Optimized Wavelet Scatter Method For Accurate Classification And Segmentation Of Lung Nodules, Enas Hamood Al-Saadi, Ahmed Nidhal Khdiar, Nidhal K. El Abbadi
Mesopotamian Journal of Big Data
Lung cancer is a significant global health concern due to its high mortality rate. This is primarily due to the difficulty of identifying malignant growths in early-stage computed tomography (CT) images. The thing is, it's often hard to tell the difference between a benign nodule and a malignant one. This makes it tricky to figure out what's going on with the patient. That's where these computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) approaches come in. This study introduces a lightweight and interpretable framework for comprehensively analyzing lung nodules, including their detection, classification, and segmentation. This approach uses the wavelet scattering transform (WST) to extract …

Hybrid Cooperative Spectrum Structured (Hcss) Approach For Adaptive Routing In Cognitive Radio Ad Hoc Networks, Sadeem Dheyaa Shamsi, Ameer Sameer Hamood Mohammed Ali, Wameed Deyah Shamsi
Mesopotamian Journal of CyberSecurity
Cognitive radio networks provide an important function in the efficient use of the radio spectrum. Therefore, dedicated cognitive radio ad hoc networks (CRAHNs) are expected to improve communication performance in a multihop network that requires a dedicated routing protocol that considers the dynamic mobility of secondary user nodes on the basis of the random availability of primary node channels. To enhance routing in the CRAHNs environment, in this paper, a novel Hybrid Cooperative Spectrum Structured (HCSS) approach that combines cooperative spectrum sensing and spectrum-aware routing protocols can be effective in appropriate decision making for routing packets in such a network. …

Malware detection is a vital problem, and efficient methods that can efficiently detect malware are needed. The increasing use of mobile computers makes malware detection a vital part of security in an era where smartphones have come to play a key role in many of our daily lives. Earlier approaches, however, suffer from high false positive rates; they are not scalable for larger databases, or they are not amenable to adapt well to novel zero-day malware. For these reasons, the demand for more sensitive and flexible detection models is high. In this study, we develop a hybrid mobile malware detection …

Mesopotamian Journal of CyberSecurity
Smartphone authentication systems must balance security and user convenience, which is a persistent challenge in the digital realm. Traditional biometrics, such as fingerprints and facial recognition, face vulnerabilities to spoofing and environmental conditions, limiting reliability. This study introduces a novel approach by integrating three-dimensional (3D) touch sensors with finger location data for authentication. The goal is to develop a system that improves accuracy while minimizing false positives and negatives, leveraging touch pressure and spatial interaction as unique biometric identifiers. Data from 20 participants, including pressure levels, spatial coordinates, and timestamps, were analysed using Random Forest (RF) and Extreme Gradient Boosting …

Early Entering Research And Writing (Eerw) In College-Level Statistics, Rebecca Fang
2025 Faculty Bibliography
With the high demand for data-driven knowledge, students today need to comprehend skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration. However, in traditional statistics lectures, students learn descriptive algorithms, hypothesis, and linear regression at their early stage of college. Unfortunately, they often analyze numbers without considering the context, purpose, audience, and the meaning of the numbers. Therefore, providing students the early opportunity to research and write with data in college will allow them to deepen their understanding of the subjects, to think critically about the data and the results, to communicate effectively with diverse audience, and to prepare for their …

