Qcd Factorization With Multihadron Fragmentation Functions, T. C. Rogers, M. Radici, A. Courtoy, T. Rainaldi

Physics Faculty Publications

Important aspects of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) factorization theorems are the properties of the objects involved that can be identified as universal. One example is that the definitions of parton densitiesand fragmentation functions for different types of hadrons differ only in the identity of the nonperturbative states that form the matrix elements, but are otherwise the same. This leads to independence of perturbativecalculations on nonperturbative details of external states. It also lends support to interpretations ofcorrelation functions as encapsulations of intrinsic nonperturbative properties. These characteristics have usually been presumed to still hold true in fragmentation functions even when the observed nonperturbative …

Static And Dynamic Properties Of Atomic Nuclei With High-Resolution Potentials, Alex Gnech, Alessandro Lovato, Noemi Rocco Jan 2025

Static And Dynamic Properties Of Atomic Nuclei With High-Resolution Potentials, Alex Gnech, Alessandro Lovato, Noemi Rocco

Physics Faculty Publications

We compute ground-state and dynamical properties of 4He and 16O nuclei using as input high-resolution, phenomenological nucleon-nucleon and three-nucleon forces that are local in coordinate space. The nuclear Schrödinger equation for both nuclei is accurately solved employing the auxiliary-field diffusion Monte Carlo approach. For the 4He nucleus, detailed benchmarks are carried out with the hyperspherical harmonics method. In addition to presenting results for the binding energies and radii, we also analyze the momentum distributions of these nuclei and their Euclidean response function corresponding to the isoscalar density transition. The latter quantity is particularly relevant for lepton-nucleus scattering experiments, as it …

Evaluating Nurse Conscientious Objection: Application Of A Novel Framework, Maya Zumstein-Shaha, Lucia D. Wocial, Vicki D. Lachman, Norah Louise Johnson, Cynda Hylton Rushton, Pamela J. Grace Jan 2025

Evaluating Nurse Conscientious Objection: Application Of A Novel Framework, Maya Zumstein-Shaha, Lucia D. Wocial, Vicki D. Lachman, Norah Louise Johnson, Cynda Hylton Rushton, Pamela J. Grace

College of Nursing Faculty Research and Publications

Certain moral beliefs and/or values about what is good or harmful can cause nurses and other healthcare professionals to object to participating in some clinical actions. Such objections are also called conscientious objections. Invocation of a conscientious objection (CO) can produce complexities in patient care and health care delivery and must be mindfully evaluated for its soundness. In this manuscript, a recently developed framework, The Ethical Evaluation of a Nurse’s Conscientious Objection (EENCO), is applied to expose hidden elements and nuances in a proposed or actual CO by nurses or other healthcare professionals, thereby illuminating strategies that can lessen associated …

Bridgeville Elementary: A Big History Of A Small School, Virginia Howard Mullan Jan 2025

Bridgeville Elementary: A Big History Of A Small School, Virginia Howard Mullan

Trade & Scholarly Monographs

Bridgeville Elementary: A Big History of a Small School is not a work of writing that is meant to be read from the beginning to the end. It is for those of us who only attended Bridgeville School for a short time but wanted to recapture those years. It is for teachers and students bitten by the nostalgia bug that want to revisit the school, (like Sean Byrd in 2024 or Mary Brandenburg (Jardin) in 1999) but don’t have the time or means to make a trip to the remote northwest.

Objective: To pilot an analgesic decision tree (ADT) featuring non-opioid analgesics to reduce postoperative pain, opioid consumption, and the incidence of adverse events during the first 48 hours after patients undergo a posterior spinal fusion. Methods: A literature review of opioid-sparing analgesics was conducted and a protocol developed as an interdisciplinary collaboration. The ADT …

Readmission Reduction Of 1st Year Transplant Recipients, Kristin Freed Jan 2025

Readmission Reduction Of 1st Year Transplant Recipients, Kristin Freed

Yale School of Nursing Digital Theses

Abstract Readmission Reduction of 1st Year Transplant Recipients Clear communication with patients at their health-literacy level improves patient outcomes, fosters trust, and is associated with readmission reduction. Readmission of transplant recipients are correlated with morbidity, medical errors, higher healthcare economic costs, and indicative of decreased survival post- transplant. Literature suggests that up to 72% of transplant recipients may have low health literacy increasing risk of readmission. The Agency of Healthcare Research and Quality created the REALM-SF assessment as a tool for medical providers to evaluate a patient’s health literacy status in a timely manner. This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) …

