This portfolio reflects the work I’ve done in my four years as a dual degree student, pursuing a Master of Science in Environmental Studies and a juris doctorate degree, and focuses on policies and laws surrounding natural resource management. It touches on how those policies relate to and expand or constrict the exercise of sovereignty by indigenous populations.

String rewriting systems are widely used computational models in theoretical computer science research such as artificial intelligence, software and hardware verification, and symbolic cryptographic protocol analysis. In this dissertation, we investigate two interesting problems concerning these systems, namely the common left multiplier problem and the SYMBOL-ORDER problem.

First, we consider the common left multiplier problem for forward-closed convergent string rewriting systems. The gold standard method of diagnosis of oral leukoplakia (OLK) is a tissue biopsy followed by histological examination. Raman spectroscopic studies of cytological brush biopsy and saliva samples have previously been shown to differentiate low (no and mild dysplasia) and high risk (moderate and severe dysplasia) OLKs, discriminant models of cellular samples achieving higher specificity, whereas those based on saliva samples achieved higher sensitivity. The current study combines the spectral data sets of cell and saliva samples in an attempt to improve the overall efficiency of the discriminating models. There are nearly 4,100 species of plant-parasitic nematodes that pose a serious threat toglobal food security, and it is estimated that about $100 billion of crops are damaged annually due to these plant parasitic nematodes. Also, animal-parasitic nematodes pose a major global health challenge, impacting approximately 3.5 billion individuals annually, particularly in tropical and developing areas. PDEs are significant determinants of cellular levels of cyclic nucleotides because the process of lowering active intracellular cyclic nucleotide second messengers (cAMP and cGMP) in cells is mediated through PDEs. Viscosity Stratified Turbulence: Insights From Direct Numerical Simulations, Quasilinear Reduction And Resolvent Analysis, Pulkit Kumar Dubey

This dissertation focuses on wall-bounded shear-driven turbulence with temperature-dependentviscosity. Direct numerical simulations and quasilinear reduction have been used to establish the asymmetric variation of turbulent statistics in the wall-normal direction. A comparison of energy spectra in the cold and hot halves of the channel reveals that large scale motions are amplified in the more viscous half while small scale motions are amplified in the less viscous half. Interestingly, the threshold wavenumber distinguishing these scales remains independent of stratification. This observation has been verified via a low-order reconstruction of the turbulent kinetic energy profile using resolvent analysis. Fourier modes that selectively …

This dissertation in practice addresses the problem of practice at the National Defense University (NDU) concerning workplace morale, with a focus on new employees (defined as those employed for two years or less). NDU, a unique professional military education institution with a diverse mix of military, civilian, and contractor personnel, sought strategies to improve employee acculturation and foster a more positive command climate. This study explores the impact of current orientation practices on new employees' sense of belonging and morale. This intrinsic case study delved into how NIRSA, a leading Association for Campus Recreation, and its members could effectively engage with one another to best support the members' needs.