The Risk–Reward Trade-Off Of Hedging In Trade And Security: Trump’S First Administration And Its Impacts On Thailand, Qiyu Zhang
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Against the backdrop of an increasingly polarized global landscape and intensifying Sino-American competition, this paper conducts an in-depth analysis of the risk-reward trade-offs inherent in Thailand’s ‘hedging strategy’ during Donald Trump’s first term (2017-2021). Hedging policy occupies a middle ground between “alignment” and ‘balancing’, aiming to diversify risks and maintain flexibility. It constitutes a strategic approach enabling nations to derive benefits from great power competition while preserving avenues for retreat. Through in-depth research, this paper finds that Thailand, as a small power, gained short-term economic benefits through its hedging strategy, such as manufacturing relocation and export growth. However, these gains …
Reclaiming Myth: Feminist Reinterpretations And The Creation Of A More Inclusive Narrative, Isabella Iurillo
Reclaiming Myth: Feminist Reinterpretations And The Creation Of A More Inclusive Narrative, Isabella Iurillo
All Student Theses and Dissertations
This thesis examines the role of mythological reinterpretation and its expansion of the literary canon to inclusively reflect human experiences. According to scholars of myth such as Kalloli, Tyagi, and Armstrong, myths are meant to reflect enduring human experiences, making them relatable classics even after thousands of years. However, as the majority of mythological women are largely silenced, misrepresented, or villainized in ancient myth, this reflection is both incomplete and distorted. This thesis examines three contemporary feminist reinterpretations-- Stone Blind by Natalie Haynes, Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker, and Circe by Madeline Miller—each of which gives a voice …

Amazon is magical. Search the online marketplace for pretty much anything you can imagine—not to mention all the things you never imagined; you will likely find what you were searching for and be able to have it delivered in two days or less. The magic is not just in Amazon’s vast array of innovative consumer products but also in its providing access to goods that are unavailable locally. An extreme example of Amazon’s ability to supply goods that were not locally available may be found in the pandemic lockdowns of 2020, when neighborhood stores were out of toilet paper and …

Scholars are obsessed with the Roberts Court’s recent turn to history and tradition. But another source of authority has also emerged as an important feature of the Roberts Court’s approach to constitutional cases. In previous work, I have referred to this source of authority as popular meaning. While original meaning identifies the best reading of the Constitution’s text at the time of its ratification, popular meaning draws on sources of authority outside the courts to capture the constitutional views of the American people today. In this Article, I demonstrate how interpreters might draw on the Constitution’s popular meaning to help …

A Crust Of Bread: Religious Resistance And The Fourteenth Amendment, Kurt T. Lash, Stephanie Hall Barclay

In Employment Division v. Smith, the U.S. Supreme Court denied heightened constitutional protection to religiously motivated exercise burdened by neutral and generally applicable laws. The history presented in this Article suggests that the Smith approach conflicts with the original understanding of the Fourteenth Amendment. Out of the crucible of religious abolitionist resistance to the Fugitive Slave Act emerged a substantive theory of constitutional religious freedom: American citizens should have the right to obey the Biblical command to care for the needy and provide the hungry a "crust of bread," even if doing so was contrary to neutral and generally …

Looking back at the federal courts over the last generation, commentators will likely focus on their role in undermining the functioning of the regulatory state. Well-acknowledged in this story are Supreme Court decisions that have constrained administrative agencies under the newly minted “major questions” doctrine, as well as the Court’s blockbuster decision overruling the longstanding Chevron doctrine. The Court also has made it increasingly difficult for individuals—often workers and consumers, people of color, women, and those who live from paycheck to paycheck—to seek federal judicial redress for regulatory violations as private enforcers. And the Court has questioned whether certain private …

Sulfate Sources In Groundwater From An Agricultural Area Central Illinois, Christabel I. Obi
Theses and Dissertations
Increasing sulfate (SO42-) concentrations in the water environment, corresponding with increases in urbanization and industrialization, are a rising global concern. Over 250 mg/L, sulfate threatens human health and ecosystems. Elevated concentrations influence carbonate rock weathering, contributing to the evolution of the global carbon cycle. Knowledge of sulfate sources, whether natural or anthropogenic, is essential for understanding sulfate transport and fate in groundwater. This study investigates SO42- origin and transport in groundwater in an area dominated by agricultural land use in Mclean County, Illinois. Specifically, we explored these questions: 1) Do sulfate concentrations change with groundwater …

