English Catholic history continues to tread new ground, revisit old theories, and draw together theoretical and geographical frameworks. However, it continues to struggle to be accepted as part of the "mainstream" narrative of English history. In this review essay, I explore three key areas of growth related to the study of sixteenth-century English Catholicism: returning Catholics to the "high politics" of England; a renewed emphasis on gender, particularly the role of religious women; and an international/transnational orientation that reaffirms the close ties between Britain and the Continent. This case study examines the impact of specialized coaching support for preservice special education teachers with autism during their senior year of their teacher preparation program with specific focus on practicum and student teaching placements. The study involved two undergraduate students, ages 21 and 20, diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, who were in their final year of a special education licensure program at a university in a rural area in the Midsouth region of the United States. This vast administrative power has remained opaque even to those who receive these subpoenas and invisible to those it affects most. Indeed, the very people targeted by these subpoenas often don’t know they exist, much less how they facilitate arrest and deportation. The Supreme Court has recently adopted a new rule of religious equality: Laws unconstitutionally discriminate against religion when they deny religious exemptions but provide secular exemptions that undermine the law’s interests to the same degree as would a religious exemption. All the Justices and a cadre of scholars have agreed in principle with this approach to religious equality. This Essay argues that this new rule of religious equality is inherently unworkable, in part because it turns on treating that which is religious the same as its secular “comparators.” But religion is not comparable to anything neither in terms of its …

The U.S. Supreme Court interprets the Eighth Amendment to prohibit members of certain groups from serving extreme punishments, such as the death penalty and life without parole. For example, the Court has long banned death sentences for people with intellectual disability and for those who were under eighteen years old at the time of their crime. More recently, in Graham v. Florida and Miller v. Alabama, the Court extended this reasoning to sentences of life without parole for those under eighteen—prohibiting the sentence altogether for nonhomicide crimes and barring its mandatory imposition for homicides.

It is a banal truism that judicial deference to agency decisionmaking enables the executive branch to pursue its agenda, whatever that agenda may be. That was obvious to all in the early years of the Chevron decision, which was greeted enthusiastically on the right and skeptically on the left. In Chevron itself, and for a while thereafter, deference advanced the Reagan deregulatory program. Over the years, a subtler conclusion gained consensus: overall and in the long haul, judicial deference is likely to have a net pro-regulatory impact. The proposed wavelength multiplexed, volume holographic optical coupler uses total internal reflection to guide incident light of a wavelength from 317nm to 700nm. The diffractive elements are recorded with 457nm (transmission holographic recording) and 532nm (reflection holographic recording) lasers in Bayfol HX 200^TM photopolymer. Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare, highly aggressive CD4+ CD56+ hematopoietic malignancy. The cutaneous presentation is variable but often includes violaceous nodules. We present a rare case of BPDCN, which featured dermatological findings consisting of erythematous macules, petechiae, purpura, and a violaceous nodule. A skin biopsy and peripheral blood smear supported a diagnosis of BPDCN. With BPDCN favoring cutaneous involvement, we urge dermatologists to be aware of the possibility of a BPDCN diagnosis in patients who present with purpuric nodules and petechial skin findings, especially when it is not easily explainable by another pathology or medication.

There is robust evidence for a causal association between spatial thinking and mathematics achievement. However, most research has been lab-based, with spatial training delivered by researchers. We present a teacher delivered, whole-class 6-week spatial training study that involved professional development for practitioners coupled with teacher-led LEGO® block construction training for 6- to 7-year-olds. Using a quasi-experimental design, N = 409 children completed the training and N = 103 children formed a business-as-usual control group. For spatial ability and mathematics, but not spatial language, children in the training condition showed improved performance relative to controls. This finding extends evidence of the …

The study investigates the relationship between internal and external training load and neuromuscular performance in elite soccer players. Twenty-eight professional players from a squad across a season participated. Players performed a countermovement jump as a measure of neuromuscular performance, with tests conducted the day before a game. Training load data were aggregated over 7-, 14-, and 28-day periods to assess their relationship with performance metrics, including reactive strength index modified (RSI-mod), time to take off, and jump height. Cu(II), Mn(II) and Ag(I) complexes incorporating bridging dicarboxylate and 1,10-phenanthroline ligands have exhibited anti-cancer potential with significant in vitro and in vivo cytotoxic efficacies. Our study focuses on regulated cell death process of apoptosis as a mode of action of the anti-cancer activity by the complexes. Cytotoxicity screening of the complexes demonstrated all the metal-dicarboxylate-phenanthroline complexes exhibit superior activity compared to their non-phenanthroline containing precursors, in addition to cisplatin. The Cu(II) and Mn(II) complexes were shown to induce reactive oxygen species (ROS) but this was not observed for the Ag(I) analogues. Furthermore, apoptosis was found to be induced by all …

Background/Objectives: Coupling mobile health (mHealth) technology with community-based nutrition programs may enhance diet quality in adolescents. This pilot study evaluated the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of integrating PortionSize Ed (PSEd), an image-assisted dietary assessment and education app, into the six-week Hawaii Food and Lifeskills for Youth (HI-FLY) curriculum delivered via Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed). A high-speed, shape-transitioned, inward-turning intake was tested in Purdue’s Boeing/AFOSR Mach 6 Quiet Tunnel. The inlet model, called the Indiana Inlet (INlet), had a total contraction ratio of 4.68:1 and a design point of Mach 6 at 0° angle of attack. The model was outfitted with a suite of high-frequency pressure transducers, and the external flowfield was imaged with high-speed schlieren photography. The INlet was tested under low freestream disturbance levels for a variety of freestream unit Reynolds numbers and at-4° angle of attack. A lot has been written about the crisis of indigent defense and the plethora of factors that have led to the crisis, like the lack of guidance on how indigent defense providers can most efficiently distribute their insufficient resources.
