Trust Asymmetry And Cross-Border Merger Withdrawals: A Global Perspective, Muhammad Farooq Ahmad, Saqib Aziz, Rwan El-Khatib, Duc Khuong Nguyen

We empirically examine how trust asymmetry between countries can impact the cross-border merger outcome. Differing trust perceptions between acquirer and target countries can increase the complexities of deal negotiations and integration, constraining the successful deal completion and outcome. We find, in a comprehensive global sample of 56 countries spanning 37 years, that higher trust asymmetries between the acquirer and target countries significantly increases the cross-border merger withdrawal intensity and reduces the expected synergy gains. Moreover, the adverse effects of trust asymmetry are significantly attenuated by the quality of institutions in both countries. Our results hold after employing various empirical techniques …

This study applies machine learning models such as TabNet, XGBoost, CatBoost, Support Vector Machines, a Multilayer Perceptron, and Logistic Regression to predict takeover-rumor accuracy using a proprietary dataset of 2074 rumor articles with identifiable target firms, screened from over 30,000 news articles from January 2002 to December 2011. In the raw feature (no-PCA) specification, Logistic Regression and TabNet perform similarly. After addressing class imbalance and applying dimensionality reduction (PCA), TabNet materially outperforms Logistic Regression and delivers economically meaningful gains: A TabNet-based long-short strategy earns higher average monthly abnormal returns than a Logistic Regression strategy at both horizons, 1.148% versus 0.773% …

USU Extension’s Youth Programs department addresses gaps in youth mental health and workforce readiness. In 2025, the department implemented a comprehensive, research-based approach grounded in Positive Youth Development and the 4-H Beyond Ready framework. Programs were delivered through afterschool activities, camps, leadership initiatives, STEM education, and career exploration experiences. Outcomes demonstrate strong gains across developmental domains. A majority of youth reported growth in competence, confidence, leadership, and problem-solving skills, along with improved emotional wellbeing and reduced stress. Participants also showed increased readiness for work and life, including responsible decision-making, community engagement, and career awareness. The growing number of corporate net-zero pledges and promises to reduce emissions, spurred by pressure from consumers, shareholders, and employees, is leading to the emergence of voluntary carbon markets—carbon markets independent of government mandated emission reductions or regulatory structure. Because agricultural soil can provide a carbon sink, depending on management practices and soil type, many agricultural producers and landowners are poised to generate carbon credits and supplement farm income by selling those credits to corporations seeking to offset emissions. Bioengineered crops using genetically modified organisms (GMOs or GM) are big business in the United States. In little more than two decades, GM agriculture constitutes more than 90% of crops such as corn, soy, and canola. The acceptance of GMO foods by consumers, however, has not been as robust—leading to demand for labeling regulations so consumers can identify whether their foods contain GMOs. U.S. law governing GMOs, particularly food labeling, lacks a comprehensive regulatory scheme and is instead highly fragmented. Since 1971, John Deere has been using the popular slogan “Nothing Runs Like a Deere,” symbolizing the strength and self-reliance long associated with American farming. Yet as modern agricultural equipment has become more computerized and complex, manufacturers such as John Deere have restricted farmers’ ability to independently repair the equipment they own, through the use of unattainable software, licensing agreements, digital locks, and warranty limitations. The modern right-to-repair movement challenges this shift. At its core, the movement asserts that ownership should include the ability to repair the product that a consumer owns. A persistent challenge on college campuses is effectively connecting students with the wide array of university resources available to them. At the University of Florida, an opportunity to address this challenge emerged when the Florida Museum of Natural History (FLMNH), a major campus institution with extensive scientific collections, was scheduled for a 15-month closure due to renovations. In response, librarians at the Marston Science Library initiated a collaborative partnership with FLMNH, offering the library as a venue for science-related events and programming. The Texas Tech University (TTU) Digital Scholarship Lab (DSL) often collaborates on digitization projects with the Southwest Collection (SWC) archives. Within the past three years the DSL has branched out to new sources of projects, including university research institutions, other colleges and departments, and Lubbock community entities. At times, these partnerships became entangled with the SWC’s collecting goals, resulting in the need for expanded and more effective communication about integrated project management.