When New Jersey reinstated the death penalty in 1983, the state hadn’t conducted an execution in twenty years, so no one knew how to conduct an execution by lethal injection. Doctors at the state prison refused to participate, citing medical ethics that required them to “support life, not end it,” and that left prison officials thinking that they might have to conduct the executions themselves. “That is not an easy task for an amateur,” a reporter covering the quandary wrote. Unsure of what else do to, officials called upon Fred Leuchter, an engineer who had worked with a number of …

Interspecific interactions vary depending on environmental and genetic factors, with intraspecific variation potentially altering these relationships. Specifically, intraspecific variation within host plants and their endosymbionts may affect above- and belowground interactions depending on environmental conditions. We examined how intraspecific variation within the salt marsh foundation species Spartina alterniflora and a common fungal root endosymbiont (Lulworthia sp.) affected their interactions. We conducted a glasshouse experiment comparing interactions between Spartina growth forms (tall-form from low marsh and short-form from high marsh) and Lulworthia isolates from different marsh locations, and a laboratory experiment exposing Lulworthia isolates from both endpoints of a tidal elevation …

The horseshoe crab, Limulus polyphemus, has recently been found to spawn regularly in salt marshes, despite the long-held assumption that salt marsh sediments are not conducive for embryonic development. Here, we tested the prediction that eggs laid in the salt marsh would develop more slowly and be less viable than eggs laid on beaches. We flagged the nests of spawning horseshoe crabs in the marshes and beaches of three states—South Carolina, Connecticut, and New Hampshire—and then excavated those nests one or three weeks later. We staged the excavated embryos to compare developmental progress between marshes and beaches. We found …
Attention's Loop: A Sculptor's Reverie On The Coexistence Of Substance And Spirit, Elizabeth King, Katherine Wetzel
Attention's Loop: A Sculptor's Reverie On The Coexistence Of Substance And Spirit, Elizabeth King, Katherine Wetzel
Attention's Loop
This is a book about attention and memory. I am a sculptor, so it is also a book about size, dirt, artifice, work, and eye. The text is a set of stories and interruptions that pile up to make a play of overlapping loops. My organizing principle is the image of the round-trip, so one may open the book and step into it at any point. Most of Katherine Wetzel’s photographs are of a single sculpture. It is a self-portrait, a particular kind of round-trip, and it is small: one-half life-size. Called Pupil, it is jointed and movable, and …

Scholars across disciplines such as sociology, economics, and urban planning are writing about gentrification. The literature and beliefs surrounding gentrification are very diverse, but what often connects the various views is a negative perception that gentrification always disadvantages and displaces low-income minority residents, physically or culturally. But the connotations of race and class associated with gentrification in the minds of many do not align with the empirical research and scholarly findings. Thus far in law, there is no thick legal account of gentrification and its legal or policy implications. Much of the legal writing is predicated upon an inaccurate conception …

The Stockholm Resilience Centre has concluded that the number of “planetary boundaries” we are crossing has increased from three in 2009, when the Centre’s researchers first introduced the concept, to six in 2023. Crossing these boundaries means humans are changing basic attributes of planetary systems to the point of risking the future of civilization. And the distinction between “safe” and “just” planetary boundaries raises questions regarding how to conceptualize the “good life.” In this latest in a biannual series of essays, members of the Environmental Law Collaborative explore conceptions of the “good” as well as the various elements necessary to …

Tethered to and inextricably linked with the absence or decline of democratic governance, there has always been empire. Empires rise and fall, as they say, but the imperial impulse is perennial and new iterations of old empires emerge with dismal regularity, showing us that imperial formations are hard to erase...

Stories about the family, work, and the market circulate in law, legal discourse, and beyond. The family, we are told by numerous authorities, is a non-market site, centred on emotional attachment rather than economic transaction. It is a site of interpersonal care, growth, and nurturance that acts as a counter to the excesses of an unbridled marketplace. The market, in contrast, is a site where autonomous beings contract, pursuing their interests efficiently and maximising wealth. This is one masterplot of the market, which, as it operates in the United States, constructs certain household members outside of the market and constructs …