Improving Equity In Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Risk, Jordan Levandoski Jan 2025

Improving Equity In Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Risk, Jordan Levandoski

Yale School of Nursing Digital Theses

The current use of racial categorization in Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease (ASCVD) risk, limits assessment of confounders beyond cholesterol. The Life’s Essential Eight (LE8) categories of healthy diet, sleep, physical activity, smoking, body mass index, hypertension, total cholesterol, and blood glucose could reduce two million ASCVD events per year. The documentation of Z codes 55 – 65 describe social drivers of health (SDH) like housing, economics, and social systems which complicate care. Development of the ASCVD risk assessment and management protocol (ASCVD-RAMP) assessed ASCVD risk without race modification in patients aged 45 – 75 and improved health equity by pairing SDH …

Increasing Professional Interpreter Use To Improve Patient Outcomes On The Inpatient Oncology Unit, Kimberly Medina Jan 2025

Increasing Professional Interpreter Use To Improve Patient Outcomes On The Inpatient Oncology Unit, Kimberly Medina

Yale School of Nursing Digital Theses

Language barriers in healthcare contribute to significant disparities including delays in diagnosis and treatment, patient confusion, and increased mortality (Kwan et al., 2023). Approximately 21.5% of the people in the United States speak a language other than English at home and 8.2% of that population subset report speaking English less than very well (U.S. Census Bureau, 2021). Furthermore, in 2023 8% of Medicare beneficiaries have limited English proficiency (LEP) speaking and 7% have LEP reading (Centers for Medicare &Medicaid, 2024). Ensuring meaningful language access to LEP patients is essential for improving clinical outcomes and maintaining compliance to federal anti-discrimination policies. …

Developing A Standardized Workplace Violence Prevention Program For Healthcare Leaders To Enhance Safety, Kaleena Soorma Jan 2025

Developing A Standardized Workplace Violence Prevention Program For Healthcare Leaders To Enhance Safety, Kaleena Soorma

Yale School of Nursing Digital Theses

Abstract

Developing a Standardized Workplace Violence Prevention Program for Healthcare Leaders to Enhance Safety

The increasing threat of Type 2 workplace violence (client on staff) in healthcare disproportionately impacts employees such as Nurses. Desensitization to this growing trend in healthcare has contributed to perceptions that WPV has become an unavoidable risk, especially for those delivering care in high-risk areas such as the emergency department (ED).

The critical need to reevaluate WPV prevention strategies in healthcare, while highlighting systemic failures such as underreporting, is integral to driving a culture of safety. This project aimed to provide a post-incident Type 2 WPV …

This thesis presents the design and development of custom hardware, based upon RF (Radio Frequency) MEMS (Micro Electro-Mechanical System) switch technology and a grounded, conductor backed, edge coupled, coplanar waveguide transmission line design to facilitate protocol-agnostic, electrically transparent switching of different hard-wire protocols, such as Ethernet, USB (Universal Serial Bus), CAN (Controller Area Network) bus, RF and more within an IT/OT (Informational/Operational Technology) environment. This is achieved through a distributed, decentralised switch fabric composed of individual switch fabric nodes, which achieves fully reconfigurable IT/OT environments at the electrical level. Traditional IT/OT environments consist of diverse systems involving computers, network switches, …

Anomaly Detection Based Post Gripping Perception For Industrial Logistics Robotics, Firas Zoghlami Jan 2025

Anomaly Detection Based Post Gripping Perception For Industrial Logistics Robotics, Firas Zoghlami

School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics Theses

The adoption of low volume high mix manufacturing lines in global production sites has lead to a great need for flexible automation solutions. Flexible intelligent robots as an example are increasingly deployed in new industrial environments, such as the intra-logistics, in order to increase the automation level of the mentioned manufacturing lines. The lack of structure and the high dynamic of such industrial environments lead to potential performance deterioration related to unexpected events that are not recognized by the robot. Detecting such changes in the robot environment is believed in this thesis to be possible with anomaly detection techniques which …
