Some Aspects Of Topic Shifting In Moroccan Arabic, Lhoussine Oumazane

This paper examines conversational topic shifting in Moroccan Arabic, focusing on the markers and devices speakers use to move from one topic to another within the same interaction. After reviewing relevant literature and methodology, it distinguishes several forms of topic shift, including genuine topic shifts, sub-topic shifts, and topic recycling. The analysis identifies markers such as pauses, genuine topic-shift utterances, attention-getting devices, and topic-recycling markers, and discusses their discourse functions. The study shows that topic-shift markers do not perform a single function only, but help structure conversation, introduce new referents, manage interaction, and delimit useful units for discourse analysis.

This article offers preliminary geomorphological observations on the Telmest area downstream of Wadi Tensift. It describes the location of the study area and analyzes the main morphological and structural units that shape the landscape, including coastal and inland formations, Jbel Kourati, Quaternary deposits, valleys, slopes, and contact zones between geological units. The study uses maps, sketches, and cross-sections to identify the distribution of landforms and to interpret the processes that contributed to their formation. It provides an initial framework for understanding the geomorphological organization of this part of western Morocco and its relation to regional relief and drainage patterns.

It traces the rapid demographic growth of the city, the expansion of its urban fabric, and the effects of colonial planning, port activities, and industrialization on its spatial organization. The article examines population figures, the growth of residential districts, the role of the port, and the differentiation between planned European areas and other urban neighborhoods. This article studies the exegete Al-Khazin by presenting his historical context, life, scholarly formation, and principal works, with particular attention to his contribution to Qur’anic interpretation. It then offers glimpses of his exegetical method, especially in Lubab al-Ta’wil fi Ma’ani al-Tanzil, by examining how he uses Qur’anic cross-references, prophetic traditions, reports from earlier authorities, Arabic linguistic evidence, and other tools of classical tafsir. The article aims to clarify Al-Khazin’s place within Islamic scholarship and to show the main features that structure his approach to interpreting the Qur’an.

This article examines the status of the “sciences of the ancients” in Ibn Hazm’s Zahiri thought, with particular attention to logic and philosophy. It reassesses the view that Ibn Hazm simply adopted Aristotelian logic, showing instead that his engagement with earlier sciences was selective and governed by the requirements of textual interpretation, religious knowledge, and intellectual rigor. The study discusses his distinction between the useful logical tools that help clarify meaning and the philosophical doctrines that he rejects when they conflict with Islamic belief. The process of building “civil peace” is a dynamic process that aims at creating appropriate conditions of peace when conflicting forces, groups, and polices diverge. Peace And Reconciliation In Mozambique: The Influence Of Economic Support On The Reintegration Of Ex-Combatants In Murrupula District, Isac José Alberto

This article analyses the impact of economic support on the reintegration of ex-combatants in Murrupula District, Mozambique, under the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) programme. Based on a qualitative methodology and a case study, semi-structured interviews, focus groups and direct observation were conducted. The results reveal structural limitations, such as weak coordination between implementers and beneficiaries, scarcity of funding, and the disconnect between intervention strategies and local realities. These weaknesses have compromised the economic inclusion of ex-combatants and accentuated tensions with the receiving communities, aggravated by a context of widespread poverty. Social innovation is an expanding practice in the peacebuilding sector. In this article, three peace scholar-practitioners reflect on our experiences as peacebuilders and consider the utility, tensions, and possibilities for peace and social innovation in theory and in practice. We draw insights gleaned through a focus group workshop with peacebuilding colleagues and highlight three case study examples from Colombia, the Philippines, and Kenya, each demonstrating the challenges and opportunities of social innovation in the peace sector. This article describes a criminal justice senior-level undergraduate course, CRIJ 4350: Peace, Nonviolence, & Justice, at a Hispanic-serving institution known as the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, in the U.S.-Mexico borderlands. The course centers five key frameworks: critical pedagogy, intersectionality, decolonial theory, restorative and transformative justice, and trauma-informed care, as this course departs from carceral models of justice education. The problem is that adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) affect the coping skills of college students, resulting in challenges in graduating from higher education institutions. The goal of the study was to analyze how temporality, sociality, and spatiality intersect to influence these individuals’ journeys to graduation. The research addressed the critical issue of how ACEs influence academic persistence and success among this demographic, who are disproportionately affected by challenges due to childhood adversities. As teacher preparation programs across the United States grapple with declining enrollments, institutions such as Alabama A&M University are exploring unique approaches to improving university students’ interests in the teaching profession. One such approach is the Teacher Ambassador Program (T.A.P.), a student-led initiative that empowers current teacher candidates to serve as leaders in the recruitment and support of others who are currently pursuing teaching degrees or who are interested in entering the teaching pathway. This piece provides an overview of the Teacher Ambassador Program (T.A.P.) and reflects on how the program can benefit both students and institutions.

Until recently, higher education in the United States was widely perceived as a primary pathway to social mobility and economic advancement. However, contemporary institutions now face sustained disruption driven by demographic shifts, affordability concerns, political pressures, leadership turnover, and rapid technological change. In this reflection paper, we examine how leadership disruption has become both a symptom and a catalyst of broader systemic challenges in U.S. higher education. Drawing on current scholarship, we argue that disruption, when accompanied by human-centered change management and intentional approaches to organizational resilience, can foster institutional clarity, adaptability, and renewal. The impact of stress on learning is complex and multifaceted, and there is a balance between stress that promotes learning and that which inhibits it. This study presents a qualitative analysis of students’ responses to a questionnaire about their experience using virtual reality (VR) in a perspective-taking task to promote empathy for patients with physical limitations due to arthritis of the hands. Including data collected from a first-year course in 2023, 2024, and 2025, 214 students ranked their stress while experiencing the task, and those who ranked stress as anything other than “no stress” were asked to elaborate on the …
