In solid organ transplantation, especially renal transplantation, for the induction of immune tolerance, accumulating evidence has revealed that Regulatory B cells (Breg) play a crucial role in stimulating immune tolerance, alleviating immune responses, and improving graft survival. We describe the heterogeneous nature of Bregs, focusing on their defining surface markers and regulatory functions. Meanwhile, the major cytokine secretion function and the correlation between Breg and Treg or other immune checkpoints to balance the immune responses are addressed. Furthermore, we summarized the intrinsic and extrinsic pathways or costimulatory stimuli for the differentiation from naïve B cells. More importantly, we summarized the …

Integrating multi-omics data may help researchers understand the genetic underpinnings of complex traits and diseases. However, the best ways to integrate multi-omics data and use them to address pressing scientific questions remain a challenge. One important and topical problem is how to assess the aggregate effect of multiple genomic data types (e.g. genotypes and gene expression levels) on a phenotype, particularly while accommodating routine issues, such as having related subjects' data in analyses. In this paper, we extend an existing composite kernel machine regression model to integrate two multi-omics data types, while accommodating for general correlation structures amongst outcomes. The Significance Of Asthma In Dentistry, William J. Maloney Jan 2025

The Significance Of Asthma In Dentistry, William J. Maloney

Bulletin of the Ninth District Dental Association

Dentists and members of the dental staff must be aware of the many possible medical emergencies which may arise during dental treatment. Asthma is one such condition and, as such, all dental professionals must be familiar with its triggers, recognize the signs and symptoms of an asthma attack, know what to do when an asthma attack occurs, and be familiar with strategies to mitigate the likelihood and severity of an asthma attack. Dentists must also be aware that asthmatics have an increased incidence of dental erosion, caries, periodontal disease and decreased salivary flow.

The Open Apex Challenge: A Case Series, Joseph C. Stern D.D.S. Jan 2025

The Open Apex Challenge: A Case Series, Joseph C. Stern D.D.S.

The New York State Dental Journal

Aim: To describe different endodontic techniques for managing immature necrotic teeth. Managing immature necrotic teeth has always posed challenges because of the unpredictable nature of treating roots with wide open apices that lack an apical stop. Traditionally, treatment involved placement of long-term calcium hydroxide, which was often tedious and required multiple visits. Compliance was frequently an issue, especially since many patients in this category are children and as a result, many teeth were lost due to infection or fracture. Recently, with the introduction of more biocompatible materials, a shorter treatment approach has been advocated using calcium silicate materials, such as …

Intent classification models have made a significant progress in recent years. However, previous studies primarily focus on high-resource language datasets, which results in a gap for low-resource languages and for regions with high rates of illiteracy, where languages are more spoken than read or written. This is the case in Senegal, for example, where Wolof is spoken by around 90% of the population, while the national illiteracy rate remains at of 42%. Wolof is actually spoken by more than 10 million people in West African region. To address these limitations, we introduce the Wolof Banking Speech Intent Classification Dataset (WolBanking77), …

Gen Y More Black Corporate Directors, Chaz Brooks

Scholarly Articles in Law Reviews & Journals

Corporate diversity has been in the spotlight for decades. Recent efforts have followed years of legal scholarship, arguments on the business rationale for greater diversity, and more recently, the racial unrest during the summer of 2020. Called by some, a “racial reckoning,” the summer of 2020 catalyzed many corporate declarations on the importance of diversity, and more to the point of this article, the necessity of righting the economic disadvantages of Black Americans. This article looks specifically at one intervention by a corporate player following summer 2020, Nasdaq’s volley to increase corporate diversity through required disclosure. This article reviews the …

But For Borders: The Protection Gap For Internally Displaced Persons, Anita Sinha

Scholarly Articles in Law Reviews & Journals

Internal displacement, encapsulating the phenomenon of people who are dislocated from their homes but remain within the border of their countries of origin, was once a forced migratory occurrence interchangeable with cross-border migration. This changed after the Second World War with the promulgation of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees, which was premised on an insistence of making a legal line in the sand based on which side of a border displacement ultimately transpires. Internally displaced persons (IDPs)—in recent history, presently, and in the projected future—far outpace the number of people displaced outside the border of their …

Fintech And Techno-Solutionism, Hilary J. Allen Jan 2025

Fintech And Techno-Solutionism, Hilary J. Allen

Scholarly Articles in Law Reviews & Journals

Silicon Valley-style technological innovation is ill-suited to addressing complex problems like financial inclusion, concentrated market power, and privacy harms, yet promises abound that “fintech” can fix them. This oversimplified reduction of complex structural problems into technological puzzles is known as “techno-solutionism,” and it poses real dangers for public policy. When we start with the tech industry’s favored tools and then ask how to solve complex problems using those tools – rather than starting by defining the problem to be solved – it can distract policymakers from supporting real, structural solutions. Techno-solutionism can also deter policymakers from interrogating the limitations, and …

Iactor: Integrating Flow Theory And Habit Principles To Combat Decision Fatigue In Audition Management, Colby L. Bell

Graduate Thesis and Dissertation post-2024

For many actors, the audition process can feel like a never-ending series of decisions—what to prepare, what to wear, what to bring, and how to keep track of it all. Each choice, though seemingly small, accumulates into a form of cognitive overload that can lead to burnout and disengagement. My fascination lies not only with how actors navigate this process but how we might reframe it. This thesis explores the question: How can I design a digital space that reduces decision fatigue and restores agency to actors preparing for auditions? Drawing from Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s Flow Theory, James Clear’s Atomic Habits …

Sliding Through The Cracks: An Evaluation Of The Fba System And An Exploration Of Traditional Trombone Training Practices, Simon Jones

Graduate Thesis and Dissertation post-2024

My experience as a low brass player trained in an FBA (Florida Bandmasters Association) program was well rounded. I attended a school with a rich history of continued excellence, taking part in various honor bands and preparing standard trombone repertoire for the Solo and Ensemble evaluations. Despite all of this, fundamental aspects of my trombone playing were lacking when I arrived at college, remaining unrectified until I started my master’s degree at UCF. I was a committed trombone player, regularly practicing multiple hours every day during my formative years. In retrospect, I realize that my performances suffered in fundamental areas. …

Study Of The Superconducting And Normal States Properties Of Topological Nodal-Line Semimetals, Premadasage K. K. Kumarasinghe

Graduate Thesis and Dissertation post-2024

Topologically protected quantum computation is getting great interest due to its potential use in creating fault-tolerant quantum computers. Using quasiparticle excitations known as non-Abelian anyons, which obey non-Abelian braiding statistics, is the way to perform topological quantum computation. A topological superconductor has protected gapless states on its boundaries while maintaining a superconducting gap in the bulk, and predicted to host Majorana fermions which are non-Abelian anyons. Although several theoretical models propose systems with non-Abelian anyons, px + ipy wave superconductors in which vortices exhibit non-Abelian braiding statistics is one of the most realistic physical systems. Realizing physical systems …
