Legal education is failing its students. Those entering their first year of law school have greater anxiety and less developed reading and writing skills than ever before. The traditional large Socratic class, which was never the most effective teaching method, has become increasingly counterproductive.

This Article contends that small-group instruction provides the opportunity for superior teaching, especially for first-year law students. Recent scholarship in active learning, educational psychology, and students’ mental health demonstrates the limitations of the traditional large Socratic class experience. This Note examines the preventive care mandate under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the legal, political, and practical challenges that threaten its effectiveness. While the ACA significantly expanded access to no-cost preventive services, gaps remain—particularly in behavioral health, obesity management, and equitable service delivery. Ongoing litigation, potential administrative rollbacks, and shifting political leadership further destabilize this critical component of public health policy.

This Note argues that for the ACA to fulfill its original promise—and for any health framework to succeed—preventive care must be redefined as a comprehensive, early intervention approach grounded in both systemic access and patient education. It …

The Hawaiian Homes Commission Act of 1920 (HHCA) was enacted to restore Native Hawaiians to ancestral lands and promote long term economic self-sufficiency. More than a century later, that promise remains unfulfilled. This Note argues that a central but overlooked barrier lies in the HHCA’s mandated use of the replacement cost appraisal method, which systematically undervalues homestead properties by excluding market forces. In one of the most expensive housing markets in the United States, this approach suppresses home equity, the primary means of intergenerational wealth building, and restricts beneficiaries’ access to credit and financial stability. This Article examines the legal and humanitarian crisis facing Palestinian refugees who have fled to Egypt amidst the ongoing violence in Gaza. While escaping active conflict, these refugees face systemic barriers to employment and education, rendering their living conditions precarious and unsustainable. The unique legal status of Palestinian refugees stems from the fact that they have been excluded from the 1951 Refugee Convention and its 1967 Protocol, leaving them without any meaningful international protection. The Department of Defense’s (DoD) administration of the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) presents significant barriers to mental health care access for military spouses and children. This paper explores how the EFMP, though designed to support military families with special needs, inadvertently creates barriers to mental health treatment. Military family members often do not seek mental health treatment to avoid the program's mandatory enrollment requirements. Military family members often view enrollment in the program undesirable because enrollment can restrict the pool of potential future duty assignment locations that are available to service members.

This study explores to what extent Japanese as a Target Language (JTL, henceforth) learners use mixed-speech styles. "Mixed-speech styles" refers to the phenomenon that occurs when speakers shift speech styles during the course of an interaction. The three primary speech styles are (1) the desu/masu forms, which are generally considered formal speech-level markers, (2) the non-desu/masu forms, considered informal speech-level markers, and (3) the Chūto shūryō-gata, which I translate to unfinished utterances that do not contain a clear style-marker.

Introduction: Microaggressions, although often subtle and unintentional, have a significant impact. These actions emerge from stereotypes and can affect the recipient's sense of belonging. This study aimed to report the prevalence of perceived microaggressions among student physical therapists and to explore these experiences during their academic journey.

Review of literature: Microaggressions can disrupt the learning environment, hinder students' academic and professional development, and contribute to a culture perpetuating inequality and exclusion. To date, no studies have explored the impact of microaggressions on student physical therapists.

Subjects: Second- and third-year student physical therapists (n = 101) were invited to participate.

This qualitative study, grounded in the job demands-resources (JD-R) theory, explores the lived experiences of K-12 principals in suburban communities as they encounter vicarious trauma (VT). The study aims to fill a gap in the research by examining how these leaders deliberately employ strategies to replenish their emotional and somatic resources and develop resilience. Research from the past 10 years shows that plans are created, yet implementation is often lacking. Gene expression changes likely mediate the impact of Alzheimer's disease (AD) neuropathology on cognition, but there are challenges to resolve the proximal causal pathways from postmortem brain transcriptome profiles which lack temporal resolution and are further confounded by mixed pathologies. Here, we functionally dissect 30 AD-associated human brain gene co-expression modules using fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) models. Integrating longitudinal RNA-sequencing and behavioral phenotyping, we interrogated the consequences of amyloid beta (Aβ) plaques, tau neurofibrillary tangles, and aging, highlighting hundreds of conserved, differentially expressed genes. Over the past 15 years, genetic studies of psychiatric disorders have provided important insight into the contribution of both common variants of small effect, as well as rare exonic and copy number variants with large effect sizes. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) allow us to understand the intricate polygenicity characteristic of many psychiatric disorders. However, a considerable proportion of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) implicated in these disorders localize to the non-coding regions of the genome. Consciousness is a fundamental component of cognition1, but the degree to which higher-order pattern recognition relies on it remains disputed2,3. Here we demonstrate the persistence of oddball discrimination, semantic processing and online prediction in individuals under general-anaesthesia-induced loss of consciousness4,5. Using high-density Neuropixels microelectrodes6 to record both single-unit and local-field-potential neural activity in the human hippocampus while playing a series of tones to anaesthetized patients, we found that hippocampal neurons and local oscillations retained some detection of oddball tones. The M dwarfs are frequently orbited by low-mass stars and terrestrial planets, yet rarely by the brown dwarfs and Jovian planets between those mass regimes. The collective orbital architectures of those unusual substellar companions thus present a valuable opportunity to learn about those objects' formation, dynamical evolution, and original circumstellar environments. Accessing those parameter spaces, however, requires complementary observing techniques to truly map orbits and thoroughly assess the masses and mass ratios that occur. SR 12 c, a planetary mass companion in a ~1000 au orbit around its binary host, is one of only three planetary mass objects surrounded by an ALMA-detected circumplanetary disk (CPD). CPDs with different masses and orbits provide crucial laboratories to study substellar formation: the structure and mass of CPDs govern planet formation timescales and may distinguish between formation mechanisms, while dust composition and grain sizes ultimately affect atmospheric metallicity and satellites. CPD properties can also be compared against better-understood brown dwarf and low-mass star disks to test how disk properties scale with central object mass at the low-mass extreme. …

Real-Time Simulation Of Bio-Luminescent Light Propagation Using Compute Shaders Within Unreal Engine, Jaden D. Halevi

Presented in this paper is a GPU-native approach to interactive fluid simulation within Unreal Engine 5. The system, BioFluidSim, implements an incompressible Navier-Stokes solver using Unreal’s Niagara Grid2D compute shader pipeline, with a modular biological emission output stage parameterized from experimentally measured Lingulodinium polyedrum bioluminescence behavior. The system is evaluated against FluidNinja Live, a commercially available fragment shader fluid implementation, as a performance baseline. Beyond performance, BioFluidSim offers greater physical fidelity than the fragment shader baseline. Helmholtz–Hodge pressure projection enforces a divergence-free velocity field at runtime, a physical constraint approximated but not enforced by fragment shader approaches. The biological emission …
