World War II displaced millions of people around the world. “Ink and Internment: The Wartime Artistry of Japanese Americans and Spaniards During World War II” evaluates the internment experiences of Japanese Americans and Spaniards through the lens of art with a special focus on two artists: Miné Okubo and Josep Bartolí. Okubo, a Japanese American artist born in 1927, experienced internment in the United States as a young adult. Her artwork reveals her personal experience as well as that of her fellow internees. Okubo created her art memoir, Citizen 13600, to share the internment experience of Japanese Americans with others. …

During the 2024–2025 reporting year, the division completed research focused on workforce development, training needs, culinary competencies, school food trends, and operational challenges in child nutrition settings.

This thesis explores how twenty-first-century novels grapple with the possibility of transcendence, communication, meaning, feeling, and emotional authenticity in our increasingly digital world. In my grouping of Dennis Cooper’s The Sluts, Ben Lerner’s Leaving the Atocha Station, Tao Lin’s Taipei, and Megan Boyle’s LIVEBLOG, I identify a shared urge towards accessing feelings and sincerity in an age of irony and skepticism through a variety of different formal strategies. This study examined the training needs and preferred training delivery methods of school nutrition and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) professionals across the United States to support future professional development efforts.

Using a two-phase research design, researchers conducted a literature review, expert panel review, survey development, pilot testing, and national survey administration. Tourism, defined widely to include all types and forms of permitted outdoor recreation and visitation to Protected and Conserved Areas (PCAs) including by local, national and international visitors, plays a complex and often contested role in PCAs. While a significant share of global tourism depends on the ecological richness of these areas, their conservation value does not automatically translate into sustainable financial returns. Nonetheless, when effectively managed, tourism in PCAs can generate conservation funding, support local livelihoods, and provide infrastructure investment, particularly in under-resourced landscapes (Leung et al., 2018). Traditional "formalities" in the law of wills-including formal requirements for revocation by destruction-contemplate paper documents, wet signatures, and testators and witnesses in the physical presence of one another. Unless these traditional requirements have been modified by legislation, wills made using one or more electronic formalities will not meet the formal requirements for a valid will. Traditional wills formalities have become something of an outlier as the use of electronic text, records, signatures, and witnessing has become routine in many spheres, including for the creation and storage of valid legal agreements. 《鴛鴦夢》由葉小紈（字蕙綢，1613-1657）創作，為中國戲曲史上現存最早由女性劇作家創作的作品。同代著名劇作家沈自徵盛讚它為「補閨閣所未有」，肯定了它在女性戲曲史上開創先河的成就。目前對於《鴛鴦夢》的研究均從葉小紈的生平背景出發，分析劇本中所表現的「姐妹情誼」，並以「女性劇作」的角度給予評價。然而，拋開了對葉小紈「第一位女性劇作家」的濾鏡，《鴛鴦夢》的作品本身仍然有很多可以討論的空間，本文嘗試回歸文本本身，探索《鴛鴦夢》是否還有未盡之處，重新審視《鴛鴦夢》在中國戲曲史的所在之位。

本文以「夢境書寫」與「謫仙敘事」為雙主軸，突破性別視角的單一框架，回歸文本內部結構分析，重新定位《鴛鴦夢》在戲曲史與文學傳統中的意義。在「夢境」敘事方面，劇中通過「以情補夢」的敘事轉向，將短暫現世昇華為情感的永恆性。又延續了了前的「謫仙」敘事，提出了「情證」敘事，角色將情感體驗轉化為力量，支撐他們達成從「短暫」到「永恆」的轉變。

Although studies have identified the construct of courage and suggested ways for employees to take courageous action in the workplace, no study has examined how entrepreneurs approach situations perceived as high-risk and with uncertain outcomes until now. This study was based on ethical leadership, one of the major components of courage: acting for the higher good. Accurate short-term traffic forecasting is central to modern Intelligent Transportation Systems, supporting route guidance, adaptive signal control, and incident response. Yet producing reliable predictions remains difficult because traffic is highly non-stationary. The relationships among roadway sensors shift during congestion, incidents, weather changes, or fluctuations in demand, and the temporal structure of traffic spans several scales from abrupt minute-level variations to broader daily and weekly rhythms. Models that rely on fixed spatial graphs or a single temporal scale tend to miss these evolving and layered dependencies. Invasive species disrupt ecosystems by altering habitats, competing with native species, and disrupting food webs. The northern Great Plains is an ecologically important region with many wetlands, lakes, and rivers that are under threat from two invasive species, Bighead (Hypophthalmichthys nobilis) and Silver Carp (H. molitrix; bigheaded carp). These large planktivores change the abundance and composition of phytoplankton and zooplankton communities which alters prey for native mussels, fishes, and, potentially, waterfowl. Bigheaded carps have invaded a portion of the Northern Great Plains, and preventing further spread is a primary management goal. My work assists these efforts by providing tools to …

