Trauma Work With Horses: Compassion And Connection, Olivia Sagan Prof

New ways of working with trauma survivors are being sought with the case being made that dominant trauma therapies have relied too heavily on verbal narration and cognitive processing.  Evidence suggests that traumatic experiences are often encoded in sensory, emotional, physiological, and relational systems that may be difficult to access through language alone. This has led to interest in the potential of body-oriented, movement-based, and experiential interventions alongside traditional talk therapies. There are also calls for exploring nature-based therapies as these have shown that engagement with natural environments may help aid the process of healing. Perceived discrimination has consistently been shown to be associated with diminished mental health, but the psychological processes underlying this link are less well understood. The present series of four studies assessed the role of a history traumatic events in generating a proliferation of discrimination stressors and threat appraisals, which in turn predict psychological distress (depressive and posttraumatic stress symptoms) (mediation model), or whether prior traumatic events sensitize group members, such that when they encounter discrimination, the link to stress-related symptoms is heightened (moderation model). Each year, SC TEACHER administers the SC Teacher Exit Survey to public PK–12 classroom teachers who are leaving teaching positions in their districts. The survey provides insight into departing teachers’ next steps, the factors that contributed to their decisions to leave, and the conditions that might encourage some educators to remain in or return to South Carolina public education.

This report summarizes results from the 2026 SC Teacher Exit Survey, focusing on teachers who left their positions at the end of the 2025–26 academic year. Findings are organized by exit type to distinguish different forms of teacher mobility, including teachers …

This Volume I report presents Australia’s PISA 2025 results at the international and national level, including results for key student groups. It examines recent trends since PISA 2022 and longer-term trends since reading (2000), mathematics (2003) and science (2006) were first assessed as the focal domains. The results in this report are based on a nationally representative sample of Australian 15-year-old students, stratified using variables of jurisdiction; school sector; geographic location; student sex composition; and a measure of socioeconomic background.

Background: Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma(MTC) had special entity in thyroid oncology because of unresponsiveness to Radioiodine and TSH suppression. The tumour originates from parafollicular C cells, not follicular epithelium, and that single histogenetic difference accounts for most of what makes this disease clinically difficult. Cure, when it happens, comes from surgery. When surgery is inadequate, the options that remain are limited. Most cases are sporadic. The minority with germline RET mutations; the hereditary forms; tend to present differently and demand a distinct pre-operative protocol, particularly regarding co-existing endocrine pathology.

Many individuals living with HIV experience persistent inflammation despite antiretroviral treatment, increasing their risk for cardiovascular diseases, cognitive decline, and other noncommunicable diseases. Carotenoids can inhibit this inflammation by reducing lipid peroxidation. Carotenoid intake and plasma concentrations can be approximated using a noninvasive cutaneous spectrophotometer. This study quantified skin carotenoid levels in Tanzanian children ages 5 to 15 years old (N = 185) both with and without HIV. Over 95% had low to moderate skin carotenoid scores (< 400 units). In children living with HIV, higher viral loads were linked to lower skin carotenoid scores (rho = -0.57, P < 0.001), whereas higher CD4 counts correlated with increased skin carotenoid scores (rho = 0.52, P < 0.001). Overall, carotenoid levels were low and associated with immune status, suggesting that elevated carotenoid scores correlate with lower inflammation in children living with HIV. Future studies investigating dietary carotenoid interventions to support immune function are warranted.

Spontaneous Uterine Cornual Rupture In The Second Trimester Of Dichorionic-Diamniotic Twin Pregnancy, Britney Margheim, Timothy Nguyen, Mathias Wiebe, Milton Zheng, Saurabh Kumar, Roufan Yoa

Background Uterine rupture is a rare but life-threatening obstetric emergency, usually associated with labor in patients with a prior cesarean delivery. Spontaneous rupture remote from a uterine scar, particularly at the cornua in the second trimester, is exceedingly uncommon.

Case We report a 30-year-old gravida 2 para 1 at 253/7 weeks’ gestation with a dichorionic–diamniotic twin pregnancy who presented with abrupt abdominal pain and hemoperitoneum of unclear etiology. Despite reassuring imaging, progressive maternal deterioration and non-reassuring fetal status prompted emergent laparotomy and cesarean delivery. A 3 cm × 3 cm full-thickness left cornual rupture was identified.

Leadership To Strengthen Research Culture And Foster Responsible Conduct Of Research: A Case Study, Seán Lacey, Jean Ricken, Stephen Cassidy

Publications

Objective Research performing organizations (RPOs) are increasingly expected to strengthen research culture and support the responsible conduct of research (RCR). Institutional supports are central to advancing research culture across RPOs. To inform development and evaluation of these supports, surveys were conducted within an RPO.

Method Perceptions of research culture and RCR were examined using surveys conducted in 2022 and 2024. Between surveys, accessible training and supports on good research practices were developed and deployed.

Results Awareness of research impact, authorship, and collegial support remained high (p > 0.05), with significant improvements in access to resources and reporting pathways for inappropriate research …
