Background: COVID-19 continues to pose a major global health challenge. Despite its geographic distance from Brazil’s major urban centers, Acre state has experienced notable outbreaks. This study assessed the detection and persistence of SARS-CoV-2 in the rural settlement of Santa Luzia, located in the remote municipality of Cruzeiro do Sul, Acre state, Brazil. Methods: In July 2022, a cross-sectional survey was conducted at 40 sites from an ongoing environmental study, selected by deforestation patterns and proximity to health posts. Three hours. That’s how long it took the state of Alabama to kill Joe Nathan James by lethal injection in 2022, setting a new record for the longest execution in United States history. James’s autopsy showed puncture wounds and bruising at the knuckles and wrists, indicating that executioners had tried (and failed) to insert an IV in those locations. It revealed puncture wounds in his musculature, nowhere near the anatomical vicinity of a vein. And it documented a deep, jagged incision that pathologists suspect occurred when James flinched as executioners were attempting to perform a “cutdown”— a surgical incision used …

Interrogating officers need only issue Miranda warnings in “custodial” settings, and a significant degree of psychological coercion makes a setting custodial. This Article asks a question at the heart of Miranda caselaw: Have courts applied Miranda’s custody trigger consistent with people’s real experiences of police questioning? If not, courts are allowing, and justifying, the admission of unwarned self-incriminating statements by deeming those interrogations “noncustodial” even when there is a significant element of compulsion. To compare courts’ custody decisions to civilians’ perceptions of coercion in interrogations, I surveyed laypeople across two studies using forty interrogation scenarios from jurisdictionally diverse cases spanning …

The Georgia RICO indictments against President Donald Trump, the Stop Cop City Protestors, and hip-hop entertainer Young Thug prompted debates regarding the proper scope of prosecutorial discretion and the legitimacy of the charges. This Article adds two critiques to the discourse.

First, it posits that the expansive scope of the Georgia RICO statute not only provides cover for prosecutors to legitimize their charging decisions, but it also permits other system actors, particularly legislators, to challenge the legitimacy of the prosecutions in which they disagree. The Copyright Claims Board (CCB), established under the Copyright Alternative in Small-Claims Enforcement Act of 2020, was intended to provide an accessible forum for resolving small-value copyright disputes, particularly for pro se parties. However, the CCB has failed to fulfill this promise, with nearly 90% of pro se claims being dismissed without resolution on the merits. The CCB's strict compliance requirements and failure to liberally construe pro se claims have created a system more burdensome than federal court, contrary to Congress' intent. This capstone project evaluated and improved the life enrichment program at Dominion Senior Living, an assisted living facility serving older adults, including those in memory care. Centered on the ACOTE focus area of program development, the project aimed to promote meaningful, accessible engagement through an occupational therapy lens.

Goals included assessing current activity effectiveness, identifying participation barriers, and developing evidence-based recommendations to improve variety, inclusivity, and therapeutic value. A needs assessment—using resident surveys, staff feedback, and structured observations—revealed low engagement among memory care and male residents, limited activity variety, and insufficient opportunities for meaningful social interaction. Studies on learner–learner and learner–instructor interaction provide insight into the preferences and perceived effects of interaction types. However, evidence of the impact on measured performance resulting from substituting learner–content interaction for learner–learner interaction is sparse. Using an experimental design, this study examined the impact of substituting interaction types on perception of workload, perception of learning, and measured performance in an online, asynchronous, undergraduate-level setting of formal distance education. Educational and psychological research often involves comparing motivation across groups. It is critical to ensure that observed differences in motivation are true variations by group, not due to measurement biases. With a diverse sample of undergraduate students (N = 2200), this study measured internal consistency and gathered validity evidence based on the internal structure of five motivation scales. To compare motivation for biology between groups of undergraduate students, this study tested for measurement scalar invariance by group and, accordingly, conducted latent factor mean comparisons to understand true group differences. This study used narrative inquiry and critical approaches to race to explore Black youth perceptions of public libraries and community-based programs. The study was conducted in Ontario with youth aged 13 to 24 and parents of youth. Data was drawn from semi-structured interviews with youth and parents and an arts-based qualitative tool. Libraries were identified as safe and welcoming community spaces. However, youth feel poorly represented and seek youth programs with a race-conscious and inclusive approach. Core recommendations include equitable approaches to representation, strengthening relationships with partner organizations, and addressing performative approaches to inclusion.

The rapid digitization of education and the complexity of scientific content demand the integration of digital citizenship in TPACK-based mobile learning for Biology. This study aimed to identify and prioritize relevant digital citizenship practices using a Design and Development Research approach. In Phase One, the Nominal Group Technique with 10 experts evaluated eight proposed practices. Phase Two employed Interpretive Structural Modeling with nine experts to structure hierarchical relationships. Seven practices were retained, with Ethical Use of Digital Resources as the top-level driver. The resulting framework supports ethical and discipline-specific mobile learning models, promoting responsible digital engagement in Biology education.

Background/Objectives: Time spent with parents and educators encompasses a large portion of a child’s waking hours, with the home and early childhood education and care serving as two of the first settings in which children develop social and cognitive abilities. While previous studies have used social and cognitive tests to examine antecedents of child behavior, we extend such studies to take into account the congruence and incongruence of parents’ and teachers’ views on those antecedents.