Peas (Pisum sativum L.) and lentils (Lens culinaris) are nutritionally rich pulses valued for their high protein, fiber, and starch content. Although their composition and health advantages are widely known, little is known about the effects of long-term storage on their functional qualities and nutritional value. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of storage conditions and duration on the proximate composition, physical attributes, and techno-functional traits of lentils and peas. The Dectes stem borer (Dectes texanus LeConte, Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) has emerged as an increasingly significant pest of soybean (Glycine max) in South Dakota. Although historically considered a minor concern, rising populations of this insect have led to significant preharvest lodging and subsequent yield loss in affected fields. The Dectes stem borer's larval feeding within the soybean stem interferes with nutrient flow, and as the season progresses, this internal feeding weakens stem integrity, amplifying lodging risks and causing considerable challenges for farmers and researchers. In this thesis, I utilize Collins’ YA dystopian series The Hunger Games to demonstrate that YA literature merits our attention as a valuable jumping point from which young adults can develop critical reading and thinking skills as well as develop enhanced media literacy. My first two chapters, in addition to situating Collins’ works within a long history of dystopian fiction, demonstrate how these works engage with the potential pitfalls of noncritical consumption in our media-saturated world. And in the third and final chapter, I examine how the series provides pathways to resistance and the potential for revolution.

Objectives: This study investigates the use of sustained phonations recorded during high-speed videoendoscopy (HSV) for machine learning-based assessment of hoarseness severity (H). The performance of this approach is compared with conventional recordings obtained during voice therapy to evaluate key differences and limitations of HSV-derived acoustic recordings. Methods: A database of 617 voice recordings with a duration of 250 ms was gathered during HSV examination (HS). Two databases comprising 809 vowels recorded during voice therapy were used for comparison, examining recording durations of 1 second (VT-1) and 250 ms (VT-2). Kalimantan comprises nearly three quarters of the island of Borneo and is the place where scientific study of Bornean birds began. We describe the history of bird research in Kalimantan from its beginning, highlighting the ornithologists who explored the region and how their interests and methods changed over time, from a concentration on specimen collection, to examinations of community ecology, to conservation in the face of habitat change and species depletion, to the latest investigations using satellite, genetic, and digital technology. We also highlight some future directions for research, especially the need for more work on basic ecology and biogeography. …

World literature plays a key role in understanding the global diversity of human storytelling. However, datasets suitable for large-scale cross-cultural analysis remain limited. Responding to the increasing digitization of literary texts and the need for more diverse and multilingual resources, we introduce Mini Worldlit, a manually curated dataset of 1,192 works of contemporary fiction from 13 countries, representing nine languages across five continents. Mini Worldlit employs consistent cross-cultural selection criteria, overseen by scholarly experts, to ensure geographic, linguistic, and stylistic coherence. The dataset provides a foundation for future comparative studies of global literary cultures, offering a template for cross-cultural sampling. …

Urban studies have a long tradition of examining the regularity of urban structure by modelling urban population density functions and probing the theoretical or behavioural foundation behind it. Previous studies commonly used census data in areal units such as census tracts or census block groups, which varied a great deal in area size and shape and led to the zonal and scale effects, commonly referred to as the modifiable areal unit problem (MAUP). Despite eroding consensus about credible political news sources, much of the public still trusts local media. We assess the emergence, sources, and implications of the trust advantage local news holds over national media. We argue the public now uses a news outlet's local orientation as a shortcut to assess its credibility. In survey experiments, we find unfamiliar news outlets are trusted more when they have a local cue in their name. In surveys where people evaluate digital sources covering their community, this heuristic leads the public to trust unreliable information providers that signal a local focus more than high-quality sources …
